@ Sasky - Pretty good alters. Are you altering all your cards yourself?
@ _i0 - Your picture demonstrates why I don't want Beta cards in my cube: I can clearly see the two white dots in the borders on both cards and I can even see the line between the two different blacks on Lightning Bolt.
@ wtwlf - There are some German card names that are accidentally awesome (like Frostbringer or Übermyr), but there are also a lot of names that just sound super silly. At least to a native speaker. Sometimes, they are so silly that they are fun again, like Quietschkuchen-Schleicher. Though I guess that pointing out Lorwyn names isn't fair, since most of those are just as silly in English.
The only German cards left in my cube are Glücksrad, Champion des Sprengels and Tempel des Siechtums. Otherwise, I "pimped" my cube out with English cards only. (Fun fact: The German version of Champion of the Parish is only one letter away from a double entendre, since Champion des Prengels could be translated to "***** Champion".)
I don't get how looking dirty and botched up makes something (more) awesome. Alpha/Beta cards look as if someone with terrible Photoshop skills tried to fake some Magic cards and completely messed up the border.
Ankh was only in my Cube in spirit for YEARS because I couldn't find a BB one...until this past month!
@Starslayer: It's more of a retro thing, because the old artwork is also much simpler than the new artwork as well...but the old stuff evokes nostalgia, mystique, pimpness, and a time when Magic was a much simpler game.
It looks like it was done in a time where the game was new and it was created by people. When the cards looked like paper spells from a book, like they were intended to. The frames and the art both contributed to the feel of the game; imperfections and all. Instead of loking mechanical and mass-produced like they do now. All the cards from 1993/1994 have that feel to them, and I like it. You don't have to, but I think the really old-school cards look far superior to the new product, because they contribute to the feel of the game better. The new cards are the ones that look like they were made in Photoshop. The old cards look like they were made by hand and press, and THAT's the feeling the game has lost over the years. So there.

I don't think "best design skills" is a big concern for a lot of fans/collectors (obviously including myself). I'd rather have a little piece of MTG history than a more modern, cleaner design. To each his own, of course.
Butcher is actually very good; the others were pickups for possible inclusion in my Modern Cube, even though both cards are likely better than most think.
I bought some square-border/gold-back cards on a whim. Not "pimp" compared to actual Beta, but still look rad and I'm happy to get to sleeve 'em up. And, hey, got the whole stack for the cost of a Pabst or two rather than spending 20-year scotch money on a single Swords to Plowshares.
I was able to pick up a CE Tropical Island pretty cheap because someone took fingernail clippers to the corners. The upside was that I got it cheap and the corners are almost perfect and I was planning on painting whatever TropIsle I got anyway. The downside is... none for me really. Honestly, I am glad I didn't have to make that decision myself because I would have probably clipped them to make them match the rest of the cards.
Considering they are rarer than A/B it doesn't surprise me they've been going up over the last few years.
Anyone have any idea where one might be able to pick up a foil Korean M12 Llanowar Elves? I can't even Google image search to prove that one exists. I know that M12 came in Korean. And I know that Llanowar Elves was in M12. Why the hell can't I find a foil?

Love it!
Thanks man, much appreciated!
Thanks! I love FBB cards, although I don't run them in my cube for accessibility reasons. I do run them in my classic (old border) cube though.
