Generator Servant is a 2/1 for 1R, but that's not what's exciting about it. You can tap and sac it to ad 2 colorless mana to your pool and if you use that mana to cast a creature it gains haste. It'a a common that's sure to be fun in limited but the acceleration it gives is pretty explosive. The possibility of 5 mana on turn 3, plus Haste if you're casting a creature, that's pretty great for a common.
And there are a few 5 drops that synergies really well with it,
to name just a few. It's very tempting to want to build around I'm just finding my problem is, there isn't enough of him. It's a concept that ideally goes online by turn 3 and if it does, it's pretty hard for your opponent to recover. But even with a full playset your subject to a single removal or thoughtseize to slow you down considerably. Hammer of Purphoros as a 3 drop isn't a bad back up if you miss your chance at a turn 3 five drop. Am I missing other synergistic cards? Or does the new elemental simply not have enough in the building pool to help him be a threat in the 75?
Well I was wondering if this guy was gonna get any love, honestly though I see turn three polukranos with hat optionally being the most played combo, G/R monsters being such a common deck right now.
i WILL cast a turn 3 hasty sire of insanity this summer. it's going to happen.
edit: i guess it wont's happen. i thought he was 3BR. i'll run caryatids over mystics which'll wreck all my chance for turn 3, but i'll still cast a hasty sire.
This is a great list, and I cannot believe I forgot about everybody's favorite, least favorite Hydra. Keranos I like, but dislike, he will help your draw and start dishing out damage early which is great but I think there are better options. Assemble the Legion however... if you have to play a non-creature, that card is pretty tasty.
I've been playing RG with Generator Servant for some time now. The money play is obviously GS + Kalonian Hydra; it's basically my Thoughtseize + Pack Rat. They have exactly one shot (turn) to stop it; otherwise it's game. With Temples, it will happen decently often. But of course, the challenge is to build a deck around it that doesn't just fold if your combo doesn't happen.
The trick is to make sure you're ramping into something that either threatens almost immediate kill or gives you card advantage right away so sacrificing Generator Servant will cost you less. 4GG Garruk is a pretty good play on turn 4. Genesis Hydra is also castable on turn 4 with Generator Servant, giving you a shot at getting a Polukranos or something else to compensate for the sacrificed Servant.
I really think there's potential in this guy. My opponents usually start aiming stuff at his head after game 1.
Oh man, just to think if Valakut and its older brother eldrazi ramp had this when prime time was around.. deer lord, that would have been unfair. As it stands, it's like a red Joraga treespeaker, which is fantastic.
And there are a few 5 drops that synergies really well with it,
- Indulgent Tormentor
- Underworld Cerberus
- Blood Baron of Vizkopa
- Master of Cruelties

Not for like 20$ on ebay want, but enough I bought two sets for 1$ each.
I look forward to dropping some sort of large brute with the servant. Would be insane if it recouped a red and colorless... But hey.
