Why? because, like the best of them say. you're not casting polymorph, unless you can counter w/e they plan on doing to stop you from morphing.
which means, t3 polymorph is not really worth it...is it? why do it if its not guaranteed?
sure, we could add in EIGHT more control card, like some deprive, or spell pierce, more ITR.....anything, im not sure, all im saying is, it don't make sense to t3 poly, when 3 of the 5 colors can instantly stop it, ruining ur whole game plan.
red, white, and black...playing against any of these colors, odds are, if its turn 3, they are sitting on a bolt, a pte, or disfigure or waiting to kick a gatekeep or fleshbag...
1. We are running 8 taplands
2. Turn 3 Jace is one of the best play's you can get...in almost any match-up.
3. Turn 3 Garruk means a turn 4 morph WITH counter back-up.
4. Lose the ramp, and Deprive gets A LOT worse (bouncing a Garden/Depths basically costs you TWO land drops)
5. Turn 3 morph isn't always safe...but t4? t5?
You can cut the ramp if you want to, but i think it's foolish. Look at the successful lists of late and ask yourself a question...did they think ramping was unnecessary?
Like Kenji said..
Because of the ramping, we typically have more mana than opponents and can therefore control the board better, especially if they can't tap out!

how was your point proven? everyone told you ramping is good because it allows a t3 jace or a turn 4-5 polymorph with negate backup which is still rather sexy in the current metagame. or if your opponent doesn't see it coming and does something silly like tap out on turn 2 for whatever it is that they do (Mythic and jund have some face smashing turn 2's they can do) then by all means combo out and win the game. they won't make that mistake again.

I believe he meant that my counter-point was proven;)
yeah, actually i meant, i understand dyadya's logic. he proved his point.
BUT after playing last night...it just seems like, now, maybe we dont need 8 ramp effects, maybe take out 2 of each? 2 rampants and 2 explore, for maybe 2 see beyond, and 2 spell pierce?

I run 4 Explore (card advantage and allows you to drop nonbasics) and two Rampant Growth for consistency. That way I can make room for one of my favorite fringe cards in the deck... Reality Spasm. Serious tap out power to ensure nobody O-Ring/Journey or casts Day of Judgment on us after we Polymorph.
No ramp is counterintuitive. You win a lot of games on t3 by polymorphing into Iona, and without ramp, a lot of your other cards gets weaker, especially Deprive.
Also, why is a T5 morph any better than a T3 morph? Waiting turns only gives your opponent time to find mana in order to play instant speed removal and counter your engine.

i know hes good, but you dont have to quote somthing that is common sense.
ive found that ramping up is essential and the deck will be crippled without the mana do dishout a mid game morph with counter backup, i personally like at least 2 counters and usually sit on a deprive/ negate and a spell peirce because often you'll have to deal with removal in response and then later on either a wrath or a walker like jace or sarkhan dropping down to stop you
