This card has so much potential, and depending on what else is spoiled or what 1CMC instants get printed, this thing might see play. I see some serious undervaluing going on in this thread.
I see the opposite. Then again it's the spoiler season so why am I even trying.
This cards just yells TRAP so hard I can't bear the hype. Sure, there are cases when it's good (burn & titan's strength give you some options), but then there are the cases where he absolutely STINKS.
The main one (and a very relevant one) being a simple Sylvan Caryatid. If this guy gets there, it'll either be from the sideboard (red Nightveil Specter on crack, for decks without blockers) or with a bit of help (Bestow, Madcap Skils, Titan's Strength, etc. My initial impression was that you could just use burn/bounce to get this guy through (sliding him into a tempo shell) but with an 0/3 Hexproof waiting for him that isn't going to be enough.
It seems crazy. People in this thread are basically just coming up with multicoloured 2- and 3-card combos to build-your-own Chandra, Pyromaster. When would you EVER want this thing over Chandra?

I mean the guy is pretty good with something like Titan's strength or Rubblebelt Makka. Just swing with team and if the time is right just pump him. The card isn't nearly as bad as you are making it sound. Honestly I judging by all your other posts am led to believe you're just trolling.
Ugh. People saying things you disagree with is not trolling.
And 'swing with team and see what happens" isn't exactly a stellar strategy.
Look, if this guy cost 2 mana he would be fine. But look at the slot. Chandra's phoenix BLOWS it out of the water even just from a card advantage point of view, let alone value, evasion and self-protection.
This card is absolute garbage. I'm not trolling. I'm evaluating. Sure i'll huck it into a deck and give it a go once it drops. But I'll be astonished if it's anything but a brick.
You literally said scroll thief is strictly better.
The amount of creatures with trample and double strike are few and far between. This is a solid card. It aint another master of waves or thassa but it is certainly playable. You act like Mono-Red aggro is a terrible deck.

Would Dark Confidant still be good if he punched you in the face for 5 damage a turn?
I have a feeling that this is more about the double strike trample than the "draw" half the time though its presence is relevant. Not busted, not garbage. I don't think it will break constructed or anything but it isn't exactly terribad either. You can't make it work by slapping it into a random deck but in a halfway build around me, it isn't that bad at all. Also, post 12. Barely limited playable? Please. Let's re-examine the cards we play in limited that do things as well as the nature of the flow of limited and say that again.

Let's see, it is a double strike creature so it has essentially 2 power. It has trample, which I will concede is worse than flying. It has 3 toughness, which is better than the Phoenix's 2. It provides much larger amounts of card advantage than the Phoenix. It also plays really well with pumps.

An aggro deck, a deck already running 4 drops, a deck with a lot of pump spells, or a shaman tribal deck (it exists in Modern).
This guy wont do anything in Standard at all.
If a really pushed creature like Brimaz, King of Oreskos sees no play besides in UW Control sideboards because the environment is so hostile. How do you think this is playable then?
It cost three mana, has no immediate impact(haste), cannot attack into any of the common creatures in Standard right now without dying and doing anything besides maybe trading, needs additional support cards like pump spells therefore. Did I mention that the top decks are removal.dec which would really like to 2-for-1 you?
I mean Im not a brewer but I know other people like to do that. Please try to make him work. But Im pretty sure we all know what will come out of it if you leave christmas land for a second and take a look at Standard again and how it looks like.

While this could be true, it will be a decent Boros Reckoner replacement in red devotion decks post-rotation.

I still think this card is suitable (maybe a 2-of) in Boros aura/heroic or Naya Hexproof (side board in this case).
Yes, it doesn't have hexproof, but it is definitely a threat that needs to be answered. Even if he is likely just a canon fodder, it's still a good cannon fodder.

Every threat hexproof plays is a must-answer. This is not how you build a hexproof deck.
He makes you commit a lot of resources. Ajani's Presence or Gods Willing work decently, but neither play well with his secondary ability. Ghor Clan or Mad Cap are good too. I guess we'll have to see if they print anything else or if they print Rancor.
Since when do Chandra or Scroll Thief net you 2 cards at once? If this guy connects just once you are in major value town. If you Ghor-Clan him that's 10 damage And then you get 2 cards. The guy seriously forces an answer. We have never seen an ophidian that actually has a real damage output like this guy. He actually applies pressure while gaining you cards. That aspect of him is seriously being undervalued.

He won't net you cards unless you can cast them, and setting him up with burn or ghor-clan ties your mana. The best-case scenarios are pretty nice but the worst-case scenarios are horrid
Does what Chandra can do without needing to attack.
This is Wizards saying "red isn't a card drawing color, we have no idea what we're doing with mono red cards anymore"
Haste would have made this card not suck. Your opponent is just going to block it. You pretty much have to pump it which leaves you open to getting 2 for 1'ed the worst tempo disadvantage in all of magic.

You're spending 3 mana to cast it so it's not like haste would be doing you any favors in actually casting the cards he flips.

If he had haste you could at least fit him into a ramp style deck and it would make top-decking him better late game, when you can drop him and swing and cast what is revealed before you give them a turn to answer it.

If I'm playing a ramp deck I think I'd have better things to ramp into than a 3 drop that gets blocked by pretty much every other 3 drop in the format.

Your right, I am not trying to argue for the card at all, it is an uber trap card that will make a lot of players lose right when the set releases.
Seems like it would be interesting in a RB control build or a UR tempo/control build, even a mono R or GR aggro with Dragon Mantle/Firefist Striker (I think the first 2 prob better homes atm)
How many creatures have ever been printed with "trample, double-strike?" The answer is probably fewer than you think, with just Dragon Tyrant (some cards have the ability to imprint both abilities, like Cairn Wanderer). Dragon Tyrant is a 10 drop 6/6 with a RRRR upkeep. So no card has ever been printed with that combination of abilities that was anything close to fitting a curve. For other types of evasion see:
The point is that simply having double-strike and evasion is rare, especially at a playable CMC. The card draw is in addition to that ability. This is probably the reason for the card's rarity; even if it isn't better in current decks it is still a majorly pushed card as far as double-strikers go.
This card is worse than Markov Blademaster, which was unplayable in its day.
at least that one could swing for 3 then 7 damage over 2 turns by itself...this card swings for 2...then...2.
If you could cast the removed cards beyond 'this turn', the card would be very good. If it had haste or was a 2/3 it would be good. I look at this card and feel like they maybe originally made it stronger and someone looked at it and said 'woah dude! it can't be this good when all the other mono color mythics are SO BAD. make it a 1/3'...Like Chromanticore....epic fail.
On the bright side, it's not worse than Worst Fears. But it is worse than Sage of Hours, except maybe in limited.
And just because it's cute, pretend you swing in with this guy...the W/U control player declares no blocks, you deal first strike damage and put the ability on the stack, they respond with Azorius Charm...lolz

Storm Crow is strictly worse than Seacoast Drake.

If Blinding Flare starts seeing play in mono R then Prophetic Flamespeaker should def get a good look imo
Flying: Skyhunter Skirmisher, Skyspear Calvary, and Drogskol Reaver
Others: Mirran Crusader, Rakdos Pit Dragon, [card]Gisela, Blade of Goldnight
