In a Control deck. I've had people tell me that Havengul Lich shouldn't be in anything but heartless because he just has lots of synergy there. I'm not going to disagree on that. I personally think that he can give a control deck a great advantage in allowing you to reuse your threats like Thragtusk in a BUG Control deck or even reusing Snapcaster over and over again to give your more and more answers for their threats. Or with Chromatic lantern you can use your opponents graveyards as an additional resource to use.
So I want to see what you guys think about that. And will do you guys think there will ever be a tier 1 Control deck using it cause it is so versatile. ( might not be he right word to use there )
I've also been using a BUG deck that in probably gonna play at any tournament until dragon's maze.
Re clear theboard and get plenty of drakes. Massive board swing, works really well late game because the lich gives dead snapcasters even more uses.
Really an excellent card even without heartless.
However, I don't recommend more than 2 in a deck. Kind of a dead card til at least 6 mana or more with a useful graveyard. Still very powerful graveyard shenanigans.
It's not so much the synergy within HS builds that makes Lich appealing but rather how much more efficient HS makes him. If it weren't for the discount, it'd take far too much effort to get him online IMO.
I won't pretend I know exactly what control wants since I'm not a control player. However, I do get the feeling that control can do so much more with five mana. I also don't see much upside in playing Lich an extremely creature lite list.
Ultimately, I can see a singleton being splashed for late game shenanigans but I would hate to draw him at any other point in the game. Do you have a list in mind?

This is the deck I've been playing for the past month. Still working on it.
