100% old-school Hyppie! That Player Rewards Promo is really cheap, so there is an easy way to get a black border version of it. And it is even foil, if you like that kind of thing.
I go either way with the lands. My rare cube is currently all matching Zendikar full arts. We're working on going with different options other than the ZEN lands, but that's a slow process. My peasant cube has all different arts. I just went with old border arts that I liked. I really like what wtwlf has done and went with all the different promo land sets throughout Magic's history. That's a pretty cool set. So the answer to that age old question, is that there is no definitive answer. There are a lot of awesome basic lands out there.
I see the appeal of both, but cube is a singleton environment, and different land arts adds to that feel of having each card be unique. Cube is also a format that gets to showcase cards from throughout the history of the game, and cards with old/new/promo borders ...having different land arts contributes to that feel as well.
I am working towards having at least one foil land from every set in the cube. There are so many basic lands arts I really like that I have to find space for! I'm on board with wtwlf here, I like the singleton nature of basic lands. The contrast of different environments is nice to see and remind about the rich history of different settings. For example, the Temur Mountains and Islands are really different and beautiful.
I go with all different art from different sets for my basic lands. There is too much beautiful art on lands to just pick one. Also, I am running Symbol Status so that is a factor as well.
Although I find aesthetically pleasing to play with matching basics, I also enjoy having the basics serve as a "Living Museum" for Magic history. That, and Symbol Status is a very good Cube card as well.
I have matching lands in my Cube, and as I work on my new set of lands (foil ZEN Avons) I want them to be matching because I love looking at them. Same thing with my Odyssey Plains #333s...beautiful.
I have matching lands right now. I could see using the various lands from a single set, but I don't know if I could do singleton. I want the focus on the non-land cards in the cube. That's just my personal preference, though, and I wouldn't think twice about it if I played a friend's cube with singleton lands.

Old-art, no question. Get an Alpha/Beta if you can, but if you can't, the promo is nice, and very cheap.
