I'm designing my first cube (720 cards) and I want to make sure that I don't have to many or to few creatures at each CMC. For each color I'm thinking of going with..
I expect you'll struggle to find 9 blue 1cmc creatures worth cubing with for example.
I've had trouble finding more than oneU one-drop creature to cube with.
I think the rough numbers wtwlf posted look decent, but just keep in mind that a good deal will change color to color, and that within a given CMC and color, you can support different strategies. Consider R one-drops. At 375, I run 8. Five of them are strictly aggro-type cards, whereas Grim Lavamancer and Greater Gargadon go into a variety of decks. Then Goblin Welder is sort of its own archetype.

I can't say I'm pleased to see you and must warn you I may have to do something about it.

For a while I tried aggressively to curve, but the unintended effect was that the games dragged on too long as there wasn't enough "game ending" finishers, such as Eldrazi or similar. After having tilted the ratio slightly higher for the timmy cards the cube experience has definitely improved. My cube is powered, though, so that can help power out these high CMC finishers.
1 CMC: 9
2 CMC: 12
3 CMC: 12
4 CMC: 12
5 CMC: 9
6+ CMC: 6
I remember reading an article that discussed it a while back but I can't find the article again. Does that seem about right to everyone?
Thanks in advance!
