Looking to get into modern and want a fairly cheap deck that won't lose a whole lot when rotation happens. Does anyone have ideas for a deck like this? Thanks.
Esper Dragon control is only really losing Hero's downfall and those decks are already cutting it, they don't play many dissolves either and they will almost certainly have another 3 cmc counterspell. I'd imagine if block constructed was still a thing it would dominate.
Den protector + deathmist raptor is sure to find a shell, green decks are losing Courser but is it really that big a deal?
Standard is really Khan's based now that I think about it, the only truly dead decks are Green devotion but ramp can still work as a strategy I am sure.
The planeswalker options get weaker in general with rotation.
I'm really looking forward to jeskai post rotation. 3 Drop hasty vigilant 3/3 flyer should be fun again.
Sure! Granted I think Jeskai Dragon Control holds much more future.
With Dragonlord Ojutai arguably being the best Tempo Control creature allready in Standard, add in Silumgar's Scorn, Draconic Roar, Soulfire Grand Master, Seeker of the Way and many more great Tempo Control cards I feel the set up is there allready but is underrated currently, by a lot of people. IF Lightning Bolt get's a reprint (and I don't think that's 100% unlikely) the deck is set up very well.
Ouch, imagine a standard with lightning bolt. Will be a bit electric

Have been there before and it's actually quite cool honestly. Granted without the Fleecemane's it isn't that much needed and other Abzan/Esper Dragons have Thoughness 4 or greater.
I feel a lot of Morph creatures currently are a bit too powerfull right now so honestly I'd like it.
Isn't magma spray good enough for them? or is the 3 damage for 1 just that necessary. Not saying I'm against it, but it's cool.
as much as I was annoyed about having scry lands be our duels in Theros cus of how slow they were, I'll be sad when they rotate. They were really good for control decks. Still, white control looks like it can still exist post rotation which is cool.
Esper Dragons loses Pain Lands, Scry Lands, Hero's Downfall, Thoughtseize, Bile Blight, Dissolve, Drown in Sorrow and Negate.
the deck that always rebounds easily from post-rotation is the red aggro archetype.
The Green Devotion was the only one that kind of "survived" the last rotation. Next rotation, the decks that will most likely survive are the Den Protector and Raptor decks, no doubt.
But post-rotation, a lot of thing changes. It's not about "what deck survives" but more about "what engines/synergies survive".
With those losses, particularly downfall, thoughtseize, and bile blight, I wonder if the esper archetype shifts from UBw to UWb. If there's some decent white removal printed, this could be pretty viable. Black needed for crux, silumgar and foul-tongue mostly.
It's hard to confidently say which decks will be good and which won't. Origins could introduce format-definers that aren't "discovered" until BFZ. Still, looking at Tarkir block, I would suggest Orzhov Warriors; the cards are inexpensive, the strategy isn't too different than RDW, and it can win.

Especially after the rotation of Bile Blight and the like, which are currently fairly terrifying cards to have to deal with. 5 mana sweepers are manageable because you can put on enough pressure or even kill before that's a thing, but getting your board wiped for 3 from a Drown in Sorrow can be too much to recover from.
This is waaaay too early to be discussing rotation. We don't know over half the cards that will be legal in BFZ standard and guessing at what will be the best deck is largely baseless.
This rotation discussion can occur once BFZ has begun to be spoiled, otherwise it's just speculation with less than 50% of necessary information.
