True. Rhino always seems like a good call but he just seems so disconnected from the rest of the deck's strategy. Has he been effective for you?
He's been effective at helping to stabilize and be an additional threat. He's also useful if I don't get a Chromanticore in the yard before I need to play a soulflayer - For example if I have a Sylvan in there with the Rhino, I get a 4/4 Hexproof Trample for 2 - basically a tiny Sagu Mauler.
I'm probably going to cut Mantis Rider for something, I'm just not sure what. I've considered a single Stormbreath Dragon, as that is easier to cast than Rider and gives two of the three abilities. I'm basically just trying to have a Haste option in the mix, as I feel that's important when you're up against the ropes and want to gain life ASAP with the Chromantiflayer. I'm basically going for the BUG Shell as well, so I agree that Rider is too hard on the manabase. Stormbreath might be as well, but we'll see. I'll probably look to your manabase for some pointers.
Stormbreath is just as hard on the manabase IMO, and Haste while good isn't absolutely required I've found - because unless you're up against Burn your opponent has to attack you - in which case you'll gain life anyway.
I haven't lost a game for lack of haste in the 75.
Torrent Elemental is there as an additional creature/finisher late game since it can come down from exile
Yeah, I've been thinking of trying to fit him in... but not sure where yet.
me=lazy
yeah, with straight UB you go discard and counters. You can actually use Rakshasa's Disdain sicne you are fueling the yard
I've just shoehorned one Torrent Elemental into my main deck. It's good for those grindy matches where you can get recurring value from it. Against faster decks I board it out.
I like that idea, actually. I was testing against Mardu last night and Crackling Doom was beyond annoying. I could've beat three in one game, but then he played a 4th and there was no coming back. Obviously, I'm not likely to see 4 per game against them, but I'd rather not see any. I don't think the matchup would be hard at all if we were able to get rid of those. I think I'm going to try this as maybe a 1- or 2-of.
We have plenty of stuff we are able to cast at 6/7 (Silumgar, Sagu Mauler, bestowed Chromanticore), so I don't see it being an issue with Caryatid and convoke at our disposal. We have leftover Wayfinders, etc. able to aid in convoking it.
I saw a guy playing with a variant of Cromantiflayer on game day that used the Waste Not + Dark Deal combination. I know it would take up some of the removal slots that this deck type has, but synergy between soulflayer's delve and those two cards makes me wonder if it might be worth trying. Unfortunately Sidisi only cares about cards that move from your library to your graveyard.
I went to 3 stores to buy Chromanticores and they were all sold out, within the last day. Went to SCG and they were sold out. So must be people are checking this deck out, maybe it will see a rise in popularity?
Crackling Doom is indeed really, really annoying. Boy, as if that card was made to hose this deck alone. But I guess we have to swallow the bitter pill that you will run into it from time to time. Not worth dedicating any slots just for that as I don't foresee running into Mardu with CD that often..
On a side note, I tested both Silumgar, the Drifting Death and Sagu Mauler in the same slot and came to the conclusion, that Sagu Mauler isn't worth it. At first I wanted to try him out because he hits harder than Silumgar, which I had in the sb, but Sagu really is just a big dumb beater. Every time I drew him, I wished it was Silumgar instead. Sure, Silumgar is a slower clock, but you don't use him as your primary wincon anyway as often. And it doesn't really matter if you bestow a Chromanticore onto a Silumgar or a Mauler, you are pretty much set right then. The token kill ability is more relevant than I anticipated and additionally, a x/6 on the ground is much easier to kill by some blockers than a x/7 flyer (even without his -1/-1 shenanigans).

Mardu is pretty common in my meta, so I'm definitely going to try and find some copies for my sideboard.
I'll also be on the lookout for Xenagos, God of Revels to try instead of Pharika, God of Affliction - Xenagos seems way better to cast in a deck that makes 4/4 hexproof guys without haste, and is the main reason why the other Chromantiflayer deck I played against was so terrifying. The same person had Erebos, God of the Dead in his sideboard, which is probably better than the Thassa, God of the Sea I have in that slot - we have plenty of life and mana to spend on card draw, and stopping lifegain is very relevant.
Regarding Crackling Doom - run Negate in the SB? Should have U available by the time you have something you want to protect.
Regarding Xenagod - I ran him as a 1 of, there are times he is great but what I realized is that I would never be able to run on devotion with him. Erebos and Pharika are better aligned to what I'm playing for cards (even Pharika is hard to get online). But yeah, the haste and double strike is nice when it happens. He just doesn't do anything on an empty board where Pharika can at least make snakes.
Are most people using Tasigur? I'm running 2 but most of the SCG decklists don't use him.

I turn 3'd a chromantiflayer on the draw, he end of turned a crackling doom. I was sad. Playing around CD slows us down a lot.

Yeah, I'm not sure what to do with my God slot... I might run Xenagod just for the blowouts, but then side him out for something else.

I'm running one because my 4th Sidisi went MIA somehow... and he's a Japanese foil so he looks cool. But he doesn't work so well with the deck - does draw a lot of removal though.
Yeah - Pharika nuking their whip target and giving them a snake is fun. Had a guy call a Judge when I did that after he tried to whip a Rhino I had killed last turn.
I might mainboard Xenagod and move Pharika to the side - add Torrent Elemental to the side, use them for control matchups or other grindy scenarios.
I've seen a few lists running Swan Song, and I may try it as well. We obviously don't care about the drawback of giving them a flier, and it catches most of the problem cards.
Also, I've been testing 2 Flamewake Phoenix in the Mantis/Sagu slots, and I've really liked them. Provides early pressure and the recurring aspect is nice. It also grants Soulflayer haste if exiled. So far I've only tested Pharika, but I might give Xenagod a try.
Kekule_the_Magician on the inclusion of Devouring Light in a TurboFog Deck:
Quote from Kekule_the_Magician »
As a person who typically plays very creature oriented decks, I HATE when an opponent has Devouring Light. It is infuriating to finally get through with a creature on to have it exiled.
I've come to hate White in general now because it gets everything to the point where it is almost unfair. White has boardwipes (Wrath of God, End Hostilities), targeted exile and removal (Devouring Light, Banishing Light, Last Breath), lifegain spells, lifelink, low cost/high power enchantments and auras, flying creatures; my goodness what don't they get!?
So yes, Devouring Light is a pretty good choice.

Basic shell:
4 Taigam's Scheming
4 Dark Deal
4 Soulflayer
4 Tasigur, the Golden Fang
3 Torrent Elemental
3 Monastary Seige
3 Thassa, God of the Sea
Probably 4 Thoughtseize if I can get them today
None of the cards you listed have any real synergy with Soulflayer... I mean - Flying and Indestructible are it. Why bother?
I don't see Silumgar in his list.. I mean - yeah, it'd fit in UB but he didn't mention it.
And still, while it'd make for a very difficult to remove creature that doesn't mean it's the best use of the card.
I'm going to test out a tweaked manabase with Rhinos tonight. Gotta get things in order and be comfortable with this deck by this weekend.
It has the 4 Chromanticore

Not in the list you posted

Yes, even with the Convoke.
