I'm planning on buying a cube soon, but the problem is I don't have a playgroup. I do know some people who play, but we're not close, and I'm not sure how much they would like to go out of their way to play. Is there any other way of meeting people who like to play? I recently moved so I haven't been able to check out my LGS yet.
Checking your LGS would be a good place to start. Do you play constructed formats? Perhaps play in a tournament or two and get to know a few people, ask if they'd be interested in Cubing and so forth.
I'd also check facebook to see if there's any magic groups around you; I'm personally in three groups so it's easier to find people that way too.
Well, it can never hurt to ask the people you kinda know if they're interested. That's the biggest thing, just talk to people.
As for me, I'm building mine right now because my brothers have a bunch of friends who are new to the game but have little drafting experience, and almost no cards compared to me since I've been playing before most of them were born.
Ask your friends that are already interested if they have any friends that they can vouch for. I wouldn't recommend inviting just anyone. If you have even just a couple of people in your group, people walking by will see and become interested. I get a couple of people each night that walk by and see something that catches their eye. The usual question I get in that case is, " Is that a real ....". People will see cards that they may not have ever seen in person, or something that they never got a chance to play with. Just keep doing drafts in your local shop, and people will come to you.
Honestly, I kinda lucked out as I was having a Hellrider of a time getting cube drafts happening at all, then I randomly found a stable group (of 4 + me) and we were able to morph it into a cube week.
I have found that doing it consistently at a store is able to help, since people can sometimes be weird about cubing in a non-store environment and it can depend on how the people at a LGS (one that I had tried for years to get consistent cubing ended up being a lost cause, unfortunately.)
My playgroup is just getting into it, but everyone in interested, so I lucked out in that respect. I haven't really had to go "find" anyone. If you just moved to Northern VA/Southern MD shoot me a PM.
I have a lower-value cube (Modern Masters set cube) that I take out to LGS's to see if anyone's up. I bring ~3 friends so at least we can draft if we can't get anyone else. Ask around and then if they play and enjoy, I invite them to come to my house on the weekends for playing with the $$$$$ cube. Works alright.
Although I do wish there were a better broadcast sort of system that I can post that I'm going to cube on X day at Y location and have people sign up, etc.

The GameCube, a 500 cube with a medium power level and a focus on fun and fringe playables rather than immediately shutting your opponent down with the best cards ever printed.
Modem Masters, a 500 cube that tries to capture the essence of a Modern Masters set draft. 3 of each common, 2 of each uncommon, 1 of each rare, few mythics. Includes minor changes for balance reasons to give certain archetypes the tools they need to succeed.
I Cube at least once a week, 6 players usually. It helped that my LGS is a draft-exclusive store, so it was easy for me to convince my playgroup to draft Cube. I also have a Facebook group dedicated to my Cube, which I use to gauge if people would be interested in extra Cubing sessions during the week, as well as getting feedback on card choices and future additions/cuts.

That's a really cool idea. Would you mind sharing a link to your cube's FB page (by PM if you prefer) so I can see some of the ways you've used it?

I used to write cube articles on StarCityGames, now for GatheringMagic and podcast about cube (w/Antknee42.)
