I think -2 dreg mangler, -1 scavenging ooze, +2 varolz, the scar striped, +1 whip of erebos seems like a fair possbility.
My reasons are thus. Dreg mangler can punch through a lot of times but I think Varolz allows for more resiliency and more difficult to answer conditions with a pumped witchstalker or whatever. It also makes dead desecration demons come back as counters for lotleth troll, witchstalker, or whatever else your opponent is having issues with. Not to mention it survives supreme verdict, forcing the opponent to use a more suited removal.
The one scavenging ooze missing is to account for us wanting to eat our own grave a little less, making room for whip of erebos, a card that helps you stabilize against aggro. Instead of killing their creatures, you'll have margin to just attack or block and gain life, forcing them to deal with you instead of the other way around. It isn't bad in control either as they'll have to counter or destroy it unless they want all your creatures to recur again and again. So its no different from any other bomb card. Against midrange, the lifegain becomes relevant. So it has uses in all major matchups and has the potential to take the game away in others. As a one of, you'll likely be happy to see it when it comes, treating it more like an occasional treat as opposed a card to lean on.

I like these ideas. Do you think having that many 2 ofs will make the deck too inconsistent? I worry about dropping Dreg Mangler because he was an absolute house in the games I played last night.
I do want to play Varolz I think. I got 3 in the mail yesterday.
What about:
-1 Scavenging Ooze -1 Dreg Mangler, +2 Varolz and SB the Whip?
Do you think it is worth having both the Demons and the Reapers in there? I feel like the Demons are more of a threat, but the Reapers are harder to get rid of, so a 3/2 split on these generally produces me with something the opponent has to worry about by turn 4.
I feel like the demons are rather paramount for the task of facing other demons. The whip helps out the demons a lot.
One of my bigger worries for your deck is getting nailed by a fast anger of the gods and the opponent getting cheap, efficient stabilization. Varolz directly competes with dreg mangler in this sense. Dreg mangler is raw speed. Varolz is better for stabilization and against midrange. Varolz notably can gobble up your creatures to keep them from getting exiled and can make multiples "dodge" detention sphere by sacrificing the targeted one and thus saving the others. Its merely a tradeoff.
I also feel that the additions would support the demon for obvious reasons. The ability to scavenge desecration demons onto lotleth trolls or witchstalkers can get very annoying, very fast.
Having 2 ofs doesn't create inconsistency. It creates inconsistency in drawing those particular cards but your curve is left fairly untouched aside the shift of an ooze to a whip which isn't too ground shattering considering that the ooze requires more mana investment while the whip takes effect immediately.

Cool thanks man. That all makes sense. After running through some scenarios in my head, Varolz makes Desecration Demon very multi-faceted, and essentially a way to make my Lotleth Troll an absolute monster with only 4 mana.
After some play testing, I may try to add in my 3rd Varolz, but I always get wary throwing in more than two legends.
EDIT: Question about the bolded part above. Can Varolz trigger a sac of a creature without him actually needing to regenerate? That's what I gathered from what you said there.
It can. Regenerate simply means "the next time this card would be destroyed for any reason during this turn, instead remove all damage from it, remove it from combat, and tap it." It doesn't need to be being destroyed right at that instant.

That's interesting. So even if no damage is being dealt to him/he did not just die (and does not die that turn), I can just trigger that ability to sac a creature?
That's correct. If it is dead, it can't regenerate. Regenerate is just most often used in response to something that would kill the creature but the regenerate ability has to go on the stack and resolve first, preventing it from being destroyed. Hence why regenerate doesn't get stopped by exile upon dying like undying does. Most notably, it means that it will survive anger of the gods and sacrificing any creature that would die before anger of the gods resolves will mean they won't get exiled.

last friday I had 3-2 showing finishing tied for third. The decks I lost to was UW control and Boss Sleigh. Won against MUD and MBD. Yet those two decks beat the two that beat me. MUD and MBD tied for 1st. I know I can beat them, I just need to know how to tweak my deck to face off against the two I lost to.
Well, against mono black devotion, two cards to consider sideboarding would be bramblecrush and fade into antiquity. The reason is that black needs underworld connections and whip to function. Card advantage and stabilization. Bramblecrush can nab either but can also take out the land that connections is sitting on for 2-1 fashion that mono black will not like one bit... and can pop nykthos if needed. Fade into antiquity can take out both too but can also take out the gods. Pick to your taste but that would be suitable to help fight mono black. I personally prefer bramblecrush since it gives you anti-planeswalker tech that you're missing from not having hero's downfall.
Against mono blue, skylasher is a bit extreme but it works.
I know I am going to continue to Tune this deck for FNM.
Games played that gave me the win
Round 1 vs Boss Sleigh
I won 2-1 against this deck, Both games I won was due to Golgari Charm sweeping the board. Then Scavenging Ooze Stabilizing. Game lost was due to Muligan down to 4 and still no land.
Round 2 vs UW control
Won 2-0 This deck is the deck that beat me out the previous week. Due to the changes I made I was able to get Sylvan Caryatid down and enough ramp to drop a 12/12 Mistcutter Hydra that gave me the win both games.
Round 3 vs B/R Minotaur Tribal
Won 2-0 This shocked me to be so far along with no losses this deck didnt stand a chance and I seriously felt bad.
Round 4 vs Mono Black with a splash of Green
This was by far the longest match of the night for me but still pulled off a 2-0 win. Both games I was able to take care of his devotion enablers via removal, then Scavenging Ooze did work exiling all his creatures from his GY so that he couldnt reanimate them with the Whip. First Round was a close one until I stabilized. Second Round I felt bad for him as he got seriously flooded, Only spells he got his hands on was Alot of Removal. Gray Merchants and Underworld Connections but I had a turn 3 drop of Erebos, making it so he could no longer gain life. He stalled the game out quite a bit killing off every creature he could but his Underworld Connections killed him for the most part due to him not being able to Gain any life from the Merchants.
At the end of the night I was very happy with how my deck preformed, I feel like I played people that had the right decks to beat mine but my deck did all the right things and had the answers it needed.
A couple questions about your deck, if you'd be so kind:
1) How are the Dreg Manglers working out? I am actually taking mine out for Witchstalkers since the Stalkers seem harder for my opponent to deal with, but I am wondering how the plant zombies are working for you?
2) Are the Mistcutters relevant every match up? I am sideboarding mine, and will probably switch out my Reaper of the Wilds for them against UW, but I have considered mainboarding.
I guess I should point you into the direction of my Newest Decklist, The Dreg Manglers have been taken out for Sylvan Caryatid more times than not the Manglers were just blocking bodies that failed to preform most of the time.
The Mistcutters have been good finishers. The only matches I have not found them to be useful is when I have been starved for mana.
I have never had a problem with running 4 Oozes, The only problem I could see in the future is if I have to exile one of my own creatures, but I never do that I always Exile my opponents GY first to get the extra damage and help stabilize. I could never see myself dropping a Ooze as I am never sorry to see them in my hand.
I thought about running him but he has much more of a Aggro feel to him and My deck is more Controlling/Midrange. And for me to make use of his Abilities I would need to greatly increase my Creature count. As of right now I do not want to Discard any of my cards. Another reason why i didnt Make this deck into a Black Devotion with a splash of green. Pack Rats would be a Must have and I just didnt care for them.
Vraska gets used almost every time she is in my hand. Her -3 ability finds the most use as she is my Panic Button Removal. To this day I have ultimated her two times both resulting in a win.
For a deck like yours I could see Vraska being a more of a stabilizer than a Win Con.
Why not Wasteland Viper? (if you go the more aggressive route) I think its a great first turn drop that also has viability in the late game. It's also overflowing with flavor... Medusa and her minions coming to get ya :D.
For me, I would have no clue what I would drop for the One drop, as you said that is a step towards aggro. I have found that my deck works best as a Midrange/Control. Kill off all the early game with my removal then get to the point of winning with my huge creatures or winning with Vraska.
Out of my games that I have played I always had ether a Sylvan Caryatid in my hand for a early blocker or plenty of removal in my hand to build up alot of food for my Ooze to eat and stabilize with.
So I don't really know what to call this, Aggro I guess. Maybe Aggro with a slight hint of Control? WTF is between Aggro and Midrange? Whatever it is, it's that.
So far it is working well. Varolz just changes the state of the board so often. His synergy with Desecration Demon and loltroll is amazing. I mean, I sac DD to give my troll +1/+1, then pay only 4(!!!) mana to put 6 more counters on the troll thanks to Varolz. THAT IS BANANAS.
I like the deck alot, I would say it was more on the Midrange Side than aggro, as your big beaters are going to be played turn 4+ I agree that your deck can easily take off once you get Varolz out.
How helpful are the Oozes for you? do you find them helping you stabilize? If not I would consider dropping them and turning Varolz into a 3 count, then that gives you atleast one more that can go towards removal. As for Doomblade do you find Devotion decks to be active in your meta? The reason for my asking is if it is a thing it might be more beneficial for you to run Ultimate Price in place of the Doomblade, If Mono Devotion is not a thing in your meta I would keep it doomblade and make sure you have Dark Betrayal in sideboard.
A unsung hero of my deck is Golgari Charm I have been able to use all of its options atleast once in a match.

The Oozes are useful. I am never sad to see one for sure. I used to run 3 but I wanted to make room for Varolz. Both Varolz and the Ooze change the boardstate when they hit. The Ooze does stabilize me against Aggro and against Black Devotion with their whip (it was an all star when I played my buddy's devotion deck, he couldn't recur anything).
Doom Blade is working well in the Mainboard, and I will be sideboarding Dark Betrayal over Ultimate Price I think.
I was just looking up some recent events and a person placed 2nd in a MTGO event with a deck close to yours so you are going in the right direction
Awesome! The Fear the Reaper thread over in the Competitive forum has been helpful in building this. A lot of good ideas flowing in that thread as well as this one.
I after I posted I found the fear the reaper decklist, Im glad you found that, I dont know much about Golgari Aggro so I was just trying to help, its better to see the opinions of people who actually have play tested and worked out the deck.

3x Reaper of the Wilds
