Cubing seems really interesting and fun, so I would like to get into it!
My cube experience is 0 and my drafting experience isn't very high either.
Some background info about my current playgroup:
We usually play FFA multiplayer games and EDH. We are with a max of 7 players in our playgroup, but usually play with around 3-5.
Most of the decks in the playgroup are from 3 of the players (including myself) in the playgroup (also the players who play the most) the other players use decks created by those 3 players, they have little to no experience with deck building. But drafting does interest them.
I plan to build a fairly low powered cube, given that most high powered cards are in the pre-constructed decks. Now I was wondering what would be a good starting cube for players who don't have much drafting experience and for some who have little experience with deck building.
I was thinking of a tribal cube so that even if a player has little experience with drafting/building they can simply aim for a mono/duo color tribal theme and most likely do alright. Is this a good idea, or is another theme (or perhaps no theme) easier to draft/build from for new builders?
How many cards should my cube be or does it not matter much? I've read that 360 cards is a minimum for 8 player draft, considering we're with 7 max I'll aim for something like 360-400, is that alright or too much?
What exactly do you do with leftover cards in a cube while drafting? Do you keep drafting until all cards are gone or until every player has drafted 45 cards?
How do you prepare a cube for drafting? Obviously I'll need to make several packs people can draft from - like booster packs - but how do I prepare these packs.
- Do I randomly pick cards and put them in a pack?
- Do I make sure that colors are about evenly divided amongst each pack?
- Do I make sure that there aren't packs with all rares?

Talk with your playgroup and see if there's a particular theme they'd be most interested in playing, and center the cube construction around that idea.

360 would be fine for your group.

Leftover cards are just leftovers. It's okay if the whole thing doesn't get drafted. You'll see them in a future draft. Each player will draft 45 cards, just like regular drafting.

Shuffle the whole thing together and make random 15 card packs. No need to seed them or anything.
