I just finished taking photographs of the Sugarcube. The full Sugarcube can be viewed here. It contains 200 NM+/M Guru Lands (40 of each). I love the art work and after nearly a decade of tracking down Guru Lands, the set is finally complete. Enjoy...
I want to get a set of foil Zen full art lands for Mountains, Forests, Islands and Plains. The Swamps are a disappointment - the Unhinged ones are so much better - but I love completion, so I'll probably go for this Swamp.
In current set drafts and Standard I use whichever current lands I like best.
I don't always play Legacy or EDH, but when I do, I use Mirage Tony Roberts Forests, Ice Age Christopher Rush Plains, Mirage Douglas Schuler Islands, Ice Age Douglas Schuler Swamps, and APAC Rebecca Guay and Arena 1996 Mountains. Stay virgins, my friends. (Just kidding.)
i understand they're expensive, but honestly i don't get the love for the guru lands. they're not unattractive or anything, but i'll take unhinged basics over them any day.
it's quite a collecting accomplishment, of course.
When I see Healing Salve, I'm often like "Oh girl, I wish I could turn every card into this." Thanks they removed the gain life part, otherwise this would have been broken.

I'm with this 100%. Not a fan of the art, but I like the history. My cube is enough of a liability as it is. I don't need a $15k basic land box to have to worry about.
What is the reason for having all matching land? I have always thought being highlander was key to the character of the cube, and so use my 40 favourite different arts for each of the basic land types.

Because non-matching art can reveal extra information to your opponent as you play.

And yet, in all the cube drafts we've played, there hasn't been a single time that it's been relevant.
I know it's strictly better to use the same pictures, but it's not once been important, and I think different pictures fit the highlander theme so much better. I think it's so much more flavorful to have different arts.

Maybe I'm crazy, but I always take note of the art in my opponent's hand when Duressing in any format I play. I also pay attention to art that people bring back with LftL in Legacy, because people mess this one up a LOT. It might come into play 1 time out of a 100, but that one time, your opponent is going to know you drew dead instead of a Counterspell or important card.

It mattered for us a number of times before I switched to all-identical lands.

That simply hasn't happened in our group yet. I know it can, but it just hasn't happened. We pay attention to revealed cards on both sides of the board, and we don't reveal any unnecessary information.
Sometimes it can happen against your will (like against random discard after a duress) but that hasn't happened once yet, in all of our games.
We take note of land arts that are revealed too. Always. But even in doing that, we haven't uncovered any extra information yet, because our opponents are pretty conscientious players.
Cursed Scroll could be a giant culprit, especially as often times you are naming basic land (so it gives your opponent even more incentive to look at the art).
i take the game the most seriously out of anyone in the group, it's pretty casual here. so to be totally honest, we're not good enough players for that to matter. but since nonmatching lands reward the better player i don't really see the reason to match them except for aesthetic reasons. so what if once out of a hundred times you give away information? why would that be upsetting? there's plenty of random elements to the game and plenty of subtle skill-testing elements. i don't see why anyone would care about going out of their way to remove one of them.
When I see Healing Salve, I'm often like "Oh girl, I wish I could turn every card into this." Thanks they removed the gain life part, otherwise this would have been broken.

I'd be interested in seeing what arts you're using for your lands. Do you have pics of your basics? This is something I've thought about doing for my C/U cube, but just haven't done for whatever reason. That cube currently has all the same Mountains (Urza's Saga), Forests (Portal 1), and Islands (Portal 1), but the Swamps are mismatched between Portal 1 and 2 and Invasion and the Plains are all over the place.
In my rare cube I use all the same Zendikar basics. I like using the same picture on each land, simply because I've just always done that. Since I started playing and realized I could use the same picture on all of my basics, I've been in that practice. It was only natural that I do it with my cube as well. The revealing of information has probably been relevant about ten or so times throughout my cube's history and I'd say most of those times are Cursed Scroll related. The rest would probably be divided evenly between Duress effects and clumsily (drunkenly?) dropping cards.
I was originally intending to get matching land sets for my cube, but after a while I found it a bit monotonous. You are smashing creatures and spells of all different eras together, so I think that having a mitt full of unique lands goes well with the spirit of the cube. There are well-played old lands, fresh new lands, foily lands, full print lands, snow-covered lands, and altered art lands, functioning together to power out an equally diverse set of spells.
What I have just started doing, and I'm not sure how many more I will do, is to tape off the borders of a card and just paint a picture of the appropriate land full panel style. I've done a forest and a mountain so far and they are looking pretty cool, although I am sure someone with some actual painting skills would be able to make them look amazing.
I'll try to get some scans up at some point, but if anyone else has done any altered art lands I would love to see some.

I on the other hand love my matching basics. My cube goal of the year is to finish getting all of my lands matching. So far I'm done with islands and four away from being done with plains. (PM me if you have any you are willing to donate, I'll dig through my basics if you have any particular needs)
Here is what I have now.

Best island pic ever. I must disagree on the plains choice, however... The John Avon Invasion Plains (#3) is my fav.
Nice art choice, but alas, it's not New border so it's not even in the running.
@Followthereaper: I don't run snow-basics. So it's not even worth considering. But really there are enough quality red spells where I don't have to make a house rule to stretch to fit it in. In the same way where there are enough quality green spells where I don't have to have an errata on Nissa.

I'm probably in the vast minority when I say I like revised basic lands. I think the white border looks good with the rest of the card, and I like the angled "T" for the tap symbol.
But, my friends are complaining that they're too hard to distinguish from one another, so I'm getting some Zendikar basics soon.

Actually, it was reprinted in 8th, 9th, and 10th Edition.
I like that Plains alot myself, but my favorite is either M10/M11 Plains #2 or Shadowmoor Plains #1.
