What about Xanthrid Necromancer to let you survive mass removal. Brain Maggot does nothing on the board, just gets killed and gives them their card back.
For me, I can't waste 4 sideboard spots for them, and Herald and Master are much better choices in the main.
What about Xanthrid Necromancer to let you survive mass removal. Brain Maggot does nothing on the board, just gets killed and gives them their card back.
They have to kill the brain maggot. The more maggots they kill, the more master of the feast they take to the face. There's also the numerous situations where the card locked under brain maggot no longer packs the punch it could have. Also, they have to kill a 1/1 that probably isn't even attacking. Most decks- particularly MBD- don't enjoy 1 for 1 with a 1/1. Worth noting, u/w hates them, and we want cards u/w hates.
Are they perfect for all builds in any meta? Nope. They've been great for me, though. Anyone else having success with them?

I'm tempted to try them. Maybe in the side instead of duress? I'm pretty torn.
Im interested in making my own version of MBA. Have you guys considered a green splash for Golgari Charm out of the sideboard to protect your creatures from wrath effects? Also Abrupt Decay can help fight troublesome enchantments/creatures.
The archetype seems very solid, consistent, and fast.
I'm very tempted by green splash. Golgari charm is so good right now. Just wins games, period. However, we can't afford temples in this deck. We'd have to suicide green in via conflux and overgrown tomb.

I gotta disagree, I think Temples are a must in this deck.
I went 2-2 last night, only losing in game 3 of both my loses on the last swings. I could've pulled it out, had I not got very land screwed each game, because i had my opponents down to lethal each loss.
It was very fun though. My loses were to RW burn and Junk. I had a bad misplay against the junk player that lost me the game... but all in all, it was a good time last night.
I really think 4 scry lands are a must to help thin the deck out when you're in land trouble.
4-1 and didn't have to play against control! The one game I lost I really should have won. It was a mono blue devotion deck that my local game store doesn't see very often. Had him down to 4 or 5 game 3 but Thassa just beats face when online.
I also won the door prize (6 JOU packs) and my fourth place finish netted me 4 more JOU packs, a Chandra and the Tormented Hero that I wanted so very very badly.
And, for anyone that hasn't heard so far, Spiteful Returned wins games, one of which I had no business winning.
I can't argue- against a lot of decks, Spiteful Returned brings the pain. All in all, I still prefer him main over Brain Maggot.. but it really shifts week to week.
Still wary of 4 temples. I mulligan aggressively and I really play the deck specifically to come out swinging. I definitely do not want to see a turn two temple, or two early temples. A turn three pain seer is not winning any games. I'm willing to test it, of course, just for the ridiculously good utility of golgari charm.. but I'm not hopeful about it suiting my play style.
this is what i have, would love to get Boon of erabos in there.
pulling bile for 2 scarhide when i get 2 more scarhide.
no mater how hard i try im just not feeling tormented hero but i may go with it 2/1 for one is good, and this feels like i need another 1 drop
went with nightveil over herald for a lil disruption and to make them chose between a 5/5 flyer that draws them cards or a 3/3 flyer that takes their cards.
temples are there mostly for scry but who knows may snag something with the nightveil

So I spent all of yesterday playtesting this build with a friend of mine who is going to GP Chicago with me this following month. For the record, he is playing U/G ... Monsters? I think that I would classify it as U/G Monsters. It's a homebrew that he made. But anyway, I played against this all day if it helps you understand some of my feelings regarding this deck.
So, personally, I am in love with Mogis's Marauder's. I really feel like he's a boon to this deck, as it helps you push for that extra bit of ground damage with the intimidate that he gives everyone. I don't know if I'd consider running less than 3 of him, as I was always glad to see him in my hand. Yesterday, he won me games. EDIT: And with Whip of Erebos as a 1 or 2 of, I feel like this guy might shine.
Second, the addition of Nighthowler is just something that I am testing. I decided that having my board wiped late game (which I know that we don't want to get into, but overall I felt like my games went into turn 6-10 more than I'd like) is crippling. I feel like he's decent recovery from a board wipe, and is a reasonably priced pump spell if you have a couple creatures already in your graveyard. That said, I probably am not going to have him in my 75, as the few times that I did have him in play I was pretty unimpressed with him. But hey, that's why we playtest right?
On Brain Maggot vs. Spiteful Returned, I'm really unsure as to which way I lean. I am flipflopping worse than a politician when it comes to these guys. On the one hand, Spiteful Returned helped me push for that extra damage that I needed, but at the same time, Brain Maggot is just excellent hand removal, and a lightning rod for punishment that would otherwise go to my 3 cmc guys.
After playtesting, I found out that Master of the Feast is really a superb card. The trade off is reasonable, and swinging for 5+ in the air is pretty awesome, creating a quick clock to close on the damage that you have already done. He didn't really blow back on me at all the whole time that I was playing him. I really need to have +2 more of him in my build, I believe.
When it comes to Herald of Torment, I dropped him down to 2 because I was starting to get a little worried about having a total of 8-12, 3 cmc guys in my maindeck. My thoughts are, when I did play him, I always wanted to play him out unbestowed, under which he felt a little underwhelming at times. I definitely would like to hear your guys thoughts on Mogis's Marauder vs. Master of the Feast vs. Herald of Torment, and what combination you prefer.
All of this being said (and I think that I touched on all of the major points that I wanted to mention), I am seriously considering a splash of either blue or white. I saw a really cool variant of MBA with a blue splash that added Duskmantle Seer for some more late game action, along with some more board disruption. And I am very curious about added Athreos, God of Passage and some other white utility. My only thought is that if I do, it's going to become a totally different deck entirely. But I'm gonna be honest: Supreme Verdict and Blood Baron of Vizkopa give me proverbial nightmares when I think about running this at the GP next month.

The benefit to running 4 Tormented Hero is that he is he can block, and the cackler and baby minataur can't. Also, if you bestow him with the Minataur, Spiteful, or Herald he deals 1 extra damage, and gains you a life.
Nightveil is only a 2/3, not a 3/3. You are also running a lot of lands, which is fine for your curve, but if you put the hero's in, you will probably want to drop down to 22 lands. Herald of Torment is fantastic in this deck because on turn 5 he can make add that extra damage to get through. Pain Seer is a good card for this deck because it helps get that extra draw.
OK bear i see that not being able to block early can hurt especially against another agro. gotta find room for hero. we'll try herald instead of specter.
i'm going to drop to 22 land and see how it runs, last week at FNM i got hit with a bad mana flood the last match (5 swamps in a row) ended up going 2-2 instead of 3-1 because of it

i was thinking something along those lines as well. Lifebane Zombie is good but if im not playing against G/W he is just intimidate and i get that from Mogis's Marauder. i was looking at Pain Seer but between thoughtseize Herald of Torment and it that is a lot of life loss with only devour flesh to mitigate it if i were to cast it on one of my own creatures.
one thing i saw earlier that id like to try instead of the rakdos shred-freak is bloodcrazed hoplite but for that i would definitely need boon and glee
my other problem is that im terrible at making a side board and deciding what to swap out and when

I cannot take credit for that list...lol, Tomaharu Saito posted it on Twitter among a bunch of other decks. I just copied it and took it to a 3-1. Last Friday, I put Spiteful Returned in place of Brain Maggot and I finished 2nd again with another 3-1. Lost to Mono Black Devotion AGAIN.

Maralen of the Mornsong B(Commander)
when i built this deck it was built withmogis's marauderin mind. last friday it was a real saving grace for it
shred freak i do have to pull though just not sure what to put in. needs another 2 drop though i see that. pain seer is good im just concerned with all the life loss it could mean. what turn does your deck typically get you a win at?because im noticing with magosi i find myself tring to hold him til 4th turn and get another 1 drop with him to make him effective with the haste.
I'm really excited to see this, and oddly enough a few months back (only about a week after the last pre-release) we helped a guy build a deck similar to this.
For some reason, I remember there being another Bestow/targeting spell, but for the life of me I can't remember it. What I CAN remember however is that it ran 4 mainboard Agent of the Fates. Shortly after it's creation I had to leave the state, so I have no idea how it played, but the main thing we were all telling him was he needed the Agents.
It's a 3/2 for 1BB. The fact that it has D-Touch means its more than likely going to take out anything that it runs into (save for f-strike, d-strike, and Indestructible). It also makes your opponent less likely to block unless the creature on their board is useless to them. Add onto all that the fact that, when you target it with the Bestow in the deck, it provides you removal? It just seems like a good inclusion, regardless of it's casting cost.

Agent of the Fates is terrible in this deck. Why you ask? Well:
Agent Of The Fates is a good creature, Deathtouch is good, killing creatures is good, The problem is the three spot is so crowded. Both Demons have flying which make them trouble for a lot of decks. Also Master Of The Feast is hard to burn out and Mogis Marauder makes every creature in the deck better. I have tested Agent Of The Fates and it's a good card but so is Lifebane Zombie it really comes down to space. If aggro takes off Agent will become better in the format. Lifebane Zombie will most likely Rotate opening some space.

First of all, here is the deck list that I am currently testing:
4 Tormented Hero
3 Rakdos Cackler
3 Gnarled Scarhide
4 Pain Seer
4 Brain Maggot
2 Herald of Torment
3 Master of Feasts
4 Mogis's Marauder

2 Ultimate Price
Land:
4 Mutavault
18 Swamp
And my 'board is ...
4 Doom Blade
3 Dark Betrayal
2 Devour Flesh
2 Bile Blight
(Definitely not optimized. I plan to add Lifebane Zombie and Xathrid Necromancer.)
So I spent all of yesterday playtesting this build with a friend of mine who is going to GP Chicago with me this following month. For the record, he is playing U/G ... Monsters?
Thoughts?
I'll comment more in-depth later, but the firs thing that jumps out at me is your curve. 18 three drops, 11 two drops, 10 one drops is definitely not ideal for this deck. Check out lovemeacombo's list from a page back for a solid curve example:
