They're really hitting this Smash Brothers out of the park. I'm not a current fan of Xenoblade but I'm interested. While I love Nintendo, sometimes I feel like they're so distant from their fans: They mean well but some of their choices could be so much better for everyone. I think they're coming around a bit more in the recent year than they have since the N64.

So far I'm almost excited enough about the new SSB that I won't regret losing Brawl Minus.
Almost.
That mod is wonderful.

Rest in RIP My Signature, I guess. 2015-2016, we hardly knew ye.
Total side note but I like how people are discussing running this over itself.
Well, it has to be said that Kolaghan is clearly better than Kolaghan. Considering what BR decks usually want and how stiff the competition in this guild is, there is no way that I would run Kolaghan over Kolaghan! Kolaghan might make it in as the sixth guild card or so. Kolaghan on the other hand ranks several places below that.
It was so funny to me when they described this as a downgrade to the original Zurgo during the Pax East panel. I was thinking if this is a downgrade, they should really "downgrade" all legendary creatures. Haha.
My deck designing is quite concise at this point:
1. Come up with deck idea
2. Realize this idea is somehow fundamentally similar to another deck I have or that is commonly played in my group
3. Decide I don't want to disassemble one of my existing decks
4. Give up and do nothing
I don't see the point of this new shroud mechanic. It's strictly worse than Hexproof. Threshold is pretty bad too, Delirium is a much better mechanic and probably easier to activate.
Otherwise this card is a pretty neat guy. Dodges removal and grows into a Primal Huntbeast. 3/5
Man, this forum gets more unusable on mobile phone by the day. An archery forum I frequent (on vBulletin) takes an average of 10-20 seconds to load up each page on my S3. MTGS? As of this week, FIVE MINUTES! :/
Yeah, it's pretty terrible. And good luck bringing up issues to anyone in charge around here. I very much get a "deal with it" vibe over there. My posting has dropped drastically since the change and I feel like the number of posts in general here in the cube forum have dropped as well. Oh, well. I guess the good news is that the amount of data I use on my phone has dropped considerably.

So there's this weird thing with the new forum architecture where you post and then other new posts appear BEFORE your post, but only like ten minutes later. Makes it really easy to miss other users' helpful content sometimes. I can no longer assume I've read everything up to my own previous post and have to go back and check that other stuff hasn't sneaked in...
I was aware that many websites (like blip, The Escapist or Channel Fireball) use some Facebook social plugin for their comments. Which means that I couldn't comment on those sites, but at least I could read the comments that others wrote. It was a good way to see what others thought of a movie or video game review. Being able to read other people's comments is one of the main points of having a comment section at the bottom of a video or article. Well, it seems that Facebook changed how that comment plugin works and I can now no longer read those comments! Apparently you now need to be logged into Facebook just to read those comments on non-Facebook sites. Which means that you have to have a Facebook account just to access a very common and basic function on supposedly unrelated websites! WTF!!
Edit: Comments are accessible again. I wonder if they got enough backlash to change it or if this was just a temporary issue from the start. Still, not being able to see comment sections all over the web because Facebook said so / screwed up sucks, no matter which one of the two possibilities applies. Plus, the issue of not being able to comment on non-Facebook sites without a Facebook account still stands.
Ugh, that new Gotham show is really really bad. A pity, i was so looking forward to it.
Sad thing is, there is A LOT wrong with the show, so it's going to be hard to fix.
They are taking some creative liberties but all in all I've been enjoying it, and it's sort of funny to see all those 'origin stories' coming together. I hope time does not prove me wrong, though.
FWIW, I've enjoyed the first two episodes of Gotham way more than the first half season I watched of Agents of SHIELD. I'll agree that there have been some cheese, and I'll also add that I'm not a huge fan of the casting despite enjoying both Ben McKenzie and Donal Logue in other shows. I've not been bored nor really disappointed so far, though. However, I don't expect it to hold a candle to Arrow or even Flash.
So I'm heading off to Calgary tomorrow to hang out in the fiance's hometown. Any of our Canadian residents here know of any sweet Magic shops in the area?

I saw the name and thought "Oh, someone ported over the MTGO cube, neat." and I couldn't have been more wrong. I might download it just for the experience of flipping a table with pieces of power setting on it.

Been playing some Vintage as of late. This recent quote from R&D is a little troublesome:
"We don’t put a lot of time and effort into testing those older formats...we have the banned list as a ‘catch-all’ for any problems that may arise."
-Aaron Forsythe
In response to wtwlf: did you expect any different? I have had the inkling that Legacy and Vintage have been the last thing on their minds for years now.

I actually am excited over that Aaron Forsythe comment, as cube is my favorite format and I hardly play constructed... so the more broken cards the better.
It's quite funny that Jeskai Ascendancy pairs so well with Treasure Cruise. It's not quite Batterskull + Stoneforge but it isn't far off.
re: No older format testing; I wouldn't expect them to do much testing there. The focus on new sets has been limited and Standard for a long while now. And I kind of agree with Aaron. If they miss some whacky combo or interaction between a new card and a card from 15 years ago, that's what they have the ban list for.

I really want to see Interstellar. I love McConaughey and Nolan, so it's gotta be win/win. From the trailers I've seen, I don't think it looks as good as Inception, but I might be wrong. Then again, Inception was amazing.
I didn't expect them to do extensive playtesting, but saying that they can simply ban cards that are mistakes so why bother balancing cards ...seems bad.
I don't think it seems bad, but it does come off a bit lazy. Then again, Magic has quite a history, so I understand if they can't devote time to testing every possible scenario with every new card printed. Banning something that got past them is just easier than attempting any old format testing, extensive or not.

I understand that it's easier. Doesn't mean it's better that way. I mean, at least some considerations should be made for how cards will impact non-Standard formats, right? Saying "Oh well, if it's too good we'll just ban it" doesn't seem like a good alternative to creating balanced cards.
I was at an aquatic pet (fish, corals, shrimp, etc.) conference this weekend and I just kept thinking about how cool a cube conference would be. Someday when I'm rich, I'm going to do it.
