Summary // Questions:
- Do we need a 4th Warleaders Helix in SB?
- What do you think about Serenity Angel as a 1-of SB Slot?
- How do you feel about Aetherling vs. Assemble? Is it more of "vs" or do you think there can be an "&"?
-I don't use the 4th Helix personally, but I can see it being worth it for the aggro matchup.
- I have 2 Assemble "&" 2 Ætherling.
- I had been thinking about either AOS or Aurelia just as a suprise bomb that wouldn't be expected. I saw someone use AOS in a UW list and it seemed to be effective.

do you have 2 elspeths and 2 jace memory adept as well?
well if i play 1 angel of serenity id probably only use it for jund/Gx matchups
Playing this deck is a lot fun. Sometimes you play like an aggro deck and sometimes you end game with a huge revelation. And you can play like a pure control deck sideboard. I think Assemble the Legion is not a good main deck card now, it's too slow in many situations.
Looks fun, similar to the list BBD posted a little bit ago. Looks like it would wreck against aggro, how are your control match ups?
Unluckily this deck fold to Esper pre board too. But it's an easy win post board beacuse I take out nearly all the creatures and the match usually ends in a draw. It's also difficult to beat MonoU. But it can beat MonoB and GW easily.
This deck looks like beating aggro easily but actually it really depends on how many removal you draw. I found I often lose to aggro because drawing too many lands. But when you have the right draw, aggro have no chance.
BBD's deck inspired me a lot but I think his list has too many lands. Jace helps a lot here.
I'm thinking drop Soldier of the Pantheon main and put in more burn spells which helps MonoU match up.
Staticasters are a recent inclusion due to the flood of x/1's. Ral Zarek is a 1-of as I only have 3 AOT, but he actually does some good work (he is a lot of fun with trading post and staticasters). I have been considering turning those 2 negates into 2 more counterfluxes.
So, it seems like everyone at my LGS is stuck on hero's downfall decks. In that vein I've been considering 'boarding up to 3 prognostic sphinx as a way to close out against them (primarily esper and mono b). Anyone have any thoughts or testing towards that end? I still don't think it's that great of a card, but it's better than 6 mana for 3 1/1s.

Why not board into 4 Assemble the Legion? I don't like the Sphinx against Control because you generally want every card you draw post-board, and against Mono-Black, it just doesn't do enough imho.
I threw one Heliod into my SB as another threat in the control mirror that is hard to deal with. I found often times I'm usually on 13+ lands and it helps at least give me one more diversification against Slaughter Games and Grixis lists that seem to be popping up a bit more in my meta.
I don't know how folks are having trouble with the Mono-Black MU though...We have lifegain, reach (to make their UC's worse), and inevitability with Assemble and Aetherling that they have no answers for once they land. As for Elspeth...you can decide to take her out if you want, but at the least she provides some chumpers or can take out a horde of Rats or DD. There's not a MU where I ever board her out to be honest.
PS: I'm also surprised few of the lists run Chained to the Rocks. The card is amazing, and going to 27 lands with 11 mountains is actually pretty good.
I thought about 4 assemble, but there are a few problems I need to figure out. Gotta find the space, first and foremost. The other large problem is that against Esper they still have spheres to answer back. That's not the be all end all of it, but two things I need to overcome. I do like the sound of 4 assemble vs mono b though...

I ran the sphinx for a bit before I had the rest of the deck assembled and he was rather effective but I haven't tried it again in awhile. Ætherling is your hard to kill creature and he dodges verdict also. I would rather just have another Ætherling most likely, unless pithing needle is an issue.
wear // tear has been indispensable in the control mirrors. being able to take out detention spheres and pithing needles is helpful. the unfortunate thing about assemble the legion is that as soon as it gets sphered it resets.
and I agree with Aegraen about sphinx. cards are too valuable in the control matchup. With that said, I do want to try sphinx more, because it seems like a real sleeper. Scry 3, flying, and pseudo hexproof on a bulky dude is pretty great.
I have a list that I have been playtesting for the past month or so that is radically different than any of the other UWR lists around. It might seem a little strange but it was originally brewed when aggro was all over the place. It falls somewhere between UWR control and Brad Nelson's naya control deck. It completely crushes aggro and is significantly faster than any other control deck I have seen.

Since we are talking about some flyers. What are your guys' thoughts on Stormbreath Dragon? Perhaps a possible SB card?
Also, I used to play Sphinx in my grixis deck and he was pretty sweet, but fairly slow. The scry 3 was awesome and the pseudo hexproof was alright. The discarding kinda sucked. The only problem is you can't really be pitching lands for the hexproof when running Rev, seems counter productive. I did learn when playing him that you need to know when to let him die so you don't discard too many cards. He's not a game winning card that must be protected the entire game so he may end up being card disadvantage for you if you continuously pitch cards. If him and aetherling are your only creatures he will be taking most, if not all, of the kill spells causing you to discard to keep him around.

I play three in my SB - he is amazing finisher, and we can usually monstrous him with ease for additional impact. I love the card.
What matchups would you bring the dragon in for? It seems like just another finisher in addition to Elspeth, Assemble, and Aetherling.
Generally any match up that in non-black. It is a faster clock than Elspeth & Assemble and I have even had success vs Esper, due to them tapping out turn 4 for Jace, and boarding out all other removal other than Hero's downfall.
I am currently tweaking a r/w control list that splashes blue for sphinx's rev and supreme verdict, and black for slaughter games. I use turn 1 and 2 to cast traveler's amulet or drop a transguild promenade. I play anger of the gods and supreme verdict, as well as magma jet and chained to the rocks.
My win condition is assemble the legion or Elspeth. 2 Slaughter Games in the main and 2 more in the sideboard helps me to deal with the mirror and other control decks. Sphinx's revelation does what it usually does.
Against devotion decks anger of the gods and supreme verdict are usually powerful enough. Against r/x aggro it can be dicey but it helps to have all the sweepers in the main. Against other control decks i feel as if i've got an advantage due to slaughter games.
But i'm not usually a control player so i'd like to hear opinions.

My Decks:
Innistrad-RTR
UWR Flash: 7-1, 1 FNM Win-A-Box
Rakdos Aggro: 20-8
UW Flash: 11-5
Boros Aggro: 3-1
Jund: 42-12-3, 4 TNM Win-A-Box, 2 Koopa Standard IQs, Gatecrash Game Day Champion, M14 Game Day Champion
I am trying to finalize on what I'm going to go with at GP Dallas. I've decided to stick with UWR Control, even though Esper and UW are putting up better results. Which is probably a bad idea on my part, sticking with UWR and all, but I haven't played enough MTG recently so I'd rather go with the color combination that I'm most comfortable with. Hoping for input on my somewhat theoretical decklist. I'll probably put in a few matches in on Thursday and Friday if I get the chance.
Maybe the 1 Counterflux main should be a 4th Dissolve. It's probably best if I have counterspells with easier mana requirements in G1. Especially since my red mana isn't that great.
Not sure about two Ratchet Bombs in the side. Though I still want at least one, for Mistcutters, and it's a pretty reasonable card against midrange decks that give you time to tick it up. Also solid against control.
Last Breath looks really good right now, as it hits a lot of relevant creatures in Mono-U, while also being strong against aggressive aggro decks.
Mizzium Mortars is probably pretty similar to Last Breath. Handles lots of similar creatures. Just wondering if anyone else thinks it deserves a slot.
Dropped Jace, Memory Adept. Figure that another Assemble the Legion in the side is better. Has game in control mirrors and does well against Mono-B Devotion. Feels like a good card in the side.
Anyhow, I probably need feedback on my sideboard. I feel pretty good about the main, but not sure if the sideboard is where it needs to be.
[Edit]Should I consider Stormbreath Dragon in the side? Pack Rat and Archangel of Thune did work in GP Vienna for UWx decks, since it sneaks past Gainsay, and since most decks will side out removal in G2. Could see dropping a Ratchet Bomb for a Stormbreath, but not sure.
I took your suggestion Tehuti. I want to share what I've got. It's a little different but it's been working alright in the tests that I've given it. I'm leaning more red and using anger of the gods of course, but I'm also using Riot Control. I feel that Riot Control is extremely under-appreciated right now. It's very swingy against most of the decks that are big right now. Against devotion decks it counters Gray Merchant or Mogis Fanatic. It buys two turns against any big threat and more than that against groups of smaller threats.
You'll also note that trading post fits perfectly and does a great job of greasing the wheels.
Oh you're right. I've used it against Fanatic often enough and I just assumed that the Gray Merchant also deals damage.
Stupid weasel-worded card.
Well is mono-black devotion a difficult matchup? What game do they have against us aside from hoping to thoughtseize away some of my stuff? Not much I'd think.
I want grim lavamancer in standard, because that makes swan song playable, and I hate thoughtseize. That is all.
Thoughtseize is definitely annoying. My strategy is to try and overload it. Make them want to take almost every card out of your hand at any given time. Side in more win cons; that's usually what I end up doing.

Well, I decided to put this deck together, for my local shop's Super Fnm. I haven't really played since before innistrad rotated out(UWR was my favorite deck then), so I wasn't sure what deck I wanted to play with the new theros cards. Anyway, I felt comfortable with UWR, despite people telling me that the deck isn't very strong right now. But after tonight's FNM, I disagree strongly. Although I just missed out on Top 8(59 players...I finished 9..bad breakers) I felt this deck was extremely solid, and at least gave me an opportunity to win each match. Here was the deck I sleeved up:
I lost to the green devotion deck splashing red for the planes walkers.(I played this deck twice tonight, two separate players.) And the matchup seems about 50/50. I crushed the 1st player, and the 2nd player beat me in games 2/3. Game 2 was very close, and game 3, I got stuck on 4 lands. I'm thinking about cutting either renounce the guilds or mizzium mortars for 1-2 copies of cyclonic rift, that see like it would swing that r/g matchup into our favor.
I also beat mono black, and white weenie with relative ease.
I think this deck has serious potential, and I'm going to continue playing it. I felt like the deck at least gave me an opportunity to win every game I played.
27 lands might not be correct, and I do go down to 26, I would cut an island, and add in either the second assemble, the 4th azorius charm, the 4th omenspeaker or a second syncopate. But 27 was good for me all night, I never flooded, hit all my land drops(with the exception of that one game) I also never had to mulligan tonight, the deck has so much variety for things to do in the early turns.
Sorry if my post seems like a big rambling on, I'm tired and posting this from my cell phone, I'll fix any mess ups later.
