I love the old ice age arts. But then again, I'm a sucker for classic MTG art. Especially Phil Foglio's Sulfurous Springs. Back when MTG had a sense of humor and fun.
I typically (though not always) prefer original arts to the newer stuff.
Yeah I think pack foil as well, followed by FNM. Usually I actually like promos more, especially with the FNM watermark, but in this case it's just a classic.
I don't think there's a bad option for Geist, so it's just personal preference. I really like the WMCQ version because I just like the art more, but I currently have an original pack foil, so I can't justify the update while I have other cards that still need to be foiled. If I were ranking them based on art, I'd say WMCQ > Innistrad > Duel Deck.
Just this last week I got a hold of WMCQ version of Geist to replace my orignal non foil, much better artwork in my opinion.
For me, it was about 3 months ago. I like the art better as well, but as Calibretto stated, Geist has good options.
I don't know the exact statistics, but when in doubt with collectibles of almost any sort, original printings (in this case foiled) generally outweigh anything else. It's nice to buck a trend though once and awhile and hear from those people who do like alternatives.
I recently traded a couple of Goblin Guide for a judge foil Damnation. It's not a pack foil, but without having to spend money, it's a close as I was going to get and the art is the same as my non foil damnation (I don't put textless art in the cube) due to not wanting to explain cards to new players. (despite the fact that some textless cards have great art, Damnation is not one of them IMO
Definitely pack foil Geist. The Duel deck one is ridiculous, and though it's debatable which of the original art and the WMCQ promo art is better, you can't debate the big ugly star.
Currently right now as i'm slowly building my cube i told myself if the foil is more than $40 then i'm getting a non-foil plus an alter. Although i'm still split on getting it full altered or full foil instead of a mix of both
I like having a mix of foils and alters, but a nice alter seems to have more of a "wow" factor with the people I play with because they're a lot less common.

I only have a couple of (good) alters in my cube currently, but I think my preference is a mixture of both as well. I'd say the same when comparing alternate arts vs full art extensions as well. I love my Klug altered Thrun (as Yoda), but I wouldn't want a majority of my cards to have all new arts on them.
The FNM Promo foil does have the original Mark Poole art, albeit with a modern frame. I think the 7th Edition Counterspell is the best looking option for an old frame foil, and 7th Edition foils are black bordered.
I run the Collector's Edition version. In an opaque sleeve it looks like a Beta Counterspell but it only costs about $4.

Alright, it's EMA spoiler season so time to wake this sleepy thread up.
In addition to the already known new arts for FoW and Wasteland, a few more Cube cards have gotten new arts in EMA.
I'm pretty sure nobody is going to be replacing their Dazes with this version, unless you need a cheap foil.
Chrome Mox already has a couple of ok options, but now you have the option of completely Volkan Baga-ing out all of your Moxen, which I think is pretty cool.
This might actually be my favorite iteration of Bloodbraid Elf. The first one looked weird, the second one felt a bit too glamor shot for an elf barbarian, this one is super Swanland-y but I like how savage the atmosphere is.
For those of you running Necropotence, you'll soon be able to get a version with the FTV art but without the FTV foiling.
I typically (though not always) prefer original arts to the newer stuff.
