I just wanted to give people a heads up that I found the simplified chinese alternate art basic lands from Portals. Channel fireball managed to get some that aren't listed in their inventory. I e-mailed them and we worked out a deal. The saturation on these lands is insane compared to most basics. Far and away the most beautiful forests and mountains! More proud of these bad boys than guru/foil unhinged. I thought I should spread the word.
Okay, I'm not sure if this is the right place or not so I'll just ask. I'm planning on buying a box or two of conspiracy and make a sort of cube out of it. How much basic land of each type should I go with for an 8 man "cube"?

I'm in the planning phases of making a cube. One idea I came up with was for each basic type have one art to go with each of the four other colors (white looking islands, red looking forests, etc) and one cold weather/snow art (not actual snow lands). This is what I came up with as a potential suite in WUBRGsnowy order, what do you all think? Is there a basic swamp out there with snowy art or would I have to use a Snow-Covered one/break the theme?
@Sunburstas
I would use Plains 308 and swamp 312 personally, but your cycle is good overall.
So, I'm planning on a revamp of the basics for cube. I want to capture part of the flavor of every set, so I've decided on 1 foil for each basic land type originally printed in each set.
Here's what I have planned. Let me know if you disagree with any of the art choices or if I missed your favorite art. I'm convincable.
Mercadian Masques
Invasion
Seventh Edition
Odyssey
Onslaught
Mirrodin
Champions of Kamigawa
Ravnica: City of Guilds
Time Spiral
Lorwyn
Shadowmoor
Shards of Alara
Magic 2010
Close call with Plains with this John Avon:
Zendikar
Rise of the Eldrazi
Magic 2011
Scars of Mirrodin
Wanted to capture the artifact land locations in the background.
Mirrodin Besieged
New Phyrexia
Really love the Phyrexian feel on these.
Magic 2012
Innistrad
Wanted to capture as dark as possible in Innistrad.
I think that's a really sweet idea for cube basics. Obviously everyone has different favorites for basics, so I think it's completely up to you. Are you going to keep the trend up and add five or ten new basics to your cube each year?
Also, since you asked for suggestions, no way my Khans Island doesn't go to this one:
Agreed w/ Calibretto on that Island. There's a ton of those lands that I'd change (too many to have the time to comment on) but that Island is certainly one of the ones I would swap.

Also, since you asked for suggestions, no way my Khans Island doesn't go to this one:
In keeping with capturing the flavor of each set, I used a basic representing the clans they correspond to. White = Abzan/Dromoka, Blue=Jeskai/Ojutai, Black=Sultai/Silumgar, Red=Mardu/Kolaghan, Green=Temur/Atarka.
Kamigawa Mountains are beautiful, I had forgotten they were so good.
I prefer the Adam Paquette Forest form Return to Ravnica, and the Florian de Gesincourt Mountain from Fate Reforged (I don't like the Mardu lands in general, but you have your theme going on ). Most of your other choices are pretty spot on. I wouldn't be able to do what you are doing since I love my Esper basics, or Ravnica lands in general to choose a single piece.
For the innistrad/avacyn lands, I'd include 1:1 dark and light versions of each land. The 1:1 islands with the ships are some of my favorite lands in all of magic!
I've been doing the same thing with my lands, although there are some multiples from individual sets (like the Zen full arts, where I have the whole cycle). It takes a very long time to populate all of them though. I still have gaps.
Great idea and the choices are pretty much personal preference, as most basic lands have sweet art
But I wonder why you don't use lands from before MM. Since you have listed 30 sety exactly, does this mean, the oldest lands are always rotating out? this would be pretty sad. Or is it just because you don't want to run lands with text instead of the big mana symbol? I'd understand this, but I wish they would've printed basics with big symbols from the beginning, because the old sets had some great art. Oh, and - in this case - you should consider the coldsnap theme deck versions to get some great artworks you'd be missing otherwise:
I hope this is the correct place to ask a simple question from an ignorant newbie that is trying to get done his first deck for a Standard game out of Khans of Tarkir block.... So, if I play a Standard game, do all the basic land cards have to be from the currently accepted release/set/block? Can I use basic lands from previous ones? Depending on that I would buy a Fat Pack of Dragons of Tarkir or separated boosters...
Sorry for the naive question.... and thank you in advance!!
You're a long way from the Standard subforum, but you can use basic lands from any set you want to in Standard or any other constructed MTG format. Feel free to pimp out your Standard deck with foil full art Zendikar basic lands.

Yes, you can use any printing of a card that's legal in the format. It doesn't have to be from the exact set that's legal in the format. For example, you can use Duresses from Urza's Saga if you want, since the card was reprinted in a standard legal set. Same goes with basic lands.

Thanks!! OK, I didn't know that. It makes quite sense... So, it might not be worth it to buy a fat pack, if you don't actually need the basic lands...

Thanks a lot for the reply! And sorry, since it was a question about basic lands, I thought this was the place (I'm new to forums as well). I'll take more care where to post next question.
This thread is for discussion of of basic lands people want to use with their cubes, but don't worry about it.
IMHO, Fat Packs are kind of a bad deal unless you really love the boxes they come in (and even then you can usually get those separately for a buck or two). If you need basics you can buy bulk lots of them for cheap (http://www.trollandtoad.com/p109040.html). Most game shops have more of them than they know what to do with.

Also, THIS plains is clearly the Mirrodin choice!
