They're back and furry good, with a few new choice kitties and enchantments. Still working on the sideboard but we're getting close to this deck being ready.
So i feel like this deck does have potential, but you may want to lower the curve some. There are two other 1 drop Cats of which i only like the Leonin Vanguard. I also see the potential of the Ajani's Pridemate but i dont feel you have enough lifegain to make him worth it. If you wanted to play the Soul Sister enchanment that would change my mind on it. I also dont know how quickly you can get the city's blessing in this deck.
Green is completely unncessary. Pride Sovereign is a win-more card. I suggest going mono-white.
I also found in my cat deck Anointed Procession is amazing. I know it's another 4 drop in an archetype suddenly full of 4 drops, but it's kind of the perfect card for what cats is doing. I kind of like it better than what the other 4 drops are doing. When I play it, it's normally turn 4 Procession and turn 5 Caracal/Eternalize Pouncer. That turn 4 going into turn 5 is a much stronger play than either of the other 2 4 drops. At least that's how I feel about it.
oh yeah good call thanks. didn't have the "finished" version of the list so threw in some slot holders and did some casual testing. and the deck is not bad it'll definitely do what i need better after i finish out the list but right now i really like playing the deck thanks folks i'll update once its finished and describe how its doing
so i got to play last night in showdown and here the results
Game 1 Kitties V. Drake Haven 0-2
they were able to stall me out early and pushed me into the late game with no cards the drakes flew over me and squished me but the life gain pushed us late and in the end fumigate beat me more than the drakes
Game 2 Kitties V. grixis dragony things 2-1
Game 1 was a messy start ending in dragons eating me but game 2-3 the life gain and all the cats won me it
game 3 Kitties v. Mardu Super friends control 0-2
,
the deck doesn't like large amounts of removal and the effects that boosted his game from the planeswalkers screwed me hard
analysis: So i figured out the point of green in this deck....it's hexproof and solid protection from a ton of removal and board wipes, and the big kitty is just a plus of the color not even the main reason to play it.
Mentor of the Meek Sucks really bad in this deck. So it's gone now.
So, my experience with Cats was very similar to yours. When I first started playing them, I played GW and while they deck performed well, decks with lots of sweepers killed me, especially Approach. I couldn't afford to commit enough to the board to get them dead. The sweepers kept me just slow enough for them to get their Approaches and win. I tried adding Heroic Intervention and Gideon of the Trials and Gideon's Intervention, and it made a difference. I went from losing every game, to occasionally winning a game, but dropping every match. The problem was, as decent of a "counterspell" Heroic Intervention was, the 2 I was running, wasn't enough to save me against a deck running 4 Fumigate and 4 Settle the Wreckage (which it does nothing against). They just had more answers than I had answers to answers.
On a whim, I decided to go Bant. Adding blue gave counterspells and made the deck MUCH better than before. Instead of running Heroic Intervention, Gideon of the Trials, and Gideon's Intervention to try to combat their sweepers and win cons, Negate handled all of those situations all by itself. The deck was miles better than before. I still kept Gideon and Gideon's Intervention just because they're good sideboard cards, but Negate was doing the heavy lifting.
Then they banned Attune with Aether making my 3 colors of mana much harder and, consequently, making my Longtusk Cub worse. I quickly realized blue was doing much more in the deck than green was, and blue became the secondary color of choice. If you're wanting to be better in those heavy removal and especially those heavy sweeper matches, blue is a much stronger color. You lose very little cat power by dropping green and gain a ton more protection picking up blue.
In my UW Cats list, which I'm sorry hasn't been updated with new M19 cards (I've been focusing on other decks), when I discovered adding Anointed Procession to cats, the deck really became a mash-up of Cats + Embalm/Eternalize. All those double Cat tokens, double Adorned Pouncer tokens and double Champion of Wits tokens (yeah, not a cat, but when you're looking for card draw to add and you're running Procession, it's by far the best card draw you can get) are very hard to beat. It's definitely not the only way to build UW Cats, but it's certainly a fun and powerful way to do it.
