hey guys, just wondering, i like the idea of playing a deck that is creature aggro but not kithkin. i heard about bg elves but i dont have a whole lot of money. so my question is "is there a way to build this to be competitive but on a budget?"
what kinda budget are we talking???? if you avoid the big stuff (Seize, Chameleon Colossus) it might work, the duals aren't to expensive. It all depends on the budget your talking.
Now G/W Elves can be built for cheap but its unproven and is not as good on the removal side as B/G is.

hmm well id like to keep it a bill. i was thinking that gw would be cool for just basic aggro and a little life gain to keep it up. (perhaps moth) but see, i just dont have a whole lot of money. but ultimately ya, id like to see how that works for both the BG and WG elf on a 100$$ budget. thoughts?
I had the same problem and instead of splashing (requiring multi lands and all that) I kept it mono green, here is the build im running it came third in my FNM last night (lost to faeries, stupid faeries).
build merfolk, most of the deck is pretty cheap and very competetive. b/g elves are not the top dogs they use to be (they are still very very very good). Yes i know merfolk has cryptic, but with so many cards in type 2, its impossible to build a competetive deck that doesn't include some kinda chase rare. the budget version would be full agro with tideshaper mystic. oh btw, i think b/g elves can be competetive on a budget.
elsewhere flask is so bad for card draw. it replaces itself(if i played a card that cost one mana, and it read draw a card, thats not card draw, thats wasting one mana). that card does nothing for you at all. you don't need mana fixing. manamorphose is waayyy better than the flask. if you want good card draw try harmonize. heck orhan viper would be better than the flask, it may not be an elf, but its better than what you put.

That's a good build, except that the Elsewhere Flasks make no sense... I'd do Bramblewood Paragons. Even though there aren't many other Warriors, it's a 2/2 elf for 2 and it makes the Imperious Perfects pretty unfair. Otherwise, really strong for a budget deck.
Now, note that you can forego the Mutavaults, but garruk is indispensable here as he will guarantee you a win MOST of the time at turn 5 or 6. The only deck that managed to last LONGEr than that against me was Mirror mono-green elf with VIGOR. god that thing pissed me off, but with sudden spoiling and terrors in sideboard, it was no worry. ESPECIALLY with profane command, on the second game i sneaked behind him with 16 points of damage and 5 points already taken from the second effect of profane(damage)
If you want budget. I would say take out the garruks and just use straight up overrun, but that kind of defeats the purpose of BEING able to overrun AND give your creatures fear AND remove a fatty/do extra damage.
Tell me what you think of this final line-up, if it's something you "can" get, with the traders you have and the cardpool in your area. (if EVERYONE has a playset of garruks or B/G pain/tribal lands, it might be easier to build then)
well, see my big problem is the garruks. he is an AMAZING good card, and was verry hard to take out. but unfortunately for me i dont have 100 dollars for the four of them, i barely have enough money to make a deck. on another note, this deck is cool, and i like it alot. but the fact stands that i dont have enough money to make the deck, however the build is the epitome of awesome and i verry much like it -to answer your question- i calculated the above list at about 62 bucks, which is awesom. is there anyway a similar B/G deck can be built for about that?
Hello,
I am new to this forum. I stopped playing mtg when my pro-stasis deck was not T2 anymore... Now I am back.
I built the deck below, and it is working really well so far, what do you think ?
instead of garruk, you can run 4 Vigor and put in heritage druid, then play LURE. that type of deck got second place at my local FNM(second to me of course :D)
creatures you control cant die (vigor) and creatures you control get bigger and bigger. Plus, with this, you can play MONO greed with vexing shusher, horizon canopy (vs flyers) and naturalize/gleeful sabotage.
Hmmm that was quite a good idea. But I can't really see this deck running without Garruk. Vigor is really good indeed. But with 22 manas, 4 llanowar and 4 birds, I think the heritage druid might not be necessary. Still.... Lure is kind usefull... but I don't think I can get anything out of this deck to add Lure....
The only problem is that Vigor is kind of a slow drop. I might add 2 Vigors do my deck.... No idea what I will remove.... What worries me is that since its a BG deck, there is no way you can prevent spells. So Vigor can be easly killed. Eventho it will go back to your library, its an expensive drop. I might add it to Side.
I see what you mean. Being G/B, and vigor costing 3GGG can be a problem when you have to rely on llanowars. IN mono green it's great.
You use what you got my fried, unless you have traders or you can buy the cards. heck, you can put in summoner's pack to search those vigors when you need them and play em. Ovverrun is great but most of the time if you play it BEFORE turn 5, it means one or MORE of your creatures are NOT attacking (bird, llannowar) which is why garruck is so great...
Just remember to pay their cost in the upkeep
I usually just buy the cards. I work alot, so thanks to that buying em is not a problem (I setted up this deck in like 3 weeks, I had 0 cards before).
Anyway... I made some alterations, see what you think.
I removed 1 Llanowar, 1 Bird, and Tomb to add 3 Wilf-leaf. I think the deck alredy had enough mana generation, and I could loose 2 mana generators and 1 mana converter to add 3 of those WLL. Altho I though about removing 1 or 2 brablewood instead.

Instead of the eyes of the wisent, put in 2 vexing shussher. You already ahve a lot of removal with shriekmaw, nameless, profane, hurrikane etc.. and eyes will slow you down (tempo, they call it)
take out the troll ascetics and the prowesses and put in withered wretch for reveillark and grave hate(demigod)
take out the overruns and add TWO wren's run packmaster. THREE garruks are enough. and with profane to give fear and kill or bring back stuff, you wont need it. take out the treetop villages and maybe add two more mutavaults and 2 URBORG toomb of yawgmoth. I found that treetops slow me down. Id rather have a vanquisher and a mutavault than a treetop and vanquisher with no mana to play it. With garruk, you wont need the heavy punch.
take out the shriekmaws and put in TWo nath of the gilt-leaft. (you have enough removal, nath is a warrior, an elf, a 4/4 for 5 AND he makes discard (good for late game when you want to force out cryptic or make him discard heavy finishers) ESPECIALLy since you can play nath on turn 3 sometimes
All that you said to add, I alredy have, I had the 2 Naths on my deck, I removed it coz its was kind slow. I might remove the overuns to add the Naths, but what worries me is that I find really hard to use the Garruks overrun, coz usually when he is on the table, he becomes main target, and dosen't last very long.
I really liked having Nath on the deck when I had harbinger. But harbinger kind sucks, so I removed it.
Removing the 2 shriekmaws ? Im not sure. The great thing about my BG is the mana generation. It is realy easy to drop Shriek without paying its evoke. It will be another 3/2 card, fear, with a nice terror on it. But if is really needed I can just use the evoke cost.
Packmaster is a nice combo with wolf skull, but I personaly don't like the Packmaster very much.... Don't like the champion stuff, unless its VERY good.... And the wolf generation is too expensive.
What do you think about the Wilt-Leaf Liege ? a good addition ?
I think I will remove 1 Swamp to add the Urborg back. I find hard to imagine the deck with 2 Urborg, coz its a kind "repeated" card, since once you got 1 on the table, you can't get the second. Removing 2 manas to put 2 Urborg I think it will suck. I can't imagine 1 card to remove to add the 2nd Urborg. Any ideas ?
I was thinking about removing 2 Swamps and 2 Forests to add 4 Reflecting Pools too.
Now G/W Elves can be built for cheap but its unproven and is not as good on the removal side as B/G is.
