I remember how broken Shapeshifter was... a 7/7, wow...
At our group, the first Archetype was White-Blue Control. Weall had silly 200 card deck full of life gaining, walls and Castle. I remember a Flygia with a tonof counter on it.It was fun untill my buddy started to give flying to his Leviathan.
I still play Dune CCG. Anyone of you ever played that? Or even better still does?
OP Edited to include:
Overall Top 20, Participants and TURF.
On a personal note, I'd like to thank everyone who voted and engaged in the discussion on all the various cards through all the various groups. I know that the voting and the discussion opened my eyes to cards that were better than I thought, and some cards that weren't as hot as I thought. In the end, that was my main goal -- finding a way to qualify and quantify the strength of cards in the Cube. Basically putting a number to everything and giving everyone a general consensus of what cards are "can't miss".
Hopefully, we'll all find this thread stickied so we can reference it later on (and revise it every few months) and keep it as a tool for ourselves and to kindly point the new Cubers towards it for reference as well.

This is true. Although I think my buddy's suggestion of Azorius Guildmage just got justified. I'd also like to mention that I feel like an idiot for not having Simic Sky Swallower in our Cube.
All in all, I'm glad we did the exercise, there's some stuff I gotta take a look at, and it is true -- with few exceptions, most stuff outside the Top 5s are jank

I gotta say, this thread is amazing.
I voted only once, but you can't do everything.
This thread helps to see if your cube is on the right track. If you missing a few here and there, that's no problem, some cards get voted in with some people not voting on them, so there are different opinions on those cards, but most of what is in those top 20 lists, should be in your cube.
So thank you everyone who helped and especially to Silent Edge, who I think helped this a great deal.

I had found myself flipping a lot of cards in and out of my Cube, and it had gotten to the point that I couldn't understand why some cards that I considered good - weren't; and some cards that I'd never heard of were actually quite good. For the most part, I'm still relatively new to the format as a whole, and there really wasn't a "starting point", other than looking at other people's Cubes, to know what cards (in general) were the best for each color (I had the epiphany on the drive to work about ranking the cards, and basically putting a number to them to know which are generally better than others).
In looking at the recent references to the Power Rankings themselves, it seems that they've become the resource I hoped it would for people building Cubes from the ground up, or even people who just peruse the Rankings and see a single card ranked in the Top 5 that they never considered.
EDIT: I'll add in here that you may think a certain card is decent and typically skip it, but then it cracks the Top 10 in the Rankings, and you start going out of your way to draft it a bit earlier and it turns out to be a great card. I suppose it's also possible in the inverse -- a card you thought was great turns out to be "not-so-great" and you remove it from your Cube for a better card. Whatever improves the Cube right?
Again, I'm beyond elated that it's become as useful as it has. But, without being super-cliche', it wouldn't have at all been possible without all the members of this community who not only voted on each group, but also posted, posted and posted more providing a great discussion about a lot of different cards.

5 Feburary 2010:
Alright kids. It's time to revisit/revise/update the Official MTGS Cube Power Rankings. I think we'll see some changes here and there from newer cards, but also from cards we've learned to value more due to our last go-'round with the PR's.
This time around, when we vote for the Overall Top 20, we're going to keep that open to ALL cards in all colors/groups. This was a mistake I made last time, by limiting the voting to only cards that made the Top 10 in their respective group.
Also, when we get to Golds/Hybrids, the voting will be for the Top 5 in each Two-Color combination (UW, UR, etc).
First off, ALL voters are required to vote for 20 cards. Partially completed lists will not be accepted!
Point values will be assessed the same. 20 points for #1, 19 points for #2 all the way down to 1 point for #20. The card with the highest average (total points divided by number of voters) will occupy the #1 spot, and we'll move down the line accordingly. Cards that tie in point average will also tie in rank. Example: If two cards tie for 10th, they'll both occupy the 10th slot, with no 11th. The next card will be ranked 12th.
Votings opened on Monday afternoons will be closed on Thursday mornings (pending participation).
Votings opened on Thursday afternoons will be closed on Mondays mornings (pending participation).
When I say "pending participation", I really mean "I want at least 10 people voting on each round to ensure variety in views and votes". We had a strong showing last time around, I would expect at the very least, an equal amount of participation (hopefully better!).
An entirely new thread will be opened for the Voting & Discussion. Results and the discussion of the Results will remain separate.
I'll open it up here for any further suggestions as to how voting should go...
(I'll start the new thread once we've all kicked around some new ideas)
Welcome the big guy back too...I've spent a week trolling around, and it's good to have things back to normal!

Amazing... totally amazing. Silent Edge, I was JUST checking through the previous power rankings list and thought "hey, I should ask this guy if he's going to do a new one since this is one year old." Well, first I go to check and make sure you're still an active participant here before I pestered you... and you posted this just now!
I've been working on my cube for a while now, and I look forward to participating in the voting.
I'd like to suggest that for multi-color / hybrid, the voting be a straight top 10 per combination, not 5 of each. The reasoning being that you forcibly limit yourself on what you can have. If these are "power" rankings, meaning a fully powered cube, then there are two points to consider:
1. By going to 5 of each, you force yourself to use lesser quality cards. Yes, some might be just slightly lesser, but in some color combinations the pickings are so slim I don't like to have that sort of limitation.
2. If you're playing a power cube, then mana fixing should not a problem. Thus I see no reason to differentiate between cards that you can play if you're running just one of the colors or cards you have to splash a little extra mana for.
This is true. Although I think my buddy's suggestion of Azorius Guildmage just got justified. I'd also like to mention that I feel like an idiot for not having Simic Sky Swallower in our Cube.

@ Jester's Tear:
These are taken from just above our recent posts on Page 9. You can go take a look at the OP and how they got broken down. I want to run Top 5's on multis/hybrids for a couple of reasons, besides 6-10 being jank: 1.) Voters can vote faster and easier (With a Top 5, it's 50 fricken cards as is...making it Top 10 means 100 total cards. That's insanity) and 2.) Hard to find a Cube that runs 10 of each color combo (I personally run 4, I know some run upwards of 7 or 8 -- but the Top 5 still gives you a good feel). 5 is the "sweet spot" as far as all factors go.
And your theory is the exact opposite. If you got up to 10 cards, then you have to find lackluster cards to fill slots 8-10 most times. The Top 5 is the cream of the crop, and typically are ALL near "auto-include" status.
And in general, the main reason for the Power Rankings works in two ways:
1.) For the experienced as well as the uninitiated, it helps define and clarify what cards should be drafted at P1P1 (and obviously P2P1, etc). This takes into account a card's power level, castability, splashability and dynamics in use (Aggro, Combo, Control...or all 3!).
2.) It also helps all of us discover and discuss cards as they relate to the actual construction of our Cubes. I discovered a great many cards during the process that were NOT in my Cube...and I adjusted accordingly.
This time around, we're including cards from M10, Zendikar and Worldwake -- as well as taking into account cards that were affected by the M10 rule changes. I'm excited!

I was looking at 10 each because of cube size. Right now my cube is just a pack short of supporting 13, and I want to get it to 16. In that case, I figure I could go to 10 of each color combination and not get hurt TOO bad... the exception being Blue / Red, which I hate.
Looking forward to the voting!
