I've been playing this online on xmage fairly often. The new versatile cards are great. Abrade, Supreme Will and Doomfall are all very, very good. They allow you to prioritize card efficiency and Goblin Dark Dwellers being able to recur them is great.
I am wondering how you all go about building Grixis Control? Being able to Dispossess Blue Gearhulks is a game winning play.
Hey there, so far I've been using a U\R shell splashing black just to test out the waters and while I'm liking how it is I think moving forward I'd like to do something like this
Scarab god, the ability is just bonkers. And since we practically kill all their stuff we can exile them to our own use.
Locust god, with that much draw power, pretty sure we can take advantage of the tokens it creates.
Why only 3 t. Gearhulk? Because abrade is a thing now. I actually want to try moving the scorpion god to mb and another gearhulk to the sb, but will try it out first.
The deck isn't too heavy on black as I only want to really use it to cast bolas and doomfall. ThoughI might tweak the mana to be more black friendly since I also want something to use as to answer for big hexproof creatures, I.e. to the slaughter, more doomfall, etc...
Scorpion god: not really sure bout this guy, but no harm in trying to see if he plays good with the two other gods.
Why no fatal push? Zombies usually just comes back and without revolt it really isn't that good at killing midrange threats like tireless tracker and the like. Magma spray and harnessed lightning do a better job of containing loose creatures before we hit hour of devastation.
Fevered visions: I'm anticipating more control decks to come out and try to use bolas, seemed like a good sb card + card advantage.
Why no chandra tod? While she does accelerate bolas, getting hit by our own hour of devastation ain't funny. Other midrange decks are also popping out, so might as well use turn 4 to counter any brisling hydra or t5 glory bringers.
Defeat cycle cards: self-explanatory. very situational, but it does give you answers to U/R/B walkers and some creatures which are rampant.
Doomfall: brisling hydra. Actually I want more of this mainboard but swapping it with supreme will kind of bugs me as a no go.
Still very early and I'd want to do some more play testing before I finalize my grixis list, but other than this, the only shell I can think of using is a R/B shell splashing U, but that one will be more of a tap out style control rather than this draw-go style
This may sound weird but is Nicol Bolas, the deceiver actually playable? I got one of the pw decks for a EDH but since I've got only one copy of Nicol Bolas, god-pharaoh I decided to mess with it. Visage of Bolas is actually powerful since it ramps and tutors or recovers Bolas from the graveyard and you get to keep 1 blue mana for dispel an opposing abrade. I'm not saying it could be viable mainboard but along 2 collective brutality and 2 lay bare the heart it could be a strong plan against control (possible mirror) and midrange. Also I found that crypt of the eternals isn't as bad as I think, you can still fatal push as a 2cmc spell in the worst case and along aether hub it actually fixes the mana base if you run a higher amount of islands along choked estuary.
