FWIW, if you have a cube and it's not proxied, it's almost certainly worth enough to get insured. Whether that's renter's insurance or something else is something I don't fully know, but usually there's a deductible and most cubes vault past that.
Luckily he already got it back. Those people just sold it to his LGS.
Incredible, no? I don't know whether to be more astounded that the thieves just walked to the nearest LGS and dropped it... or that the LGS went "wow, an entire freaking cube still in its box... yah, sure, we'll take it".

Truth. I need to do that with mine. I've photographed it, but not insured it yet.

Especially since if Antknee goes there regularly, it could be argued that they not only accepted but bought stolen goods...but, I don't know all the details, so that's the furthest I'll speculate.
After graduating for 6 months, I can finally land a job! I think I'll be active again pretty soon, if any old members would remember me. Anyways, cheers guys.
I signed up for it, but I'm ready to be disappointed. It sucks because I would totally pay a monthly fee for all-you-can-draft or whatever, but because of the 'free to play' model I'm afraid it will be unaffordable to consistently use the software to draft. These things usually end up playing out that free to play = losing is free, and I hope that's not the case here.
I signed up for it as well. I've not yet been one of the chosen ones, though.
I've disagreed with the MTGO model of trying duplicate IRL game play since the get go. I guess that's because they are literally digital objects and not physical cards. I can justify to myself paying twenty bucks for a playset of cards I can hold in my hand, but it's hard for me to justify that online. Also, the value is so different. I play a lot of pauper (because it's cheap and fun) and it's so frustrating to me for the treasure chest only commons that are pennies IRL to be 10+ each online. I just can't understand having a short "print run" when these are literally digital objects. There's no need for a print run to exist.
I recently downloaded and played through the initial free to play campaign on Eternal. It was really fun and I hope MTG Arena follows a similar format. It was nice that after I played through a few matches in Eternal, I started earning points that I could redeem for singles and packs. There's also an easy one click option to trade in all of your cards that are in excess of four for points. When you're in the store you have points to spend and if you want to add a certain card or cards to your deck, you have the option to buy them with your earned points or to just flat out add points to your account with a credit card. It's a neat model that I wish MTGO followed and I hope Arena follows.
MTG Arena has been fun enough so far. You get given 70 boosters to start and none of the deckbuilding restrictions of DotP. The new systems for priority etc seems to work well but I keep messing it up from years of playing DotP. The battlefield looks decent and everything is laid out well, although some animations are a bit cheesy.
Grinding coins could get annoying; You get 50 for a win plus the usual Daily Challenges and 2 packs costs you 1000g. I am slightly disappointed they are bringing "Gems" into the game though and I might be vocal about this point in there Beta feedback forums. Like you said Salmo, I would much rather pay a flat monthly fee and deal with that than feel like wizards are being shady and getting into the gems/gold style of online service. Drafting is my main concern with this; you don't seem to get awarded packs so (unless you win pack in draft) you will need 2000 coins to draft (1000 for 2 packs twice), it feels like a bit of a ploy to get people to crack and buy gems as you are going to find yourself at 2 packs a lot and either have to grind the 1000 coins for another draft or pay for gems. It could become a "have and have nots" economy where those who sink a bunch of money into it have the better decks (somewhat like real magic I guess).
Instead of Gems I would just like the option to purchase a complete Ixalan playset, it's not like they have an economy to balance since cards cannot be traded. I would be much happier drop 20 pounds every few months for the new set if they are upfront and honest about it, but I will make it my goal never to spend a penny on gems for packs.
Gameplay is smooth and whilst I have had some connectivity issues. I'm getting my ass wupped, but a good part of that is me not knowing Ixalan too well so I'm not too frustrated at it. I wouldn't mind a chat,it would be fun to be able to exchange a few words with my opponents but that might be playing with fire given the current climate within the MTG community.
Anyone know if you can get duplicates from packs? I was pretty sure I had a playset of a card but I opened it a booster, it didn't seem like you can convert excess copies into gold.
I am Groglord on it if anyone wants to add me and play a few games.

This is my major issue. I would pay a monthly fee and keep no cards if the fee was reasonable, and I would draft more/sets I don't like if it wasn't ~$2.5-$4 per pack (buying from vendors is almost always cheaper), but when you're opening packs of Iconic masters and you can't even break even on a single pack with most of the rares then something is wrong.

Dude, yes. I'd gladly pay the fee each month and draft my face off. I love limited formats, but I don't play much limited on MTGO because the price point and value often just aren't there. What little bit I have drafted have been because I somehow ended up with play points to burn or just felt rich that day for some reason. They've also done some promotional freebie releases. I think M15 had a free sealed release event offered to everyone.

I did the same one, if they did that more that would be another thing too but they don't! It's the best way to get better as a player, like bar-none by far the best resource in that regard, but that's the only real draw for me now that xmage is/has existed.
Well guys, it finally happened. I cubed with somebody I didn't know and I got burned. The damage was a Steam Vents and a foil Thoughtseize I got from my first pack of Magic ever. Could have been worse, but this really stings if I'm honest. As soon as they open, I'm putting out the word about this guy to my local game stores. Even if I don't get my cards back (let's be honest, there's no way that's happening) at least I might be able to prevent it from happening to somebody else.
Remember: Stay vigilant, have fun, and practice safe cubing.
Wow, they went through the trouble to swap out commons instead of just snatching sleeve and all? He was dedicated to the scum. Sorry that happened, man. Hopefully there's some consequences for him.
That's so *****ty. I've heard enough horror stories that at this point I'll pretty much never cube with anyone I or someone I wholly trust don't know personally.
Makes me wonder if the thing was premeditated.
Maybe he didn't wake up that morning and think 'I'm going to steal some cube cards', but there's definitely some thought and intent to deceive when you choose *****ty commons that look the same at the most passing of passing glances.
I feel like you'd probably figure out that you're missing cards sooner if the culprit replaces them with junk commons instead of just jacking the sleeve and everything. There's just so many cards and unless you're regularly laying out your cube and 'auditing' it, it'd probably take several drafts before you realized you hadn't seen Thoughtseize go around in a while.
I got borded and bought into old school on MTGO. I'm having a blast playing Ernham Djinn and Serra Angels. Once you get power the format becomes really cheap. I've been buy playsets of every card legal in the format. Buying a playset of fallen empires cost me $12.

Old School does look super fun. I actually thought about buying into it but the whole "once you get power" part is what keeps me out. Although cheaper on MTGO, I just can't justify paying that many actual dollars for so few digital cards. It makes me wish I had put more effort into drafting Vintage Masters.
My playset of Savannahs cost about $3. Birds of Paradise were less that a quarter each. I think I have a dime invested in my Serra and Ernham Djinns. Library of Alexandria can be had for the price of a can of coke. If you ever want I would be more than willing to play powerless old school magic with you on modo. And even then, power isn't super bad besides lotus. Walk, Recall, and Twister can be bought for $4, $7, and $3 respectively.
