We drafted four 6x6 quilts with my 720 card cube, it was the most fun we had drafting in a long time. He was able to pull together a nasty recurring nightmare deck that just stomped the crap out of me....
this is the only way I will be drafting 2 players from now on!! THANK YOU!!

Love this idea! How have you guys been doing this with three and four players? My group often gets this small and I've yet to find a solid way to draft with small groups.

Do you stop each quilt after half the cards are gone?
So, did you do four quilts, drafting 32 of 64? How was the power level? What were the decks like?
Most importantly, was it fun?
tom chaps, the dice rolling each turn (after everyone grabbed their card) made some of the strategies to grab cards or to force other players to grab subpar cards in order to protect better cards a lot of fun.
my only suggestion is to maybe, out of 64 cards, limit to a total of 32 picks, then reshuffle cards and deal out a new set from the remaining cube. there gets a point where a players are afraid to unlock a powerful card and basically help another players deck, so you have to refresh the lquilt

forcing people to unlock cards is the fun of this draft format. I would never reset a quilt.

Just an update on how we've been quilting. My most frequent opponent and I both dislike having perfect information, so we've been quilting less in the past year. Last night, however, we decided to do the following: Winston 32 cards before drafting two 8x8 quilts (stopping, as usual, halfway through). That way, you have roughly a third of your cards from the Winston, which means that there is still some uncertainty about what your opponent is drafting.
The extra cards allowed for significant hatedrafting, but also made for quite streamlined decks. I got an early build-around card in the Winston (Doubling Season), and that hidden information really made the quilt more enjoyable.
Amusingly, he first-picked a Pailano, the High City, and I arbitrarily chose RG, while he chose U. That warped his entire draft towards those colors. Oddly, I also drafted RUG...
Anyway, something to consider for those who don't like perfect information.
It sounds like everyone has had time to experiment with and experience "Quilt Drafting."
If one were to cater a cube to quilt drafting, are there certain cards you would or would not include in your list? Are certain cards more exciting to see? More exciting to pick? Do certain cards make you feel like "that guy?"

Quilting works quite well with any cube. However, if you're customizing your cube for the format, I'd say you could include more narrow, combo, and build-around cards than in a normal cube. Knowing your opponent has, say, Splinter Twin would make unlocking that Pestermite really costly.
I would say more narrow build around me cards get worse in this format. It is too easy to hate the key archetype cards that a person needs. Oh you have a Smokestacks and Braids. Looks like I'm going to hate that crucible of worlds. Stoneforge Mystic almost never gets paired with powerful equipments.
IMO quilt drafting favors a cube with a more flat power curve. If you have cards like Jitte and Jace TMS they will stay locked behind a card almost every draft.

I was recently in Philly, and Dan and I did a quilt draft...
...with only the draftable cards face-up! As other cards became available to draft, we turned the cards face-up. It added a fun new dimension of discovery and variance.
That's awesome. It reduces the analysis paralysis that can strike, and you get that delicious Chaos-Warp-what-will-I-slip excitement. I'll have to try it, especially since I don't mind extra variance.
I'll be flying out to Philly tomorrow--maybe I'll have time to quilt with Dan, as well...
That just sounds like you could achieve a similar experience by making a sort of conveyor belt draft where you just flip over one or two new cards every time someone drafts one.
Sounds like a blast! Can't wait to try this out. To me this method is screaming for some dice rolls to mix things up. So if you're doing an 8x8 and you have a couple d8 (or a nifty app) go ahead and roll them (determine which is rows and which is columns, or use one and roll it for rows, then columns) and pluck out the card at the given coordinates to open things in the middle up from the beginning. Maybe even every couple of picks roll it again! Maybe multiple times would be too crazy.... Just an interesting possibility if you want to open it up more.
