Gideon might be overrated - he should be extremely highly rated, but he's not exactly universally awesome. He's not great against Control (though far from a dead card) and I'm not 100% convinced he's awesome in most Control decks - if I draw him I'll play him, obviously he advances my board, but I think I can find better cards from X/W/x control decks, Planeswalker Control aside.
That said, in a metagame which is mostly creatures fighting creatures, he should dominate.
over-hyped: all the mythic rares except maybe Kargan Dragonlord, for whom $9-10 preorder prices seem reasonable... oh yeah and Momentous Fall
I don't think Realms Uncharted is that over-hyped because it may have applications in Naya and Bant, which are good decks as it is. Heck, it could be decent in Jund as a 1 or 2 of.
possible sleepers: preorder prices are always as high as a card value goes, so I don't believe in "sleeper rares"
Sphinx of Magosi is fantastic. A 6/6 flyer for CMC 6 that also says draw cards somewhere on it is good. I couldn't believe how cheaply this is selling for. Don't give me the, "it dies to stuff" argument because it's lame.
Lightmine Field is great, and it was given to us in the same set as a same-color Wall of Blossoms? This way they have to attack with more guys to get any damage through. Just makes it better.
Training Grounds I feel will make some card or cards silly in the near future. I like the idea of a Sphinx of Magosi in play so I can U: Draw a card.

"I finally figured out what One With Nothing is good for!" says Paul. "Oh yeah? What?" comes the reply. "It comboes with Tarmogoyf!"
True story...
Overhyped: Momentous Fall - Yeah, it's CA, but it's both expensive and situational. Gideon Jura - He's good, but hardly the #2 best walker. Vengevine - Doesn't actually fit in Jund. To be useful, a deck needs to be built around him I think.
Underhyped: Tuktuk the Explorer - Resilient deterrent. Not a 4-of, but I think a lot of decks with red will put 1-2 of him in. Devastating Summons - I think this could be a finisher in some decks. Khalni Hydra - An 8/8 trample that I can theoretically play on turn 3 with mana to spare for Vines of Vastwood? I call that potential.
Overhyped Gideon Jura: He might be good, bus he's not as awesome as Elspeth and certainly not worth over $30.
I don't know why people keep saying this. I have literally never seen anyone say that he was better than Elspeth. Just that he is very strong.
I think the most overhyped card in the set is Wall of Omens because everyone keeps claiming it will completely reverse the matches against Jund singlehandedly and that it will change the entire standard format more than any other card in the set. That is just rediculous.
I dunno. Wall of Omens is pretty damned good against Jund. It's cheap, it cantrips, and blocks thrinax and BBE all day long. If it eats a removal spell, fantastic!
Only thing that's a real problem is leech. Leech is the easiest Jund creature to deal with, though. Heck, you can keep it from being a serious problem just by hovering your hand over an untapped plains or mountain and asking your opponent if he wants to pump.
I think Consuming Vapors will be a $10 rare eventually. It will go in Jund, Vampires, and pretty much any other deck running black. It's just too versatile. It gets around shroud (Sphinx), protection (Great Sable Stag), and indestructibility (Thornling, Ulamog).
Oh, and by the way, it gains you life and you can play it again for free.

I don't like how vengevine forces you to overextend.
It doesn't force you to overextend. It can actually have quite the opposite effect by recurring the same card over and over. Build around card, obviously.
It doesn't force you to overextend. It can actually have quite the opposite effect by recurring the same card over and over. Build around card, obviously.
I don't think that you need to build around Vengevine to abuse him. All you need is to put this card in ANY aggro deck which can be able to play at least 2 creatures a turn to abuse his ability. Casting him wouldn't be that bad either coz he has Haste, and if you opponent kills him with Bolt or DOJ, next turn just play 2 creatures to get them back to the Battlefield again. Vengevine works better in Naya since it has Ranger of Eos which nets you 2 creatures, for Jund I am not sure since they usually play 1 creature a turn.
#1 - What's the dumbest idea you ever had?
#2 - 15/15 for 15?
#1 - Make it dumber
#2 - Give it protection from removal and counter?
#1 - DUMBER!
#2 - Add Timewalk?
#1 - DAMN IT MAN, I SAID DUMB!! DUMB !!!
#2 - It destroys everything when it attacks.... And wait, I have a friend who plays mill decks... I want to beat him too.
#1 - Excellent! Recess is over, go back and learn sex-ed with the other 6th graders.
I don't think that you need to build around Vengevine to abuse him. All you need is to put this card in ANY aggro deck which can be able to play at least 2 creatures a turn to abuse his ability.
then you're actually trying to build around him since you need: a.)an aggro deck, and b.)you need the ability to play 2 creatures a turn. that's exactly building around him.
anyway, these are my choices, not in any specific order:
sleeper: devastating summons, awakening zone, kor spiritdancer, lightmine field, and ulamog, the infinite gyre. (yes, ulamog.)
overhyped: gideon jura- not abyssal persecutor hype, he'll settle around 2-25 bucks i reckon momentous fall- just don't like the card, it's bad for me student of warfare- solely because naya will have a hard time using him. he's good though. kargan dragonlord- it seems that only RDW is the only deck that can fully utilize this card, and even then it doesn't look too great for me. a late game solution, maybe. but it won't give RDW that edge. vengevine- great card, a step up from bloodghast to say the least, though it's not as amazing as some might think. it fights with BBE as a turn 3/4 drop for boss and jund. which kinda makes it meh. it looks more at home in a r/b aggro deck. realms uncharted- same as vengevine. great card, but it's kinda too deck specific for me to consider it an amazing card.
so easy to fill this part out. gideon is so over hyped and so is vengevine. vengevine is the new talaras batallion and gideon is just seen as amazing becuase hes a new white PW.
as far as a sleepers, i have high hopes for kor spiritwalker. the umbras are insane and the combo is defintaly over looked.
I gotta agree that Tuktuk the Explorer could be a bit of a sleeper in standard. It's a solid pinger/beast goblin for 3 that helps mono-R handle the Firewalker.
momentous fall is super-ovverated (unless you play it on abyssal persecuter). it's a dead card until one of your fatties is going to bite the bullet, and the mana would be better spent on a garruk or vengine
I am not saying anyone has said it is better than Elspeth, but it's prices have gone far higher already. Which is just asburd.
It's not a weak card, but a bit too situational.
It's price deserves to be higher now. It is a highly sought after card and there are extremely few of them in circulation. Supply and Demand.
Once the set is actually out and people start opening them and they become more available, the price will fall.
I think the sleeper cards are going to be the creatures that make spawn tokens. A 4 cost 3/3 that makes 2 0/1 tokens seems pretty good. Especially considering you can use the tokens to make mana.
My friend let me play with his 2 Transcendent Master that he got from his pre-release booster packs and they are exceptional late-game as a finisher. They do attract removal, but if you're playing Emeria, the Sky Ruin, all the better.
Drana, Kalastria Bloodchief - I can see this as a maindeck card and moving the Bloodwitch to sideboard for white match-ups. Honestly I would rather have her ability to hose creatures and swing harder than to have a 2-4 point drain life at the most. I think its probably better in the Jund Match-up which is the worst and most played one.
Awakening Zone: Come on guys. Seriously, the lack of mentioning this card astounds me. This is a card that has to be answered or allows some serious ramp or chump blocks all day. If it wasn't for Jund I would say Eldrazi ramp would be viable in tournament play. As is now, I just think Jund has too many answers.
My Overhyped:
Kargan Dragonlord: I hear nothing but praise for this guy when the only possible spot for him really is in RDW or RbDW and I just think there are better options to run than him. Is a pretty nice top deck if you are top-decking (dead RDW) though.
All is Dust: Sure this does give an answer to G and B not having board sweep but Elfdrazi does not want this card. Vamps also does not want it. I would rather run DoJ in U/W and thats the only real control deck out there.

Shhhh! Be quiet, we don't want to let on about it too early, I want mine cheaper dammit :D.
Beyond that, there are a number of interesting cards that will take people by surprise. I have a feeling someone's going to do interesting things with Echo Mage before too long, maybe by SoM.
Hellion Eruption could be an amusing trick with a deck using lots of Spawn Tokens/small mana producers, etc, but I really don't think it'll be massive - just perhaps a $2-3 card at some point, rather than the $0.50 it is now. Kind of an amusing all-in 1-2 punch with Devestating Summons. Hellion Eruption -> Devastating Summons, for the lulz more than anything.
As for overhyped, I can't say too much there, the Titans will decrease a little, I believe in Momentous Fall and Realms Uncharted (maybe not for Standard, but who knows) but I think they all need to come down a good bit, and they will, just as Gideon and the like will once the Pre-release/First Month scramble is done.

Realms Uncharted is not overhyped, it fuels KoTR, corrects Wild Nactal, and thins the deck of four cards. Not sure why everyone is jumping on the this card isn't good bandwagon? A card to be over-hyped has to be over 8 in my opinion, this card is hovering around 4-5 on most sites.
Lightmine Field, I believe with the release of Gideon these cards may lower the card count of Day of Judgement and Elspeths in U/W control. When you have the ability to fourth turn lightmine, fifth turn force all creatures to attack, it has a nice effect.
Awakening Zone is good, but I don't think its a sleeper. It is not bitterblossom, the tokens don't have evasion and they can't deal damage without another card buffing them. It is what it is, it works well in an deck that is going to have broodwatcher, hand of free slappin', and eldrazi.
Hmm, not even sure I can give 5 of each, but I think Consume the Meek is extremely overrated at this point. It is a 5 mana instant wrath, but not being able to hit 4+drops is a pretty relevant drawback.
Renegade Doppelganger is so underrated I can't stand even reading comments about him lol. I'll just wait until people actually use him and realize that he's ridiculous, and then I'll just say "I told you so". I've tested him extensively in a number of decks, new and already established, and he's completely nuts.
Also, lol at some of the people saying Vengevine is overrated. I'm sorry, but he's one of the best creatures to come along since...god, I don't know. Probably BBE, maybe even Demigod of Revenge. That magical wording of "cast" makes him come back so much more often than his flying, hasted recurring cousin from Shadowmoor. Not that he needed to come back often (because he won essentially after you played him the first time)....lol, but it's worth noting that Vengevine comes back from the yard more often than one of the most relevant creatures in recent standard memory.

i'd be much more scared of a bloodghast than a vengevine swinging at me just because of the frequency that a bloodghast can come into play from the yard. vengevine will definitely be used, but don't assume that he's too good or anything like that.
he definitely isn't too good, I'm just excited about the possibilities he brings to the table. The most excited I've been about a creature since Demigod. He isn't as good as Demigod was imo, but still very good.
