I believe that blisterpod was expected to no longer be in standard as amonkhet is rotated in.
I think the possibility of
T1: blisterpod
T2: exemplar of strength kill blister get scion
T3: crocodile of the crossing counter on exemplar. Attack for 9 + gain 1 life
Seems too powerful to ignore (in mono green no less and easily splashable)
The start of my deck. People forget that Kessig Prowler is a Card and late game can be flipped to a 4/4. Adds good aggression to the deck and gives another target for -1/-1 counters. I have won many a game off the back of prowler.

With mono color would you not want the ability to have TKS or Reality Smasher? The mana base can def. have utility lands
Rhonas Monument does not get as much use with either TKS and Reality smasher. Double green in the mana cost of Serpopard and Gearhulk are also an issue as nothing feels worse than missing double green on turn 3 because you have a colorless land.

I really like the way this deck looks. Think this would be good for me as a new player?
As a new player I think the above list is more than fine. A couple of things to look out for
Land Sequencing because of needing Colorless mana to cast Thought knot and Reality smasher will be key. Good thing is those cards are late drops so prioritize Green mana the first three turns.
Knowing where to place -1/-1 counters is going to be key as well.
Other than that the deck plays pretty straight forward. Just beat face, and have fun.

I thought those diamonds could be spent with any color. You mean I specifically need colorless mana to play them?
Yep. That Colorless mana was introduced during Battle for Zendikar Block and it is to be considered the "6th" color of mana. (granted only creatures from one set ever need it) but it is is called "Waste" mana. So if it generic colorless you can tap any many for that, however if it is Waste mana with a Diamond which actually is a Hedron, then you have to tap lands that give you that Hedron.
Also note that mana from Channeler cannot be used to tap for that mana.

Also note that mana from Channeler cannot be used to tap for that mana.
