I recently built a slightly modified version of Adam Styborski's Pauper Cube
The experience of opening a Rare in each pack, deciding whether to pass it or not, and the signals you get when you are passed one, that's just missing when all the cards are commons, and it bothers me a little.
Then I had the idea of making a ~48-card pool of non-commons (mostly Uncommons for power reasons, but I don't really care) and seed one of them randomly into each pack to simulate that one above average card per pack when drafting.
I'm missing a U card (thought about Delver of Secrets, it's a common but I'll need a checklist card for the draft anyway, so it won't get lost in there with the rest).
Also missing a R card.
Has anyone tried something similar to this? Do you think it'll work, or just kill the wonderful balance this cube has? Any feedback on the list?
For me part of the point of cube is that I'm often not railroaded into a first pick. Are you sure that putting an obvious first pick in every pack is really the draft environment you want?
Edit: Also, some of your potential inclusions are way out sync with each other in terms of power level. Consider one person opening Ajani's Pridemate and another person opening Channel or Flametongue Kavu.
Edit 2: By the way, welcome to the forum! I didn't notice your post count and join date earlier.
Hey, thanks for the input, and the welcoming.
Took out Pridemate because white doesn't gain much life in the cube really, and channel was too OP for a Pauper Cube, definitely.
Edit: I also enjoy not having an obvious first pick, I am considering this an optional expansion for when we want more of a booster draft-like experience.
