Will any of you shy away from using your favorite artwork for a card if it's not available in foil? Or worse, would you tolerate a white border? For instance (and I know I've said this before), but I adore my Mirage Incinerate, and wouldn't trade it for any other existing art, regardless of how shiny it is. We talked about Pacifism earlier, and I was running the 7th edition one, non-foiled and white bordered, for a long time simply because I prefer the art. It was great finally tracking down a foil one though.

Can you name all of the creature types with at least 20 cards? Try my Sporcle Quiz! Last Updated: 6/29/20 (Core Set 2021).
I rank black-bordered, non-foil cards with sweet art the highest. I try to run as few foil cards as possible, but I would always run a foil card over a white-bordered card. Since last year, I have reduced the number of white-bordered cards in my cube from over three dozen to slightly over one dozen, ten of which are dual lands from Unlimited. I run no silver-, gold- or Alpha/Beta-bordered cards in my cube. Black borders all the way! (Or at least as far as possible.)

I run a fully un-foiled, completely black-bordered cube. I do so because all my lands are white bordered, so they are easier to sort out after the draft is done. When I ran into a situation where a card had a white bordered version with what I perceived to be better art I would cheat and sharpie the border. Plow Under and Savannah Lions are the two biggest examples off the top of my head.

Aren't Alpha/Beta-bordered cards black bordered?

Not really and not entirely. They have 2-4 white dots and two different shades of black. It actually blew my mind when I found out that this wasn't some kind of misprint, but that ALL Alpha and Beta (and Collector's Edition) cards where printed like this. I have absolutely no idea why they would print cards with such ugly, three-colored borders.
It's a printing error. That white dot is where the card was suppose to be cut. But at some point they wrapped an additional border around it. By the time it was noticed it was too late. And in the second printing they figured it was too much of a pain in the ass to fix. If you look at Circle of Protection: black and Volcanic Island (the two cards left off the sheet by accident) you will see that the problem was fixed and those two cards have solid borders/no white dots.

there really is no difference between the pack and pre-release except pre-release has a date stamped on it. So I'll say pre-release biased as I collect pre-release cards.
Fetchlands: Onslaught nonfoil or Khans foil? Very few other foils in the cube, most of what's there is selected for black border, Modern frame. Trying to avoid the M15 frame, but foil fetchlands might, just MIGHT be a valid reason to desecrate the cube with it?

Hey all... I'm retired, not dead. Check out what I'm doing these days (and beg me to come back if you want):
If you aren't maxing out the number of foils in your cube, I would stick to the ONS fetchlands. Especially if you dislike the M15 frame. The ONS fetchlands already have block borders and at least half of them have better art then the KTK versions. Doing this would also save you a lot of money.

Huh? I was told that all Alpha and Beta cards suffer from this. Did they just remove the white dots in later printings or did they also use a unified black border? Even without the white dots, the two different shades of black are still noticeable with the naked eye.
Edit: I think I misread your post. So, you are saying that it was a printing error, but that all Alpha and Beta cards (except for the two cards that you mentioned) have this problem. Or are there Beta printings where the issue was completely fixed and the cards have truly black borders?

You could get the FBB versions of these cards, from the equivalent of Unlimited. They should have normal black borders.
Bonus: German Winter Orb is called "Frostbringer"

I don't want to run non-English language cards though. The way I "pimp" my cube is by trying to run only black-bordered, non-foil English cards (at least where this is possible).
Is it just me or does "Frostbringer" sound a bit like the name of a metal band?
I currently run a foil one from 7th, but I'm curious to hear what others think.
I'm a bit late on this. I have a copy of the ONS foil and it's one of the most beautiful cards I have ever seen. Everyone who has seen it in my battlebox feels the same way.

This. Though I do really like the new Windswept Heath art, the old border foil beats it out for sure.
