UPDATE: Looking for someone to take over the thread. I apologize for it being out of date for a while. For now, here's a relatively successful recent decklist:
The great thing I noticed is if you attack with a Doom Engine while the Dictate is out, it's a guaranteed 12 to the face. Also Ensouled Ornithopter FTW.
I like the variants! I think these are all valid directions to take the deck, though Dictate is really slow and too cute IMO. I think really the only thing you need to keep in mind when building Affinity is that you need to have a clear game plan in mind. I left Darksteel Citadel and Ensoul Artifact out of my build because my game plan involved having a good late game (hence Chasm Skulker and Aggressive Mining) and having a good late game requires having a set of Mutavaults, but I'm going to test out a more explosive build. I'll put in a section in the primer about the two distinct categories of builds (the Darksteel Citadel/Ensoul Artifact decks and the Chasm Skulker/Aggressive Mining decks).
In order to write a primer you have to actually have a deck. Just because wizards has decided to tease an artifact theme for the next block doesn't mean there's a deck in standard of those cards alone. None of these lists look like they could take a game off any of the major decks in the format...

Alright, why don't you go test and prove it to everyone instead of providing actual criticism?

Theres only 7 artifact creatures in current standard with a converted mana cost 3 or less of which six have converted mana cost 3. That means that you need a huge amount of cards from M15 that don't exist in order to make this a viable deck against the current creature based aggro standard format. Why don't you do a little research into the cardpool before posting smartass comments?

Have you even looked at the current card pool? At least give an actual reason for calling a deck idea that a lot of people have had and have been testing with unviable. Also, try looking at the decklists on this thread. You'll find that they invalidate your entire point.
I just don't see how chasm skulker and agressive mining fit into the game plan. They work together but not with the rest of the deck. If we're going for a longer game I suggest a trading post engine with prophetic prism

Wow sorry, I guess I hadn't made myself clear enough. I love old affinity and I'm happy to make any sort of artifact based combo/aggro deck work, but theres a couple problems regarding the current card pool even with the addition of M15. In order to support as cool a card as Chief Engineer we require a lot of creatures in play with which to convoke, and the best creatures are ones we can use to immediately cast more creatures! So they must cost around 1 or 2 mana, with maybe a couple 3 drops. Browsing through the entire card pool, I just don't see enough 1 or 2 mana artifact creatures to make this a viable aggro archetype. Ensoul artifact and Shrapnel Blast are great helper cards to the archetype, but their synergy with Chief Engineer is highly mediocre. Phyrexian Revoker is an excellant card, but where it really shines is with Aether Vial, or any similar effect, and that also is missing. Apart from all that, Ornithopter is a fabulous card for the Archetype, but in the decks where it is at its best, 8 more ornithopter like slots are required to excel. I'd reiterate that standard is a highly aggro format, and while some type of trading post with proph prism might be viable, it would have to be very well equipped with cards like Anger of the Gods in order to compete, and that card sort of makes the whole aggro affinity plan moot. Hope that clears everything up!

Actually, aggro seems like a fairly good matchup so far, reason being that we can put them on the back foot early and then kill them with something like T4 Scuttles (which happens surprisingly often) or Ensoul Artifact. It also helps that aggro isn't particularly interactive, though Abrupt Decay is a pain. If aggro is giving us trouble, Goblin Kaboomist should help. I'm running it as a 2-of right now and it's actually really good.
This is my variant of Affinity-Burn. I don't really like Chief Engineer as it doesn't do anything Turn 2 and I want my deck to be aggro. The white is mainly for the SB as the mainboard is pure glass-cannon. I need to change a few numbers but this is just a rough draft.

FYI, you can tap creatures with summoning sickness for convoke, which is why Chief Engineer is so good. If you're in blue, you should probably be running it. Also, your mana seems kind of terrible. Other than that, your list seems solid.

The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realize it doesn't say anything it's too late to stop reading it....
