The very first draft of my cube my playgroup asked me to remove Armageddon, Balance and Sundering Titan. It's just not something some groups/people are into. (I personally don't mind, but it's more important to me that the people playing the cube get an experience they enjoy.)
We're all new to cube, since mine is the first one we're playing with any regularity, but these are Modern and EDH players who tend to be okay with anything. This one guy just drafted a not-very-good deck and ran into two buzzsaws that happened to have LD in common.
I am going to take out Pillage, Molten Rain, and Mwonvuli Acid-Moss, though. That'll cut down the number of cards that blow up lands by a bit. I think I'll also hold off on adding Strip Mine for a while.
Cards like Balance and especially Armageddon seem pretty important to me. Some casual EDH players will cry anytime anyone blows up a land, but most of the regulars in my group like casting sweet cards like these.

I can't say I'm pleased to see you and must warn you I may have to do something about it.

Yeah I don't think any of those single-target LD spells need to be in at 360 anyway. There are just more interesting options whether you find LD fun or not. Regardless, have fun! That's the point of this format and I love it to death.
Especially the red ones were just taking away valuable space. They rarely saw play, but when they did, they usually weren't much fun to play against.
While I definitely can see the unfunness of LD, I do keep my two Wildfires and my two Armageddons. The former are essential for one of my favorite archetypes and the latter are very important for white aggro decks.
I like LD cause sometimes there are lands you need to destroy on top of the additional resource denying. IMO getting Maze of Ith locked is just as much a feel-bad as getting your lands destroyed. You either rock nearly all feel-bads or none.
The only feel-bad card that I truly exempt for feeling bad is Time Vault. It's a narrow card that fits in only one deck, and then if you want to make them prove they can kill you it takes forever and is the least amount of fun that really either side can be having. At least with other combos you can usually set it off and go infinite; sometimes with Time Vault you need to sludge through it and having a two-person goldfish session is the worst.
If your group is new to cubing in general, I might keep LD limited for awhile. Getting Armageddon'ed one too many times could turn them off to cube before they get accustomed enough with cube to where they understand how to play against it. Once they're hooked though, it is really important to have ways to deal with problematic lands, especially now that the manland cycle is complete.
On the topic of LD, I had been looking to replace Strip Mine in my cube with Wasteland (for balance reasons) for the longest time and just yesterday at the prerelease they happened to have a gold bordered one sitting out on the counter in a sorting pile that I noticed while trading in random prerelease junk. Didn't manage to get any of the new EMN cards I was after, but I was thrilled to not go home empty handed.
Hey everyone, I apologize in advance for the derail. I've thoroughly enjoyed being part of the cube community (mostly over the Pauper/Peasant subforum), and I wanted to let you all know of a charity event that I'm running next month.
A close friend of mine and fellow Magic enthusiast passed away last year, and next month we're running a memorial Magic event to celebrate his life. I doubt any of you knew him personally, but if you happen to find yourself in the area and want to attend, or just want to contribute in some way, I would greatly appreciate it. I'm certainly not expecting anything. Thanks in advance.
Thanks Salmo, really appreciate it! If you (or anyone else) is interested in attending, please let me know by filling out this Google Form, so that I can get an idea of how many people to expect.
I'm also sorry for your loss. I love the connection to Child's Play though. We had a loss in the family a couple years ago and did a Child's Play drive in her honor as well.
I can't make it, but if you let me know what set(s) you end up playing with I would be happy to donate some product to honor Steven's life and support Child's Play.
Thanks, DSF. I really appreciate that. We're doing SOI/EMN sealed for the event. Any sort of contribution would be greatly appreciated. Feel free to PM me if you want any more information, or you can contact me through the Facebook event.
Hi everyone, not sure if this is the right forum for questions like this, but I was just wondering: is there anybody currently cubing in Beijing? Who's maybe looking for another player? My wife & I will be moving there in like a month and it would be nice to keep the good times rolling. I haven't actually decided whether to take my own cube or put it in storage. (I probably will tho, it's my baby.)
I can't tell you much specific to the Beijing Magic scene, but as an expat playing in South Korea I absolutely recommend bringing your cube (and a favorite deck or 2 if you play other formats) and a trade binder with you. A quick look at the Wizards Store Locator shows over 20 shops that sell Magic cards in Beijing, and their Magic scene is big enough that they've hosted Grand Prixs so there's bound to be a strong Magic scene. Showing up at some FNM drafts with a trade binder is bound to help you meet locals and expats with a common interest, which is fantastic when you're a stranger in a strange land. Expat Magic players in Asia are a niche within a niche, so if the Magic scene in Beijing is anything like the one in the Seoul area expat players will be really happy to see you show up and you will make friends. You may also be one of the only people in your area that owns a cube, so if you talk up your cube you're bound to have some takers. If you like pimping out your cube with foreign cards, it'll be a bonanza for you.
Also, if you ever come across the Yellow Sea to the Seoul area, PM me. I'd be happy to show you and your wife the sights and if you're in town on a Sunday night I'll make sure our group in Suwon does a cube draft for you to join.

Ha nice. I actually have those two decks still sitting in a deckbox. Extended Psychatog and UG Madness. I think I might have pilfered the painlands from them a while back though.
Does anyone else struggle with this site getting constantly redirected to stupid sites? It's really frustrating, especially on mobile. Anyone know of a fix for safari?

Yes. It kept happening to me on my Android using Chrome. I switched to Ad Block Browser and that seems to have helped some. I have still gotten redirected a couple of times, but nothing like I did before. I'm actually surprised that Curse doesn't have an app for looking at their forums.
