It's been a while since I played any magic at all, and now I feel kind of wanting to get back into the move. Currently I have some not so game deciding cards, but they could be of help when deciding which path could I follow to complete a standard deck that could be competitive enough not only for FNM level, but also for some more ranked events.
Here's a list of what I own:
4 killing wave
4 ravenous rats
4 sign in blood
4 gravecrawler
3 desecration demon
2 mutilate
4 geralf's messenger
4 duress
4 tormented soul
4 demonlord of ashmouth
2 barter in blood
4 cavern of souls
4 vampire nighthawk
What I was wanting to build, looking at the actual spoilers, was something related to orzhob colours, 'coz I saw some cards with much potential, but I don't know if that could be a smart decision, seeing that I completely ignore what the metagame has to offer right now, so I'd like to get some help deciding what to do:
-Use some of the above cards and build something already tested and competitive?
-Sell or trade the above cards and start in a diferent direction?
-Any other advise?
I'd pretty much like to conserve the black colour, no matter what combination the deck could have, but if you consider that there are other "black-less" decks with more potential, I'd like to consider them as well.
Thanks in advance for all your kind replies, and much useful help
2. Trade away your 8 Zombies (Crawler and Messenger)and the 4 Cavern of Souls, and build some sort of black based control (you could go Bw) with Mutilate, Desecration Demon, and Vampire Nighthawk. Costs about $80 for the lands alone, but the rest of the deck is cheap and you can use your zombies and caverns for about $160 in trade fodder.
hummm...BR 'd be the fastest option yes, and I already considered it, but I dont know how does it develops againts other decks, mainly control.
The other option of making BW controlish or midrange deck, I was thinking in something like that, but it could be not as solid as the now competitive decks around.
I'm in a similar boat. I'm considering getting back into standard in paper. Personally I am waiting to see what shakes out after Gatecrash and seeing what catches my eye. In the meantime you could look around for a black list and see what you can put together for the time being.
Decks posted above looks not bad, I had been thinking on something similiar as those with the actual cards we got, but.. I am not sure how competitive they could be outside FNM events
If you're not committed to a format and almost starting from scratch, I would skip standard and look at Modern or Legacy
There are almost no modern, even less legacy events here, only thing left for me is to build a strong deck that can survive fairly well not only for FNM but for more ranked and important events, which is my main interest here... starting from scratch is not a major problem I suppose

Waiting and seeing "what shakes out" after gatecrash means cardprices would go up a lot more, which is what I intent to avoid o_o
I wouldn't bother with BR zombies. Might be good for FNM, but it's about to be much worse of a deck after gatecrash officially releases.
After reading a bit on some threads, yes, BR zombies seems a deck not much brighter future sadly :/ thats why I feel like giving a chance to other options
from your card pool it seems as though you should go the route of Red/Black zombies which is very competetive.. although you will definitely need quite a few more cards Especially Dual Lands
EDIT:
FYI B/R Zombies Made It To The Finals in The SCG IQ This Past Weekend Going Undefeated Only Losing To Naya Humans

not saying zombies isn't competitive now. It is still a good deck, but after gatecrash gets moving then it's going to fall out.
Just don't want to see the guy spring for hellkites, aristocrats, etc. and end up playing esper after zombies goes dead.

Big thanks to DarkNightCavalier from heroes of the planes studios for the sig!
Espyr control is looking like the potential up and coming deck to beat, it has answers to everything, though I note that it will use very few of the cards you've listed.
I'm personally looking to do UB control but that's due to a personal foible, whether it will actually be as good is another matter.

I'm a control player, because I like to reserve the right to say no.
I don't get why anybody would suggest to not invest in Thundermaw Hellkites. This card is still going to be very strong in the format. As long as Hellrider continues to be good, Thundermaw will follow suit. And the way things are looking, Hellrider is going to be excellent moving forward.
I've played an Orzhov deck with Demonlord of Ashmoth and Sorin/Lingering Souls and the 2 1/1 discard guys and lilianna and moonsilver spear. It was alright. Definitely FNM worthy.

Best regards.
1. Play Br Zombies, with Gravecrawler, Geralf's Messenger, Falkenrath Aristocrat, and burn. Decently competitive, but costs about $150 to finish the deck.
You could build something like this:
4 Isolated Chapel
14 Swamp
4 Plains
4 Lingering Souls
4 Desecration Demon
2 Obzedat, Ghost Council
4 Sign in Blood
4 Mutilate
3 Orzhov Charm
3 Oblivion Ring
2 Tribute to Hunger
Look up some lists to finish it out.
The other possibility would be to sell off the zombies and go B/G control or something similar.
The other option of making BW controlish or midrange deck, I was thinking in something like that, but it could be not as solid as the now competitive decks around.
4x Thrill-Kill Assassin
4x Vampire Nighthawk
2x Bloodline Keeper
1x Bloodgift Demon
1x Necropolis Regent
4x Duress
4x Sign in Blood
4x Tribute to Hunger
4x Mutilate
4x Increasing Ambition
3x Curse of Death's Hold
2x Ultimate Price
23x Swamp
Sideboard
4x Cremate
3x Knight of Infamy
2x Cavern of Souls
2x Elixir of Immortality
2x Murder
2x Pithing Needle

I am interested in invest on whatever gives me good results you really think esper could work fine? UWB is a combination I really like a lot!

Because we care about facts.
