I picked up some really cheap KMC matte in blue...a switch from my usual black. Forgot that I had been stockpiling KMC matte in black so I could just replace as needed. Now i need to wear out these blues and switch back. Sometimes I do things that make sense and then totally negate them by being stupid.
I double sleeve with the tight fits, too. I've never noticed any sort of wear to my cards at all using this method; even foils stay completely scratch free. Mind you, I cube every single day and have had my cube at many a drunken Magic night--salsa included.

Oh! Actually: Has anyone found a good place to buy the Deck Builder's Toolkit Boxes? 25$ seems like a lot for half a cube box to me, but they're so nice.
Troll and Toad has random fat pack boxes, but I couldn't find a lot for these. Fat Pack boxes are okay, but I don't like that they don't stay firmly shut.

Might be a little bit too cutesy, but Starcity has animated creature box things. They're about 5 bucks or so. They seem pretty nice and I think I'm going to get two of the penguin one for cube/land storage.
Picked up my Cube Vault a few days ago, the builder is a personal friend and he made a very small amount of custom cubes with special coloring, love mine looks black and green, just so happens those are my favorite colors to run
Spekkio, where did you get your custom case made? My cube is worth quite a bit, and I am getting it insured along with a custom case. I looked for rook products but those are hard to find. Any custom place better than another?
I prefer my Hyper Mattes to the Mattes that I previously had. That being said, I still really liked those. Either way is good to go, but I do suggest the Hyper Matte slightly more. The corners on them hold up better and don't get that weird crease in them.
i bought an old typewriter case from a salvage shop, gutted it, made posterboard dividers and floor/ceiling (so the cards don't shift when it's turned on its side) and fitted the interior with fabric. it holds my 720 cube, 300 basics, and has 2 extra bins for dice, extra sleeves, edh decks, etc. i like being able to carry it with the handle to only have to use one hand. the latch locks and i have the key, but it's finnicky and i need to get that looked at. the other nice thing about it is the hinges are held in place when the box is closed, but with the lid open you can slide the cover off and put it off to the side, which makes it easier for everyone to grab basics out during deckbuilding. the only pic i have is my cubetutor cube picture, so anyone can click on my cubetutor link to view. looks like i need to post a few times before i can share a link (i'm new here) but it's cube 7124 if you're interested in the picture.
my cards are double sleeved in kmc perfect fits and brown dragon shields. i use ultra pros for all my edh decks and have never broken a sleeve. but after i bought 800 ultra pros ad sleeved up the cube, my friends were splitting sleeves left and right. so i'd say even if you are a careful shuffler and have never had issues with a certain type of sleeve, you might want to take a look at the ham-fisted dummies you cube with to make sure all your cards stay safe.
any feedback on KMC matte browns? I'd get hyper mattes but they don't have any colors I want (my preference is for non-MTG colors so that theres no "bias" in the cube). general consensus on hyper mattes vs regular KMC mattes? my cube is currently sleeved up with dragonshields, which if anyone is wondering, have been unbelievably durable and work just great - i'm just a little unhappy with sleeve bending, and gunking/scratching up of the sleeves.
I don't have a cube per se, but I do have ~800 cards in my EDH box double sleeved in Ultra Pro Pro-fits and KMC matte blacks. I can personally attest to the KMC's. Having switched from Dragonshields to KMCs specifically for the reasons you mentioned (the gunking especially), I couldn't be happier with them.
I contacted the owner at CubeVault.com and as I live nearby I went up today and met him, personally, to have a box customized. He's just an awesome, awesome guy and really made a fantastic box. I couldn't be happier with it - it should last a lifetime.
How often do you guys replace your Perfect Fits, if at all?
I've only replaced my perfect fits ONCE, but i did the entire collection - there were getting slightly cloudy after ~ 7 years of use, so I spent 60 bucks bulk buying and replaced every single one, with a few packs to spare. If you don't do too much card swapping, and you have good outer sleeves, you shouldn't have to do it much. ATM I've got perfect fits with KMC hyper mattes, and after 6 months of 3x a week use I haven't so much as seen a scuff.
For reference, below is my current daily haul
EDH on the left, 60 card casual on the right, and commanders/dice/spare sleeves in the empty slot, and trade stuff up top. I'm actually redoing the color tagging on top (currently only the mono-green has the new system going.
When I cube, I pull out the 60 card stacks and slide in two plastic inserts I made that hold the cube.
EDIT: So the case was from a hardware store, ~$15 bucks, i ripped the liner out and re-lined it, then added the plexi window to hold back my trade stuff. I ALSO put in a GPS tracker (Just an old android handset with a REALLLLY extended battery) for a neat find-my-case if it ever gets stolen.
Hey guys, I'm putting the finishing touches on my first cube and I'm looking at about 550 cards double-sleeved which includes the Cube, basic lands, and tokens. I was looking at a few wooden boxes online and I wasn't sure of how long I'd need it to be to hold that many cards. Any suggestions?
I need new sleeves for my cube and was thinking about the new KMC hyper mat. I saw a review video on youtube which was very positive about the sleeves.
Do you have any experience with the hyper mat? How are they compared to KMC mat and KMC super?
I'm not a fan of KMC Supers; they're okay to begin with but as soon as they get the slightest bit of moisture on them they start to stick together, making shuffling an absolute nightmare. KMC Hyper Mattes, on the other hand, are really good; they're all I use these days, for EDH, Standard, and my Cube. I highly recommend the Hyper Mattes.
One sad complaint about my cube vault: the springs on the latches are real small and fragile. The right hand latch can't open anymore on mine, as the spring has warped beyond bending back into place
Email cubevault@gmail.com and we will see about getting that fixed for you.
I might. It's slightly complicated by the fact that I'm his lone canadian customer, so if his kickstarter shipping was any indication, this is looking like a $300+ fix to get it to him
It's not a bad idea.. I imagine you have a limited window of time before the perps dump the case, but worth a shot.
It was super easy. I took my old android handset, loaded it up with security and remote control software, and attached it to a biiiiig battery (should last a few days running on it). The case is HUGE, so this is more of an "oh ***** where did it go" than anything else. Though, I do plan on getting a far sturdier case built in the future - better locks, steel sides, ect. So then it'll be a fully functional security suite for my cards

I got a three column personalised winebox from GettingPersonal.co.uk. It's thirty quid including postage and arrives within a few days.
I've attached a couple of photos. The second photo shows the box open. The first column fits the cube, sleeved, and the box of spare sleeves and cards that I rotate in and out of the cube, or cards I've got waiting to test. The middle column has post it notes as life pads, pens, dice, tokens and spin downs. The third column is five Dragonshield boxes, each of contain 50 sleeved basic lands. They fit like a glove.
I'm very happy with the purchase!
How many sleeved cards (with perfect fits or not) will one of the columns fit?

Dayum! Those are sweet. Can't believe I missed those. Does anyone know if he plans on making more?
They are for sale here. I really wanted get one from the kickstarter but the only backing options available to Canada were really expensive.
