I might go one higher someday, so I'm kinda holding onto the next best gold card in most guilds. In Orzhov I'm holding onto more than that because there are different cards for different archetypes. I've got new Sorin, Desolation Angel, Gerard's Verdict, and Unburial Rites all on stand-by.
I've recently moved the Soltari Bros out of my on deck box. The WW cost is too steep nowadays considering what else we have available, so I can't see these guys coming back into my cube. On a somewhat similar note, I've also taken out River and Mire Boa as they've been outclassed by other aggressive 2-drops that I don't even currently run so I can't see these guys coming back in ever.
My on deck box consists of:
stuff that was in my cube but has since been removed but still sees regular play in cubes slightly bigger than mine
stuff with abilities/effects that I may still want in the future (ie. discard outlets, sac outlets, artifact/enchantment removal, Phantom Centaur, Icy Manipulator, Memory Jar, etc)
pet cards. Angelic Destiny has been sitting on deck pretty much since it was released. I also keep a Serra Advocate (7th foil) which was in my original cube for sentimental reasons :P.
My on-deck binder is literally all the cards that used to be in my Cube or that I have picked up in anticipation of including in a Cube someday (this is mainly because of the foil factor; I'll pick things up when I have the opportunity just in case I want it later). I will also put copies that have been upgraded in there as well (e.g., nice foreign foil replaces an English foil, so English foil goes into on-deck binder in case I build another Cube). I was actually going to photograph or video my on deck binder, but don't know if people would be interested in that or not.
I have three different boxes as my "on deck binder":
Box 1 contains cards that were recently cut from my cube and could go easily back in at any time. Plus, archetype packages that have a good chance to come back in once support for another archetype gets cut. Examples are the Kiki/Twin packages and the Mono/Heavy-Black package.
Box 2 contains cards that were cut a while ago and haven't come back in so far as well as cards that never were in the cube but are interesting and strong enough that they may be included at one point.
Box 3 contains cards that were cut a long time ago and that have a very slim chance of ever going back in. Cards in this box that are actually worth something are sold or traded away. Cards that are needed for other decks also leave the box. Still, once or twice a year, a card from this box goes back into the cube and gets another chance to shine.
@Antknee: I would love it if videoing your Cube On Deck binder became a thing people did. Pics would also be interesting. I really enjoyed the recent episode of Cubism where the guys sat down with a friend and went through his binder and just talked about some of the cards and why they're in the binder instead of the cube.
Quick question on Archetypes... if you're aiming for an archetype cube with one for each guild color combination, what amount of cards do you set aside for each archetype? Or, do you just put in the enablers and let the archetypes develop organically? I'm trying to make a 450 two-color archetype cube, and right now I'm assigning 10 cards per color for each archetype (20 cards total for that archetype) with the remaining cards of each color as flexible cards any deck could use. What do you guys do?
Wow, storm is fun. A lot of players in my playgroup have been asking for me to incorporate storm into my cube, so for black friday, I did some bargain shopping and went ahead and added it in. I know there's a lot of cons against cubing with it, but so far I really, really like it. Some of the decks I've seen are pretty sweet.
I think Storm can certainly be a fun archetype when it comes together. The problem is how often the deck doesn't come together and in those instances you end up with dead cards in the draft that could better serve other decks if they were more versatile cards. If your group likes it, though, and it comes together often enough, then more power to you guys. Rule number one in cube is do what makes your group happy.

Yeah, I also tried to make most of the cards I added for storm support also support other archetypes, so it's worked out quite well from testing.
Drafted a super sweet esper tokens deck today. Notables included:
My cube currently have "special packs" in which people can trade their entire packs picks for up to that amount of singles with the same color. I get this idea from another friend of mind and incorporated it. It allows me to play narrow strategies like Infect/Storm without having to sacrifice spots in my cube for it. I don't always play with these packs. In fact, I rarely do. But sometimes my playgroup just really want to play storm and having those packs are nice alternative.
It's been months since we had a full 8-man draft and we finally had one last night and something funny happened... there wasn't enough cards left for Booster Tutor so we ended up digging into the on deck box! Vampire Hexmage, Bone Shredder and a vivid land were the really notable tutors (my friend had an interesting decision to make with the Shredder b/c there was also an Into the Roil in the same pack). It was really fun to see the on deck box being put to use and I'll be trimming some of the excess cards so we can use it more effectively in the future.
We had one game where a player resolved a Booster Tutor and elected to buy a real booster instead of using excess cube, he cracks a pack of AVR and pulls Griselbrand

Rest in RIP My Signature, I guess. 2015-2016, we hardly knew ye.
Total side note but I like how people are discussing running this over itself.
Well, it has to be said that Kolaghan is clearly better than Kolaghan. Considering what BR decks usually want and how stiff the competition in this guild is, there is no way that I would run Kolaghan over Kolaghan! Kolaghan might make it in as the sixth guild card or so. Kolaghan on the other hand ranks several places below that.
It was so funny to me when they described this as a downgrade to the original Zurgo during the Pax East panel. I was thinking if this is a downgrade, they should really "downgrade" all legendary creatures. Haha.
My deck designing is quite concise at this point:
1. Come up with deck idea
2. Realize this idea is somehow fundamentally similar to another deck I have or that is commonly played in my group
3. Decide I don't want to disassemble one of my existing decks
4. Give up and do nothing
I don't see the point of this new shroud mechanic. It's strictly worse than Hexproof. Threshold is pretty bad too, Delirium is a much better mechanic and probably easier to activate.
Otherwise this card is a pretty neat guy. Dodges removal and grows into a Primal Huntbeast. 3/5

I recently added booster tutor to the cube and am having a ton of fun with the additional pack cards. I really want to try out Stocking Tiger, but "Draw" 15 seems pretty strong.
Honestly Stocking Tiger is pretty bad. If he hits you probably are far enough ahead to not need the extra cards, and a lot of what he gets you will be uncastable.

Could Wildfire fit into a deck like this, do you think?
I don't really think so. Recurring Nightmare is a mana-hungry card and I like to have some ramp to hardcast at least some of the fatties I want to sneak in, which could be a non-bo with Wildfire.
The Holiday Cube is back on MTGO. I'm on vacation from work this week and the wife is working today, so the majority of my day will be spent clicking virtual Magic cards. I'm making this post mostly to get opinions on buthurt-ness of the degenerate things made available in this cube. Note that I am a proponent of powered cubes and providing degenerate tools to your players. My group and I love seeing ramp into a turn three fatty and the subsequent "Ooooh" and "Aahhh" the comes along with it. Also note that cubing at my kitchen table is absolutely free and usually littered with pizza, beers, Doritos, and good times among friends.
Now, despite being a proponent of power and unfair cards (Moat, Mind Twist, etc) in cube, I am mostly a fair deck player. So far today I've entered two events. In the first event of the day I drafted a GW ramp deck with access to a few mana dorks, Winter Orb, both 'geddons, Plow Under, and four planeswalkers only to lose in round one to Storm. I'll add that in both games I was ahead on board and likely to win either the next turn or the turn after. In the second event I lost round one again, this time to a turn three Necromancy on a Griselbrand in game one and a turn three Myr Battlesphere from artifact ramp in game two.
My question to you guys is how much this bothers you in a real life game of Magic vs how much it bothers you on MTGO. For me, I feel as if my amount of tilt is nearly doubled when cubing on MTGO simply because these events are not usually "free". It really sucks to spend money (tix) to enter an event and then spend 30 minutes drafting and building only to get eliminated after only six turns of playing. If this were to happen IRL and my opponent combos me out on the first few turns in both games of the match, it's easy to shuffle up and play another for fun - if for nothing else, but to see if he can do it again. It's also easy to just move on to the next match or watch another match going on. On MTGO these things can't be done with our cube decks. I really enjoyed the Legacy Cube on MTGO, but I'm thinking that's because it was mostly battles of the fair decks and games were won and lost, for the most part, in combat. I'm the type of player that wants to pit my WW deck against your Rock deck. I have little to no desire play against you if your deck can just straight do something completely unfair on turn two most of the time. That's not fun for me at all, especially if I had to pay money for the chance to do so.
Anyway, this is mostly a result of noticing how tilted I got during these matches and I was just curious as to how you guys react to these sorts of things, either in real life games or on MTGO.
I feel a little differently. While it isn't fun to get destroyed so early, I haven't found that to be the case. Maybe the competition is less stiff in the swiss tournaments but you get a ton of games out of it and so far only a few have been blow outs. I had a guy dump a tun 4 Emrakul and then followed it up with Kozilek via Through the Breach that ended me quickly but he died in game two to a turn four Ravages of War and then he couldn't get his artifacts out quick enough in game three due to Thalia on my side. Broken things happen but they can happen on both sides of the table and it only happens a small percentage of the time. I wouldn't worry about it as much and just have fun.
Also, I have been doing fairly well in the swiss rooms and its been paying for itself. If you are doing the single elimination tournaments and getting beat early, I would say that is a waste of money.
I didn't mention that I only play in the Swiss events for just this reason. Still, though... that doesn't take away much from the sting that is getting beat three turns into the game and having to wait nearly an hour for the next match to start.

They are pretty much my thoughts exactly. Ridiculously busted cards feel fine in normal cubes, for the reason you said. I got beaten by someone casting a turn one Hero of Bladehold in my cube (off a Mox Diamond and Mana Crypt). We just laughed and shuffled up again. It can feel slightly more stink to lose to Channel + Ulamog (or whatever) in an online match if you are paying for the experience.
