OK, so here's my non-Dragons GR aggro deck. The whole thrust of the deck is to go under UB/Esper Dragons. Shaman of the Great Hunt is kind of the unsung hero here - when he punches through, everything gets a counter, so he's absolutely bonkers with Temur Battle Rage. It lets you blow through defenders and buff your creatures. The only meta where I wouldn't see this deck doing well is one that's Wild Slash-heavy.
So here's my question: I run three Rattleclaw Mystic for ramp, but I've been eyeing Avatar of the Resolute. It seems that in a deck potentially loaded with +1/+1 counters (Goblin tokens attacking with Shaman on the board is big game too, BTW), Avatar could turn into a Tarmogoyf in the late-game. My reasoning is that I obviously hate drawing Rattleclaw Mystic and Elvish mystic in the late-game. While Avatar wouldn't be that great early on, he could punch through for 3 damage or trade with a 2-power creature. Alternatively, he'd be a great target for a Boon Satyr bestow with the trample. If I were to include him, I might cut a Surrak, the hunt caller and add a 24th land. The other thing is that I have a good amount of 3-drops, so I don't want them rotting in my hand because I've skipped to the 4-drops. I'd appreciate any input on ramp vs. increased aggression and possible late-game help...
Personally I like Avatar of the Resolute a lot. If your deck is consistently generating +1/+1, then it is an incredibly powerful card. Another thing to consider, looking at your deck, is the lack of protection from flyers early on. A turn 2 3/2 with reach can help keep you on your strategy piling pressure on your opponents quickly. Your deck isn't too dissimilar in concept from my earlier G/B deck that had a focus on +1/+1 generation and using the Formidable mechanic.
I don't think there is any reason to run Rattleclaw mystic unless you are running Deathmist Raptor. However, Den Protector might be really useful, as he would be nearly unblockable with Shaman of the Great Hunt throwing counters onto him.
Whisperwood Elemental might also be good to test, he is basically a rabblemaster in green. You don't get the pump ability of Rabblemaster, but in exchange you'll get some resilience against board wipes.
