Hey all,
I've just been brewing up a bunch of different lists for spirit bonds and looking up enter the battlefield effects as well as bounce to get multiple spirits, etc. Anyway, I came across this combo and thought about it, this is pretty powerful, no? I'm just not sure what kind of deck to build around it. There are plenty of things to bounce the Archaeomancer, and maybe spellstrike chimera for instants/sorcerie matter theme and spite of mogis. I was also thinking of purphoros recycle archeomancer theme, this would especially be good with spirit bonds too, but it seems much too mana intensive. Peel from reality plus archaeomancer plus spirit bond trigger is 7 mana a turn. and all you really get is a bounce and a spirit, idk... what does anyone else think. Is it worth it? Is there a deck shell we could put this in to make it work, or just bust it wide open?
Also, these two cards were in Standard together before and nothing came of it. Peel from Reality only bounces creatures. Paying six mana for Unsummon just isn't viable. Bouncing opposing creatures is typically only effective in fast tempo decks -- they're trying to play a quick, aggressive game rather than letting the game go on long.
Basically, by the time you get the combo going, your opponent will probably have too much going on for it to matter.
A more "powerful" combo with Archeomancer is to hook him up with Gift of immortality and a Sac engine like Bubbling Cauldron.
You then just keep recycling your most powerful spells, or the most relevant for the time.
It's not as easy to pull off (So "Powerful" may be debatable), but it gets way more advantage than your combo with much less mana investment.
Basically once the combo is assembled it becomes "Once per turn you can pay 1: Gain 4 life, Target instant or Sorcery gains Flashback" (Kind of).
Instant, repeatable, infinite Counterspells FTW!
I've played a lot with Gift of Immortality, there are a surprising amount of ways to break it.

My favourite way to do it would be a curve like:
Turn One - Barrage of Expendables
Turn Two - Voice of Resurgence
Turn Three - Gift of Immortality
Turn Four - Purphoros, God of the Forge
Throw a dude, get two dudes, trigger twice for 4 damage, repeated. Fun times!
