This is from a week ago though so it might not be exactly what he's running at the moment. And yes Lifebane Zombie is yet another reason you should want to take out Reckoner in those matchups (on top of it being weak to their spot removal). Keep in mind this list is for the MTGO metagame, which might be a lot different than your LGS. Online the popular decks are mostly Mono-Black, control (U/W and Esper), Mono-U Devotion, and the mirror. Reckoner is pretty bad against Mono-Black and the control decks, and those make up about 30-40% of the meta.
Sideboard for your meta.... I ran 3 firedancer, 3 mizzium mortars. Firstblade is a house, against control and smaller aggro decks. I almost feel like it should be a 4 of, main board. It basically reads "1WR deal 4 damage to target player, prevent all the combat dealt target creature for 1 combat" Of course, sometimes you swing with it more than once. It is an amazing card.
So today I tested two ideas:
1. Keening Apparition over Cackler/Satyr in the board, which I haven't seen used anywhere
2. Young Pyromancer over Ash Zealot in the main, which is what Zem said he was running in the comments of his article one or two weeks ago
Preliminary Results:
* Usually Young Pyromancer is slightly worse than Zealot against everything on turn two and much better in the mid to late game.
* VS Monster decks, you can't kill fat blockers via first strike damage plus burn anymore. However you're better off if they have Caryatid because you can overwhelm it with tokens.
* VS mono-black control it basically blanks their demons and overwhelms their removal in the mid to late game. If you play it on turn two it's much worse because it'll most likely just die.
* VS Revelation-based control it can get out of hand really fast and force them to Verdict or D.Sphere or die. If they Verdict and you Charm they insta-lose. If they D.Sphere the tokens you can always just make more.
* VS Blue/Azorius Devotion because you can just burn away their cheap devotion cards and kill them with an army of tokens.
For keening apparition, I only tested vs Revelation decks and Hexproof decks because those are the only decks I bring Firedrinker Satyr or Rakdos Cackler in against.
* Against Revelation-based control decks, Apparition doesn't give you a 1-2 curve of drops. It's also harder to play early because it's white. In the late game though killing D.Sphere's can win the game. Also you can freely cast two Apparitions and not worry about the 2-for-1 with D.Sphere.
* Against Hexproof decks Apparition actually gives you a workable plan for victory. Basically you try to burn them out while preventing them from gaining life with Apparition and Skullcrack. If you can set it up and they don't draw a Chained to the Rocks to disrupt you, the plan works well. The racing plan works even better when you run Pyromancer because you can just keep chumping their hexproof guy with tokens as long as you can kill Unflinching Courage or Gift of Orzhova. With this sideboard plan I went 50/50 against Naya and GW Hexproof in testing. I only played ten games each though so maybe it's actually 6/4 or 4/6 and not 5/5.
Edit:
I also joined a small tournament with the same list with Pyromancers main and Apparitions in the board. Went 4-1 losing to Orzhov Midrange and beating Esper Midrange, GW Aggro, Orzhov Midrange and Esper Control. I won the games vs Esper Midrange and Orzhov Midrange on the back of Pyromancer. Against everything else it was no better or worse than Zealot. I brought in the Apparitions against Esper Control only, but I didn't have them on turn one and never had the chance to kill a D. Sphere with them. Basically they performed identically to Cackler/Satyr.
Top 8'd a 60+ player 1K today. Nothing really interesting to report, was trying out the version with maindeck Toil // Trouble. While I did kill someone by fusing it (cackle cackle cackle) overall I missed the tempo draws that having more creatures provides.
The best performing configuration of cards all day were the Assemble the Legion (for mono black) + Chandra Pyromanster (for mono black and Esper) package + 1 Mutavault in the sideboard; I was 6-1 post sideboard against these archetypes which means the plans were working excellently.
Going to grind with that version of the deck online this week to get better acquainted with it; will cover relevant dicussion points in an article published early next week.

Has anybody playtested with maximum temples in the mainboard?
I am just wondering how deep you can go with those, considering how well MBC and U/W uses eight temples+
Is that too greedy? Because I am thinking scry is the best thing for red.
I was also thinking when the next set comes out, that using the R/U temple will come hand in hand with having Turn // Burn in the mainboard.

The red mage lives by the variance and dies by the variance. May the variance be with you, always.
Its not too greedy its just too slow, bear in mind burn is still a red deck. The RU temple is still unclear simply because there arn't enough good RU cards that fit the deck yet, ral zarek and turn/burn etc are pretty underwhelming, need to see what keranos brings to properly mix blue. Only good card that I can think of right now is izzet charm...
Anyway I'm testing this list on paper, still loving the mainboard spark troopers

Getting back into standard and I've come to admire the Boros Burn deck currently getting jobs done all around in top 8's
and this is the current list I have with a few blank spaces in need of filling and some ideas I have that I'd like to know others thoughts on(due to not knowing the meta via firsthand experience and coming out of a 7 month break of magic.
few things that I've noticed about Boros Burn is I didn't see a single Boros Reckoner in any of the lists that top 8'd... is this because of Doom Blade, Heros Downfall, ect? I feel like the meta is slow and Reckoner could be great vs most of the decks aside from control.
I'm not sure if its correct for my to run a 2/2 split of Young Pyromancer and Ash Zealot but after spending some time on cockatrice its not completely stupid to do so this brings me to my main point of discussion for this post!
3/1 Haste, Tribute 2 if they don't pay u can cast a free spell and if they do you get a 5/3 haster for 4
In my testing I've found he is usually a 5/3 because everyone is afraid of Boros burn and getting a free burn spell is just too much
Am I crazy for thinking he could be a bomb for Boros Burn?

First match, B/R aggro, 2-0. This is a weird combination of RDW and mono-black. I won this matchup fairly easily.
Second match, R/W Burn, 0-2. I have no idea how to play R/W Burn mirror match. Looking for suggestions and advice on this. This matchup is so uninteractive. I can't do anything against the opponent's burn spells. And if I kill Chandra's Phoenix, he or she can just bring it back with another burn spell.
Third match: U/W Control, 2-1, drew a lot of dead cards turn 1 such as Searing Blood and Chained to the Rocks. Won both of the following games easily after sideboarding those out and sideboarding in Skullcrack and Rakdos Cackler. Also, successfully landing Stormbreath Dragon sealed the deal.
Fourth match: G/R Monsters, 2-0, G/R Monsters is the reason why I mainboard 4 Boros Reckoners

A 3/1 with haste should cost 2
So to get real advantage with him you have to cast something that is 3 or more, only Warleader's Helix comes to mind. This, and the fact that your opponent will choose what is better for him, keeps the card out of the deck (just my opinion).

:Current Decks:
Standard: UBR Grixis Control
Modern: U Merfolk
Commander: UB Wydwen, the biting gale
This has been my favorite deck of this standard, absolutely love it and it has led me to some great wins/top 8s. Starting to test out Burning Earth in the sideboard. Seems to be doing work for the SCG players and I could see it being an even better card against Esper to tax their D-Spheres/Counterspells. I am running into a bit of a dilemma though. I really want to put in my Satyr Firedancers again, but the only things I can see taking out would be Mizzium Mortars and Boros Reckoner. Any thoughts or reports on doing that?
Here are some videos of me running the T//T MD version of burn with 8 scry lands(I actually have a number of different burn variant and videos which I haven't posted here yet so please feel free to check them out):
SE Report (6981650)
G1 Dredge vs Angry Phoenix, Dancing Satyr (MDU) SE 6981650
G2 Dredge vs Angry Phoenix, Dancing Satyr (MDU) SE 6981650
G3 (Epic Rage Quit) Rw Burn (MASSTAR) vs Angry Phoenix, Dancing Satyr (MDU) SE 6981650
The last game was quite interesting (if the tittle didn't give it away), I don't think T//T over YP$ is correct now what Ux is back on the rise (I don't think it correct simply because Bx is still the top deck :P) but it does free up SB places which is good if your tackling a really deserve meta game.
I do have a sideboard plan with explanations written out - which I'll post either sometime after the sets are complete or if I get 9 new subs or 20 new comments from different people (yeah yeah, I'm fishing for higher view count - whatever works).
I think 24 lands is where you want to be main deck. I win many more games when i curve to 4 without missing a beat, allowing me to play 2 spells a turn. I make the 24th land the last extra mutavault, because i'm running the Young Peezy version, where having 2 red turn 2 isnt as needed. I think YP has been performing way better than Ash Z overall.
Ive been toying with 3 Boros Reckoner main deck over the 3 Shocks. Shock is terrible, i never want it except against stupid mana elves, which hopefully i have a Searing Blood for anyways. The extra creatures are nice, but sometimes BR under performs, too. I need to pay more attention to the spoilers and see if anything can help out in that spot.
Will burn be a thing in the next meta? Its hard to tell, there are some powerful cards being released...

I used to have 4 Boros Reckoners mainboard. It actually worked out pretty well because my local meta is full of G/R Monsters. However, the Mono-Black players at our LGS have started mainboarding Lifebane Zombie, which is why I have now relegated the Reckoners to the sideboard. You don't want the Reckoners to end up as collateral damage.

I'm considering putting the 4th Mutavault into the maindeck and running 24 lands too. I board in the Mutavault in seemingly every matchup as it is.
Anyways Shock is probably the weakest spell in the deck a lot of the time, however it's also our only 1 mana instant/sorcery which is very relevant for lists running Young Pyromancer as this enables the turn 3 play of Pyromancer + Spell to make a token immediately. Otherwise you have to wait until at least turn 4 to get immediate value out of your Pyromancers. I don't think Boros Reckoner is really where you want to be at all. Against aggro decks I'd rather just have more removal spells (I'm fairly certain 3-4 Mortars in the board is correct at this point) and against control decks he usually just eats a removal spell (and even if he doesn't he's basically just a centaur courser which isn't impressive anyways)
I do have a sideboard plan with explanations written out - which I'll post either sometime after the sets are complete or if I get 9 new subs or 20 new comments from different people (yeah yeah, I'm fishing for higher view count - whatever works).
I took out BO because YP$ does a good enough job at stalling creatures, I toss PE back into the board because I like the synergy with Dancer and PE vs Monsters (top it up with shock and almost everything dies). I also kept the dancer over 4 MM because Ux is making a comeback (I blame Sam P.) and finally I have 1x MM over the 4th dancer because sometimes that overload wins you games.
I would like Chandra back in the 75 but I'm not comfortable cutting WLH from the main or Glare from the side (those are the only reasonable cuts - unless I up the land count into 24 and cut both Bloods).
I’m 4x Shock to help against the mirror, BW and Ux Devotion MUs - I also felt that with the current top6 not running the 4x YP$ would be silly.
Top 6 decks in order:
1. Bx Devotion
2/2 (they're tied) Esper and Burn
4. Ux Devotion
5. BW
6. Monsters
Sideboard Plan (SBP) vs Top6 on MODO (Dredge has now replaced BW, but that is quite an easy MU)
Play
In: 2 Assemble the Legion, 1 Mizzium Mortars, 1 Chained to the Rocks, 2 Toil // Trouble
Out: 2 Searing Blood, 4 Shock
Draw
In: 2 Assemble the Legion, 1 Mizzium Mortars, 1 Chained to the Rocks, 4 Toil // Trouble
Out: 2 Searing Blood, 4 Shock, 2 Boros Charm
T//T is mainly in the deck for drawing extra cards which is why I believe two is the optimal number (its not likely you'll hit for 6-7 vs a deck chock full of discards), HOWEVER I'll run the full set of T//T on the play because YOLO
In: 1 Glare of Heresy, 4 Toil/Trouble
Out: 3 Chained to the Rocks, 2 Searing Blood
The main reason why Glare is in my SB over W//T is because I had one extra space left for the control MU - glare happens to deal with prime problems like FSP whilst not being dead since it hits Dsphere and Elsepth
Play
In: 3 Peak Eruptions, 4 Toil/Trouble
Out: 3 Chained to the Rocks, 4 Chandra's Phoenix
Draw
In: 3 Peak Eruptions, 4 Toil/Trouble
Out: 1 Chained to the Rocks, 2 Chandra's Phoenix, 4 Young Pyromancer
It really depends on what you see the Opp. runs on G2 if they have creatures bring in the 4th chains if not you can just next level them (either way YP$ is better on the play, phoenix is better on the draw)
In: 1 Mizzium Mortars, 1 Chained to the Rocks, 3 Satyr Firedancer
Out: 4 Skullcrack, 1 Young Pyromancer
I opted for 1 YP$ over Boros Charm because you DON'T want a hand FILLED with creatures in this MU.
Play
In: 2 Assemble the Legion, 1 Mizzium Mortars, 1 Chained to the Rocks, 3 Satyr Firedancer
Out: 3 Shock, 4 Skullcrack
Really depends on the version, if its Bw devotion (gary) just pretend its a Bx Devotion deck - if its the midrange version run with this plan
In: 1 Mizzium Mortars, 1 Chained to the Rocks, 3 Satyr Firedancer, 3 Peak Eruptions
Out: 4 Skullcrack, 4 Young Pyromancer
Or
In: 1 Mizzium Mortars, 1 Chained to the Rocks, 1 Assemble the Legion, 3 Peak Eruptions
Out: 4 Skullcrack, 2 Searing Blood
YP$ is better vs Jund while Dancer is better Gr

I think 24 lands is where you want to be main deck.
I've been on 24 lands with 4 Mutavault from day 1. I tried 23 lands for a week and wouldn't you know it I lost a couple of games to mana screw and had to mulligan a few one-land hands that would have been keepable if it had an extra mana source. I didn't notice it while playing but I keep track of mulligans and mana screw in my score sheet and noticed that they definitely went up while I was on 23 lands.
I do board down to 23 lands sometimes. Basically if I think that the match-up is unfavorable I will go down to 23 and try to get lucky.
Is anyone else feeling that Spite of Mogis could potentially be a better removal option, or additional removal option for us? MB/SB? I like Chained, but there are ways around it, and conditional on having a mountain. Smite works off our cards in GY.
First match: 0-2 against Mono-black, Thoughtseize and discarded my only Chain in my hand. Played Desecration Demon. Also got manascrewed.
Second match: 2-0 against B/W midrange. No idea what this deck is supposed to do other than the fact that it has Desecration Demon. Easy win.
Third match: opponent forfeited to get food
Fourth match: 0-2 against G/R Monsters. Got manascrewed both games. In the first games, I drew a bunch of taplands and Mutavault. In the second game, Temple of Triumph was my only land for like the first 4 turns.
Never keep a 1 land hand with Tapped lands, or Mutavault. I would almost say never keep a 1 lander in this deck. But if you are on the draw, and you have a great hand with some scry you make luckout.

The last game was quite interesting (if the tittle didn't give it away), I don't think T//T over YP$ is correct now what Ux is back on the rise (I don't think it correct simply because Bx is still the top deck :P) but it does free up SB places which is good if your tackling a really deserve meta game.
I'm now rank 33 on the ladder, I should get near 20-25 by the end of the week.

I do have a sideboard plan with explanations written out - which I'll post either sometime after the sets are complete or if I get 9 new subs or 20 new comments from different people (yeah yeah, I'm fishing for higher view count - whatever works).

4. Ux Devotion
5. BW
6. Monsters
Out: 3 Chained to the Rocks, 2 Searing Blood
The main reason why Glare is in my SB over W//T is because I had one extra space left for the control MU - glare happens to deal with prime problems like FSP whilst not being dead since it hits Dsphere and Elsepth
Out: 4 Skullcrack, 1 Young Pyromancer
I opted for 1 YP$ over Boros Charm because you DON'T want a hand FILLED with creatures in this MU.
Out: 4 Skullcrack, 4 Young Pyromancer
Or
In: 1 Mizzium Mortars, 1 Chained to the Rocks, 1 Assemble the Legion, 3 Peak Eruptions
Out: 4 Skullcrack, 2 Searing Blood
YP$ is better vs Jund while Dancer is better Gr

I've been on 24 lands with 4 Mutavault from day 1. I tried 23 lands for a week and wouldn't you know it I lost a couple of games to mana screw and had to mulligan a few one-land hands that would have been keepable if it had an extra mana source. I didn't notice it while playing but I keep track of mulligans and mana screw in my score sheet and noticed that they definitely went up while I was on 23 lands.
I do board down to 23 lands sometimes. Basically if I think that the match-up is unfavorable I will go down to 23 and try to get lucky.

Went 2-2 at FNM on 4-25-14.
Cumulative record to date: 8-3-1
