I've been looking to build a cube my self but after looking on here I've noticed almost all cubes are built highlander style, is there any specific reason? Or is it just how people wanna play with so many variants? Imo there's so many cards that playing 1 of is hard to swallow or unhealthy lol...so I guess I'm asking why & if I was to build a 4 of cube or maybe more of would it be as fun or playable?
There are plenty of people who do non-highlander style cubes.
And you're right, there are so many cards that it is tougher to find spots for them all, so much so that I would have a bigger issue cutting cards for multiple versions of a single one. That's just what cube has always been to me and I think I speak for many others as well, a highlander draft format of all the most powerful cards.
But hey, any cubing is good cubing. If you built a 4-of cube, it would probably still be fun, but it would just be a different experience than what many people are talking about here, sort of like how a pauper cube is much different than a powered cube and etc.
I know multi-card cubes are much more popular at Rip Tide Labs, and they can certainly do a much better job helping you create a cube and have more discussion on what works in those cubes than people here. Feel free to stay and chat, but if you're looking for a multi cube I imagine it'll be tougher to find as many people with experience in that type of format than over at Rip Tide. http://riptidelab.com/forum/
Highlander style makes it harder to encounter the same scenario multiple times. I like it because I get to have super crazy stories that last for years. I played cubes with multiples of cards, and it was still a blast, but the variety you get from highlander is something special.
I prefer singleton, since it makes the drafts more unique from one another and I think it adds fun and flavor to the format. But a lot of people play cubes that run multiples, and they have a good time with those too.
If I run multiple, I know I won't be able to stop myself from replacing majority of my cube burn with lightning Bolt and so forth. But that's just me. You can draw your line if you decide to do it.
