In desperate need of a new home.
I use Black DS Sleeves (wish I would have gotten the Matte) and KMC PF for the cards and UltraPro Red Matte for Tokens. I honestly am thinking about switching back to Ultra Pro for the cards, I never had any issue with them at all, but so many people recommended against them I made the switch and re-sleeved in Dragon Shield, assuming I just didn't know what I was missing. I regret this decision.
Good LGS will allow you to have a feel of sample sleeves. Make sure you get a good feel. Some shops have ready-made decks using those sleeves, so if you could, ask them to let you shuffle for a bit.
There's no reason to turn down a potential customer for a bit of shuffling.
UltraPro makes their own inner sleeves. That's what I went with.
Despite the higher rate of splits/tears with UltraPros I still prefer them to any other sleeves, and because they are thinner and lighter than KMC or Drangon Shield they seem to shuffle better/more easily. Plus they seem to have few issues with size consistancy.
I will say I haven't had any split on me either. But I have heard it as a common complaint on this thread. Plus, I have a buddy who seems to shuffle pretty violently because he splits one literally every time we cube, though never to the point of damaging cards thankfully. I have told him to use a bit softer touch with these (Ultrapros). He is used to the heavier Dragonshields which, admittedly, do require a bit more force. I find the Dragonshields' edges stick a bit when shuffling, another count against them in my book.
Ultra pros are really hit or miss. I've had decks sleeved with them for years and have had no issues and had bought packs of the exact same and had them not last a week. Their quality control seems pretty sub par. Recently I've been double sleeving using kmc hyper mats and perfect fits, and don't plan on going back. I like the thick and rigid feel that double sleeving creates, and between that and the texture i find shuffling aggressively to be easier. I'm slowly resleeving all of my decks this way. The only downside I've found is that it costs a bit more to do this.

My Ultra Pros are falling apart after less than a year, so I'm about to re-sleeve my cube with KMC Hypermats + Perfect Fits. One question, though, is it worth the bother of double sleeving the basics?

I've not played with double sleeved cards in a while, but I think it is. The double sleeve adds just a bit of thickness to each card, so it makes knowing which card is a basic in your deck that much easier. Double sleeving is a pain, but I think it's worth it in the long run.
^ That as well. I don't know for sure because I've never had a deck only partially double sleeved, but i would think that because shuffling sleeved and double sleeved decks are slightly different, the chances of damaging cards might go up.

Yes it matters. You need to be uniformed. If you double-sleeve one, you have to double-sleeve all. Otherwise, you'll get uneven shuffling and weird draws.
Also it's interesting to note that foils and non-foils also have the same issue. There's the tendency to draw either all foil or all non-foil. This is also why foils are not allowed in Limited GP day 2 and beyond. Ditto limited drafts in PT. Pros also tend to avoid this foil/non-foil problem. There's usually no in-between.
Yeah i always thought that was the case. I always proxy a deck and play it for a bit to see if i like it before buying the cards, so I'll have sleeved lands with small cut out proxys, and whatever actual cards i own at the time, and I've noticed that no matter how much i shuffle, the actual cards typically clump together.

I lost it at, "WHAT'S IN THE BOX?!" I won't be buying it for my Cube, but I think I'll be buying it as storage for another game which never leave my house. I think I'd miss having a carrying handle too much. Very cool product to put out, though.
We've known about this for a while now I think. It'd be a cool storage solution for your cube if it stayed in the same spot pretty much constantly. It's not ideal if you need to travel with it at all, though.
So last year around August I got enough sleeves (~800) of KMC Hyper Matte Greens to sleeve up my 450 cube + lands and since then I've gone through probably two 80 card packs replacing split sleeves. The hyper mattes have been hands down the best sleeves I've used but, unlike my dragon shields which never split, these things peel like a banana. Did I just get unlucky and get an awful batch? I may go back to Dragon Shields again, even though they get dirty and nasty quick.
Also, no matter what sleeves I use, I always end up getting grime and gunk on the face of the sleeves that either I have to use rubbing alcohol to clean or replace entirely. I cube once a week, with 6-8 people, and draft 2-3 times in a session. Maybe I'm getting greater mileage than the rest of you? Or I have a playgroup of unusually sweaty handed nerds?
Do you just have to completely re-sleeve your cube every 6 months?
It depends on the mileage these sleeves go through. If you have to, I absolutely think you need to give a short lecture on how to shuffle properly to your cube mates. Offer them a sanitized tissue before drafting.
So far, I don't have a problem shuffling up hypermattes. Even riffling is a breeze.
One advice I wanna give is that different colors give different feels. I would wager that different colors have different durability. It's not entirely concrete, but I've tried Ultra pro sleeves with different colors. They're totally different. What I'm suggesting is that certain colors may last longer than others.
For one, I use KMC Hypermatte Red. Perhaps you wanna give red a go.
I don't recommend re-sleeving every 6 months unless it's a complete overhaul. Just replace the errant ones. Perhaps if you want extra care, do the bulk of the shuffling on your own before splitting them into packs. That's what I do. I pre-pack for my mates.

Yep, with perfect fits it feels sturdier, more rigid (rather than flimpsy). I think most importantly it's the texture at the back.
