Thr concept of the deck is pretty simple - play efficient creatures backed up by disruption and maximize the potential for 2-for-1 trades and grind out card advantage.
The core of the deck is BG but Red also adds some good options like the top-end threats in: Rekindling Phoenix + Demanding Dragon (very good with all the removal that keep the board relatively small) and also Lightning Strike.
The mana is the main weakness of the deck but it isn't too bad.
There is an option to add more fixing (District Guide) to the deck but it will come at the expense of interaction or threats so I'm not sure if it is really worth it.
I like it but is Adventurous Impulse really that important over more removal and wouldnt with your top end being so high, Llanowar Elves be a better addition? Do you feel Thorn Lieutenant is better than Branchwalker?

Mhjames: mtgsalvation: I DON'T SEE HOW THIS CARD IS GOOD. I KNOW PATRICK CHAPIN USED IT AND WENT 8-0, BUT THAT WAS A SMALL TOURNAMENT. THE CARD IS TOO SLOW. YOU NEED TO MAKE SURE THE OPPONENT HAS A SPELL IN THE GRAVEYARD
Between Llanowar Elves and Adventurous Impulse I prefer the latter as I value consistency over speed in this deck and A.Impulse helps draw relevant cards (and sort of fix my mana) and provides a 1-mana play to the doctor deck which isn't useless in the lategame.
Thorn Lieutenant is a better 2-drop than Merfolk Branchwalker imho as it trades better with removal, blocks better and is a legitimate threat in the lategame with the pump ability.
imo, there probably is gonna be a level of inconsistency in the mana base.
As far as mana sources it looks like you have:
15 forests
14 swamp
11 mountain
Now the suggestion is you should have as far as sources:
14 red sources for demanding dragon
16 red sources for rekindling pheonix
16 black sources for ravenous chupacabra
I'm ignoring the Isareth because your only running 1 of.
Adventurous impluse would count as a cantrip source of .25
You may be able to drop 2 forests to get the mountains closer.
As far as what to add I'm unsure. There just appears to not be enough red mana for Double Red. I'd be very tempted to cut Vine Mare and Thrashing Brontodon in favor of Plague Mare which would be good against aggro.
for the 4 cmc alternative it's tough because Vine Mare is the only one of that group that appears to not die to removal quickly.

Not really as I don't have any GY-payoffs besides Isareth and I want my 5-mana creature to close out the game (or at least remove a creature)
rather than help with card selection and fill the GY.
I wonder if the deck could support Golgari Findbroker in the 4-mana slot as there is a distinct lack of "real" card advantage here besides relying on card quality and the inherent 2-for-1 nature of the creatures.
It would also work well with Dead Weight as a poential 1-mana removal spell in this deck which can be reused.
I might also cut Isareth to add District Guide (or the 25th land) which might alleviate some of the mana issues.
Also, what are the thoughts on Midnight Reaper as potential 3-drop in this deck to generate some more card advantage ?

Another 3-drop which can potentially be good here is Midnight Reaper which can help with card draw as the deck tends to trade creatures.
