So, been out of the loop for the better part of a year.
Want to resleeve the cube with sleeves that are matte on the front and back. It seems my option are Legion Double Matte, KMC hyperMatte Premium and Ultra Pro Matte.
First off the list is ultra pro, super flimsy and thin, no thank you.
Then it is between the kmc and the legion ones. I have had the old kmc hyper matte (premium and regular) and those hold up very well. It seems their quality has gone down (at least for the regular hyper mattes). My main question is if this quality drop affects the kmc hypermatte premiums too? If it does, then, are the legion double mattes better?
A last resource would be matte inner sleeves if anyone offers those and dragon shield mattes (I have found no matte inner sleeves and doubt there is a market for those)...
Up for suggestions (but some brands might be pretty hard to find where I live)
If you can find them, Ultra Pro Eclipse sleeves are a brand new product that rival the quality of Dragon Shield Mattes and the old formula KMC hyper mattes. I know it sounds weird because UP is normally awful for sleeves but they did it right this time, even removing the little silver circle on the front of all their sleeves. They come in a variety of colors and are matte on both sides.
I'm thinking about double-sleeving the whole cube in some sort of perfect fits that I'll have to look into and Ultra Pro Eclipses. I'm single-sleeved in Ultra Pro Mattes right now and while that was fine when I was building the cube up, now that there's serious value in there and we're drafting more, I'm getting split sleeves on the reg. I've also got two drafters who sometimes play with us who are just murder on sleeves even after being reminded not to treat my cards like a Bicycle deck. ****'s sake, I can't stand that *****. All the more reason to shell out $100 and double sleeve the whole shebang.

Yeah. I've got a 450 card cube with around 200 lands and tokens. It's all single sleeved now, but I want to double sleeve and get a new box over the summer. Hard to say how much space I'll need. Any help?

Well... one pack of inner sleeves is roughly 1/2 inch or 12mm. Give or take an eyeball. Each pack is 100 sleeves.
So 650 cards is 6.5 inner sleeve packs or 3 1/4 inch. So if you intend to use the same brand of outer sleeves, just add 3 1/4 inch to your stack to get a ballpark figure.
Of coursen YMMV, exact measurements would necessitate stuffing the cards in sleeves or the use of calipers to factor in different brands than what I have, air trapped in the sleeves, the alignment of the moon and what Maro ate for breakfast four days ago.
Edit: my calculations assume standard inners. If you use the foldable sealable sleeves then I guess it's anywhere from.... 50% to.... maybe 150% more over pack thickness? I don't use the sealable inners for MtG but I use them for other cards and it's a big jump due to how they're folded.

My single sleeved 360 card cube with around 200 lands and tokens need a 1000 card cardboard box. My 600 card Conspiracy Cube is double sleeved and fits in a Holiday gift box and still has some space. So I guess, you need something in between that. Maybe a 1500 card cardboard box, if such a thing exists?
Well, off to the LGS to grab some Matte Yellow Dragon Shields to sleeve the cube up in, the old Ultra Pros are basically all split at this point. Last draft, I had a Stasis Snare fall right out of its sleeve because the bottom had a split just as severe as the opening. I guess that's what 50+ 8-person drafts do to sleeves. On a side note, what's everyone's opinion on sleeve color for a cube? I've heard two things, one being that nobody cares, and the other being that black or white is the way to go and everything else is "unprofessional", for lack of a better word. Where do you stand?
I'm like 15 drafts and a lot of sealed deck into my cube with Ultra Pros and I have to replace 20 or so after each draft now. Part of that is that I've got some insane shufflers in my group, and part of it is that the regular Ultra Pro Mattes are awful sleeves.
I just ordered a new cube box so I'll have space to double sleeve. KMC Perfect Fit inners, and I'm pretty sure I'll use the new Ultra Pro Eclipse outers. They just announced that they're adding black, but before that I was prepared to go with dark red. I prefer black so that the borders blend into the sleeves. A very clean look. In general, I prefer darker sleeve colors, and in general, will take black over anything else.

If so, I have either been extremely lucky with mine or the quality has dropped recently. I bought a bunch around 6 years ago, mostly used in EDH. Hundreds - if not thousands of games - combined with idle shuffling whenever a deck happens to be nearby as I attempt to do schoolwork, and I have barely had to replace few individual copies. My Zur deck hasn't had a torn sleeve to date. This being EDH with fetchlands and tutors and whatnot, these decks also get shuffled a lot each game. Genuinely less than 20 total.
I would chalk this down to shuffling. FWIW, I shuffle with the cards aligned - bottom of the card in the closed end of the sleeve and pushing closed end to the side of the deck - and do not rifle shuffle. This much should be common sense, as rifle shuffling damages cards even when they are sleeved and trying to stick the open end of sleeves against each other roughly equates to sleeve genocide.

Based on my history with Ultra Pro Mattes, regular and otherwise, I would attribute more of the impact to the insane shufflers than the sleeves. Replacing 20 sleeves per draft is ludicrous, regardless of sleeve quality.

Yeah if I was replacing 20 sleeves per draft, I'd be having a group chat with my drafters about not manhandling the cards lol

I've had that chat before. It was a victory once people stopped riffle shuffling. But I've got some pretty violent mashers, including one guy who's so bad about it that he doesn't draft anymore. Of course, he also calls players homophobic slurs when he loses, so giving him the boot was a pretty easy and satisfying call.

If you can't shuffle in a way that doesn't end up breaking 20 sleeves a *draft*, then you're not trying. I used to draft with some players who would riffle shuffle, but once they understood I was letting them play with *my* cards vs it being like a draft where it was their cards, they understood about changing it up a bit.
I've been using Dragon Shields double sleeved with KMC perfect fits, and its great. We can mash shuffle, and sleeves very rarely break. However, its been an issue nearly every time we draft, that during the shuffle pre-draft, cards get placed upside down. I want to try to fix this by resleeving with sleeves where the backs have a different colored top and bottom. But all the Dragon Shields and KMCs I've seen seem to have mono-colored backs. Anyone know of some high quality sleeves that either have some sort of design on the back or just one solid color on one half of the sleeve, and a different color on the other half?
I would love to use something like this, but I've used ultra pros in my constructed decks in the past, and my experience tells me these will break far too often.
Does anyone have any suggestions for clear sleeves? I hope to get my hands on Black Eclipse sleeves to double sleeve my cube in. I'd like to put the double sided tokens for the cube in some clear sleeves. I know Dragon Shield makes both normal and Matte versions of clear, any idea how good these are? Also how obscuring is the "back" of the matte sleeves?
Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
remove, the top shelf, it works awesome. I have a 360 cube in mine, as well as many edh decks and 60 card decks. also 30 of each land all in sleeves
Also, this talk about riffle shuffling... seriously I have some of the cheapest sleeves known to man and my cards have been fine.
Do you mind putting a pic up with your cards in that box? It's a great price, I just want an idea of what cards would look like in it if you don't mind!

What are you using to hold these packs together? Did you make these things yourself?

It's nothing special I just dyed strips of elastic with sticky velcro. I plan on going with thin leather straps (almost shoelace like) that will tie on next time or thinner pieces of elastic.
Well, if you don't have it filled like I do, you will of course have things moving around. but that's why made my own dividers as well. The cards, dice, and everything stay put pretty damn well. That top part pretty much ensures that nothing is moving around. Remember it was suppose to be an art case, so I'm guessing it was made to not allow glass paint bottles, brushes, plastic bottles pencils and so on to get jostled.
