Making a Winston Stack of 90 cards. I want to get the input and suggestions from as many as I can. Insights and what not.
A few restraints I am using for construction:
90 Cards
15 of each color
15 colorless
No lands included in the stack
As few Flying creatures as possible (I feel that if we include flyers that you have to put more space wasting removal in)
There must be a card in each color for each CMC from 1 to 6 where there is only one colored mana in the cost. Ex: R, 1R, 2R, 5R, etc..This is to allow people to be able to go into other colors easily
I prefer cards that have extra uses i.e. Level up, Kicker costs, Flashback
I also prefer to have cards that do a little more unique things than normal. Take that as you will
The card base is anything from the Modern format to include its ban list
Not looking for "Un Fun" cards or combos
* Not looking for really powerful cards, just a good fun stack that will be fun to draft and play. Also, think BUDGET when giving suggestions, thanks
Anything beyond this is up for discussion and I value all constructive feedback
Never thought of a "Winston Stack" before, now I want to make my own!
I think level-up cards are perfect for this, because they can grow as the game needs them to and offer many different ways for games to play out (Level up or just keep developing the board). One for each color: Student of Warfare, Enclave Cryptologist, Guul Draz Assassin, Joraga Treespeaker, Kargan Dragonlord.
The GameCube, a 500 cube with a medium power level and a focus on fun and fringe playables rather than immediately shutting your opponent down with the best cards ever printed.
Modem Masters, a 500 cube that tries to capture the essence of a Modern Masters set draft. 3 of each common, 2 of each uncommon, 1 of each rare, few mythics. Includes minor changes for balance reasons to give certain archetypes the tools they need to succeed.
I'd look at Eidolon's cube comparison project for the most commonly used 360 cube cards, and use the 25% of that list you like the most for each color /CMC section.
I think you should reconsider not including lands in the stack. Pain Lands and "Check Lands" are both pretty inexpensive and can do a lot to help a deck's mana base.
Nice, I like this idea! I've thrown together a 155 card "micro-cube" that I almost exclusively pull 90 from for winston. It is nice having a bit larger stack in case we wanna mix it up with a grid draft or something, also to add a bit of variance to the winston drafts. If you get enchanting something like War priest of Thune would be good. Also some bestow cards can be nifty for being good at multiple parts of the game. Mogis's Warhound and Gnarled Scarhide work well in aggressive decks on the curve as a creature, or can be used later to buff up some creatures, or even bestowed onto an opponent's card to disrupt their plan by forcing attacks/taking away blocks. Talk about multiple uses, eh?
I second this, it will open up decks to being able to more reliably set up splashing a color. Even a simple artifact like Prophetic Prism could be helpful and has some added value of drawing a card. I look forward to what you end up adding to this list!

Edit: Nevermind, I misread your rules

More importantly, there are cheap lands that improve manabases like Terramorphic Expanse/Evolving Wilds.
