Thanks all. I guess I fall into the old border category. It looks clean and simple and when the cards are dead mint, IMO they look beautifu
I really love the look of old black cards with the "dirty yellow" color in the card text.
As much as I typically prefer old border, I don't think even an old border judge promo Tarmogoyf would push out my Future Sight version. I love that FS frame. Plus they'd probably use the worse newer Modern Masters art.
Buy a box promo vs. Booster foil version Ruinous Path?
Neither one looks amazing in foil. I'm leaning slightly towards the BaB promo because of the cool mana watermark it has in the text box. Curious what you guys think.
The set art is WAY better, and it looks great in foil!
That's interesting, neither of them stood out in my opinion. The booster foil was too much grey on grey while the BaB promo is too dark. Just my thoughts though, thanks for your input.
I think it depends on the playgroup. I prefer not to use textless cards just in case I have guest players that might be unfamiliar with certain cards, even classic staples like Wrath.
Funny, $400 for a Beta must have slipped my mind just starting out Admittedly, I would likely be happy with a 10th Edition foil as I really like the art. We currently have the revised edition and everyone in the group can't stand the art, most hate the white border as well. The promo foil seems ok but not great
While we're on the Wrath of God topic, which one would you pick (non-foil), 7th or 10th edition, I can't decide if old frame / white boarder is better than new frame / black boarder.
Portal Wrath of God I can understand, but uggggh, really on the Quinton Hoover art.... Is it nostalgia for you old timers? 10th edition art feels far more appropriate, the others are so cartoonish, even the Portal one.
What part of drawing mana from your plains to cast a spell called "Wrath of God" to send all your opponent's devils and goblins to the graveyard without a chance for regeneration ISN'T cartoonish?

Point taken. I guess some old art just doesn't resonate with me. I find art from some of the old sets just not to my liking. That being said, there is plenty of new art which I also don't like. Personal taste I guess
Hold on a moment guys. I'm jumping in a bit late on this topic but my recommendation is for foil 8th Wrath of God and pack foil Damnation.
I specifically went with 8th ed over Xth because that way the alignment of the text (as well as the frame) matches for *** and Damnation. 8th and Planar Chaos are both left-aligned, while the text in Xth is centered. Just another aesthetic point to take into consideration.
8th Ed through Theros block had "new border".
M15 onward has the, for lack of a better name, "M15 border".
I really love the look of old black cards with the "dirty yellow" color in the card text.

I'd go with 10th edition in that case.

Pack foil or Judge? Which would you rather as I assume those are the PIMP ones
Also, Hanna, Ship's Navigator I know the card is big in EDH, what do people think of the Judge foil. Feels like it would be a good fit in our MP cube
