There's a few Jund decks in my meta, I seem to hold my own against them.
Not everyone has budgets for 4 Pulses and 12 fetchlands.
On a more imprtant note, yes, I am having fun in this new standard.
So why am I having fun? I've been sneaking wins with a terrible Naya deck that everyone has told me is terrible.
But it's not the wins, or even winning with jank. I've been having fun in Standard again because I remembered it is a game.
I know some people play competitively, I do for one. I know some people take the game brutally seriously, I try not to. I watched too much House and NCIS, and took all my House-isms and Dinozzo-isms into FNM.
I was gladhandling and narrating my own matches like a YuGiOh character.
I was loud and obnoxious.
If I'd have been at a PTQ, my behaviour not only would have been frowned upon, I probably would have gotten some kind of penalties, and that's a real shame, because I've been having more fun than I've had in years; and for every dour-faced FNMer beating noobs with smug superiority, I hope they read this and I hope it helps them come to the next FNM with a smile on their face.
I compared my mother to Birds of Paradise.
I went 3-1 with utter jank.
I double fist-pumped and false-alarmed a "PROGENITUS!!!" cry.
I psyched out a newer player by pretending to respond to every one of his spells with an imaginary Force of Will.
I'd be having a lot of fun if baneslayer weren't printed. Everyone plays baneslayer as their white finisher or your crazy. At least in white, its the main reason why decklists look alike.
The thing with Standard is that is always just needs time to develop and become interesting. When it starts up just after a rotation, people always flock to the deck that lost the least from the rotation (Jund) or the spicy new kids on the block (Vampires). But after a while, people start to find more interesting decks to play. I'm not a huge fan of the current standard, but with decks like Nissa aggro showing up, Standard should get more interesting soon.

Key is remembering tactical use of shades. If you must double-bolt a Rhox War Monk, for instance, the phrase "I guess this time <puts on shades> lightning DID strike twice."
I find it humorous that there are people complaining about how jund dominates the metagame and people complaining about baneslayer being too strong in the same thread.
I find it humorous that there are people complaining about how jund dominates the metagame and people complaining about baneslayer being too strong in the same thread.
I'm not saying baneslayer decks are better or worse than Jund; I just think its disappointing deck builders will only use baneslayer when making a deck with white in it. I like seeing different builds instead of varients with the same old trick up their sleeve.
One thing I find funny at my FNM is the people who hate jund the most are the ones playing it...seriously.
I talked to 4 jund players that said its not the kind of deck they enjoy playing but its just too damn effective.
I am not playing it either, except for the week after rotation, but if I was I would make the exact same statement. I don't enjoy the deck from either side of the table, but it is very good.
I'm having fun and I think the meta is actually pretty diverse. Jund is the obvious front-runner after a couple strong showings in tournaments, but there are several decks that are around 50/50 with it or even favorable. It's nowhere near unbeatable.
I do shake my head at these threads. Is it really so long ago that we've forgotten the days of literally everyone playing Psychatog at FNM?
Boros Bushwacker
Mono white control
Red Deck Wins
Jund
Luminarch Control
Vampire Aggro
Naya Ramp
Summoning Trap Ramp
U/X mill.
Bant Aggro
Nissa Aggro
Five Colour Cascade
Just a few of the current options available. All of which have there options against Jund and place in the metagame. If you honestly can't find anything there that you like and would rather just complain that 'jund is too good' then perhaps it's time to find another hobby?

Agreed. Anyone who complains about the recent standard has obviously never had to play 4 rounds of mirari's wake mirror matches, or had to think to themselves, "Should I play Affinity or.....wait you can't play anything BUT affinity in this format!"

I swear, this card has "protection from Chris Jobin," and its rather infuriating.
I'm having fun with the meta as i'm playing warp world and doing fairly well with it, but I don't find any top tier decks appealing right now (mainly because theyre all aggro) so I can see why many people arent
I'll echo xp4nic here -- I'm very much enjoying Standard with my Warp World deck. It does middling well (I've gone 2-2 my last 4 FNMs), but even the games that I lose tend to have lots of neat interactions, and I've consistently had at least one person tell me that the game they just played with me was the best game of the night for them.
It's not a 4-0 kind of deck, but I'd recommend it to anyone who cares more about fun than winning every single game.

Yeah I guess my posts sound like I don't like this meta, but I actually think its pretty good don't get me wrong. So I guess I'm one less person complaining about the game lol.

i played a warping Ally deck at FNM a couple weeks ago. Took dead last. I forgot myside board at home, which was specifically to counter Jund....I faced 3 Jund decks, came in dead last with only 1 win against some guy.
The most fun i had was a 3 way game between me, another ally deck and a sliver deck, where the other Ally player twincasted my warp world. and winning 1on1 against a sliver deck with my allies....

Yeah, I've tried the Ally build of Warp World, and while it's a complete blast if you manage to get a Warp off, I've found that it just doesn't have what it takes to survive until then. I favor a more resilient build that uses noncreature acceleration and stalling tactics such as Mycoid Shepherd and Wall of Reverence to stay alive until I can seal the deal with my signature spell.
if you are really complaining because you think jund wins alot, i say stop being a sissy and deal with it. jund realy isnt that good, i kicked the tar out of it last week, just play bant or u/w and stop complaining.

No offense but I don't think you were playing an optimal Jund build control has so many problems with Jund right now, also Bant doesnt have the edge it needs to beat Jund at the moment

No, but Bant is a terrific choice against vampires(if you're doing a mass removal, approaching mid-range, but still aggro deck), and it also tends to consistently beat U/W control. If you're looking to rack up wins against Jund hate, it's a good way to go. It has a a poor chance against Jund(albeit much better if you spec your sideboard for the Jund matchup, or splash red for naya charm/reborn hope/day of judgement shenanigans), and only really gets thoroughly trashed repeatedly by red decks.
Jund just dominates this format too much. There's too much restriction and there's less choices that makes this format boring for me. Not having fun at all
So far, I've not been enjoying the current Standard. However, the recent decks using Eldrazi Monument have started to capture my imagination as far as a direction to go in deck building. I know that people have started to complain about Jund, but from my experience Cruel Control and Cruel Ultimatum have been my biggest problems. Maybe I'm just being a whiner, but Cruel Ultimatum just seems to do too much. Outside of playing A. a really fast aggro deck, B. some really bad counterspells, or C. some really bad land destruction I've yet to figure out anyway to deal with it.
Even the sudden appearance of elves ( nissa aggro ) is not the answer to jund, yes it wins 60/40 against jund but its simply because jund players didnt expect those kind of things and are'nt prepared for it. I think that the elves will not be successful given the amount of "playable" elves, and the lack of removal, and most of the time, nissa hits the board just to fetch a 2/3 and gets bolted, and eldrazi monument is easy to handle. Well, we'll be seeing jund being the top deck in standard until february.
As for now, I'm constructing a boros bushwhacker deck which is fast enough to deal against jund. but those 2-for-1s and blightnings gives sick advantages. urgg.
No I am not having fun with standard!!!! Due to working third shift like a beast I rarely get to play in any standard events. Im gonna try to do states here and I will do regionals but others are on a case by case basis. Which means unless i can get that day off and a ride to the tournament due to sleep issues I wont be doing much.:-/
I've been having fun even if only because I play the most off the wall stuff in my group. It gets boring playing the same decks over and over but what can you do? I can't control what other people bring to the table.
My favorite moments from standard season so far have been killing someone with a Mesa Enchantress and milling 65 cards turn 5 as certain death was waiting for me next turn.
I think it's funny that the "good cards" in Standard are so obviously good. WotC are basically slapping everyone in the face with Blightning-like "look what good cards are common" stuff.
I don't like decks that build themselves. Vampires and Jund are basically Monoblack respectively GRB GoodStuff.dec. No challenge for the deckbuilder and no challenge to play, because the optimal play is so freaking obvious everytime. That's no fun to me.
Well, for one, about Blightning, Blightning was actually heralded by many to be an unplayable card. So i doubt it screams "omg im so powerful", at least if you look at the blightning thread when it was spoiled, a bunch of people didnt think so.
Vampires I would disagree is an auto build deck. Well, it is after you choose what sort of vampires you want to play. Obviously after you choose balls to the wall aggro, midrange, or control (though im not sure control is very good), each of those decks are built fairly differently. Yes, jund is an autobuild deck, which is unfortunate.
I'm really happy about Eldrazi Greens success, although I admit it is somewhat of a niche deck, and ppl werent prepared. but it does show that innovative decks can still certainly beat a jund meta. Im not sure either of the 2 top nissa green players dropped a match until they played each other, right?
Unfortunetly, 5c cascade I dont consider an entirely new deck, it follows junds principle. Each card in the deck is very individually powerful and often hard to deal with, thus making cascade a huge source of CA. One nice thing is theres more options for deckbuilder for innovation then in Jund, but it still isn;t really that different.
And about legacy... most of the Goyf/FoW share the same base 50 cards... so thats the one sad bit about legacy. I wouldnt go there if you dont want decks to build themselves. That being said, there are TONS of other very powerful strategies that have nothing do to with Thresh or Top/Goyf or w/e, so thats the bbig bonus
