So here we are, a new rotation and a new standard. So far it looks like RW Cars seems to be taking the early lead in the race that is the standard meta game.
I'm not an aggro player so obviously I don't get to get excited for the first 2 weeks or so of a standard rotation because it always aggro or some variant. Well when deciding what i wanted to play for this standard season I knew id had to be something with some sort of the new Titan--eerrr..... GearHulk. So I came up with a BR list that I was pretty happy with. Went to see what other people were saying and I discovered a couple lists that were splashing white. I immediately scratched my BR idea and made the list BRW to support the new(ish) list.
This list will eventually lead to Liliana, the Last Hope and another Cataclysmic Gearhulk in the main. I'd also really like to get as many Collective Brutality. We'll see after testing what underperforms once I/whomever finds the correct numbers for removal.
After the games I've only gold-fished for mana results/issues and I'd make this change once I get the Concealed Courtyards.
So far with this current list, I really only need RR on turn 6. WW on turn 5 and BB would be nice as early as 2. I was pleasantly surprised as to how this current mana base has shown me. So far my averages of reaching certain color combinations would be,
BB Turn 3.7 WW Turn 3.9 RR Turn 4
All Turn 3.2
So so far, it's been fairly consistent and I'd like to get that BB down to lower than 3.7 turns.
Obviously, I've not done any sort of match ups or anything along those lines but I've thought a lot about the sideboard and options we may have.
For now, that's all the time I have to write about this list. I'll make sure I'll get some more words in sooner rather than later. All I can say is, Combustible Gearhulk is unbelievably awesome in this deck. On average He'd deal 8!

I've seen this deck around. It's pretty cool, really powerful to land a noxious gearhulk on turn 4 against aggro decks. Have you considered running 4 Carthatic reunion and 2 tormenting voice, as the main objective seems to be to fill the graveyard with as many gearhulks as possible, and reunion gives you more views at your deck. Also, I'm not 100% sold on DiS, sorcery speed and gives your opponent card advantage, and missed copter which you're not able to block otherwise. Other than that the deck looks pretty sweet, can't wait to cast an ever after and land 2 combustible gearhulks!
Nice points. Declaration could easily be moved to the board. Maybe for the third CataHulk and either the Flames or Grasp depending on how she plays.
As far as the Cathartic Reunion, this card is incredibly powerful I get. But my personal meta will be swarming with Spell Quellers and I never want to be blown out to that extent. I'm also running 26 land currently for early land drop consistency and for easier choices in the late game to pitch to the Reunion, Voice and Nahiri.
I hope this deck will perform the way I believe it will.
I've been testing a mardu hulk reanimator build on cockatrice for the past week or so. I can't recall my exact list but I will post it when I get home. I feel that noxious gh and combustible gh are far better that cataclysmic gh. I often find myself wishing that I had combustible or noxious to cast or reanimate rather than cataclysmic. They've both closed out games faster in my experience. Also, I believe at least two copies of collective brutality should be in the main. Killing a creature, discarding an opponents removal and pitching one of our hulk on turn three to set up refurbish is a super strong line. I play 4 cathartic and 3 collective brutality and neither have let me down.
The idea is awesome. I was able to do a bit of playtesting and I have to say that the deck is solid. I will be fine tuning the deck a bit and I've found that it's really easy to get 6 types in the grave, so I'll be trying out a single Emrakul.
Also I would try madcap experiment out. I play it as a 2 off and it feels great to hit a hulk. I've had limited testing but so far I've dealt between 1-5 damage testing, but it hits super hard.
Unlicensed disintegration is the real deal. It's great removal and on occasion you will get the 3 bonus damage. It's a mandatory 4 of for me.
I will be doing some more tuning tomorrow and after my standard tourney, I'll have reports along with a decklist.
Do you have a list? I had a rough draft of RB Gearhulk burn going but was wanting to figure out a good way to run a single Emrakul. My deck will likely shift to mardu reanimator after reading different ideas/threads.

I will be getting a set of Collective Brutality as soon as I can. I'll have to order them online as my LGS has none. I feel this card is perfect for this deck and at least two will find a home here.

I feel that Madcap is an entirely different deck. I was reading through their thread and I simply felt the decks are way too different to be compared to one another.
Do you have a list? I had a rough draft of RB Gearhulk burn going but was wanting to figure out a good way to run a single Emrakul. My deck will likely shift to mardu reanimator after reading different ideas/threads.
I hadn't thought about reanimation effects when putting this together.
Yeah, that list is more so in this threads genre as I had stated above. I too had the exact same thought process when originally brainstorming for Gearhulk.deck.
I've also heard they had a video of this archtype on starcity, does anyone have a list?
I've also decided that I will move the Declaration in Stone's to the Sideboard at the least. For now I think I will go with something like,
Well, played FNM tonight. Felt really good pretty much every game. Minor tweaks needed here and there.
Went 3-1
1. W 2-0 vs.RW Cars- It was a semi budget as I feel he had everything cept Copters. ( he said he had 1 so it was not as threatening as I would've liked.
2. L 1-2 vs. Junk Control- Solid list. I only lost because I was stalled out game 3 with only 1 red source and ended up drawing 3 of the 4 Dr. Boom's.
3. W 2-0 vs. UW Spirits- He had mediocre draws so i'd like to play this more as it was hard to get a good read as I feel this may be one of my worst MU's.
4. W 2-1 vs. GB Delirium- heck of a match honestly. Dr. Death is sick here..
So very close to the list on top a few minor changes (which may have hurt me as I changed the amount or red sources).
Sideboard will always be a work in progress. The only cards I did not side in tonight were, Chandra, Flamecaller and Fragmentize.
It really performed very well as I felt even when the RW Cars had me down to 5 I felt "safe" and in my game 3 loss to the Junk list had I drawn a second red source, I could have chained Dr. Boom's. It was really funny the turn I cast Dr. Death killing his man-land that had been made a 7/7 due to Nissa and Advocate.
This deck has some power to swing games. Even Dr. Whatever had some tricks and was by far the worst of the three but he defiantly had value. I mean it's silly when the UW Spirits player plays his third Stasis Snare, and I follow up with him. I also had a turn where He killed a Walker and a creature and then Noxious finished off the other creature.
I will most definitely stick with and tweak this list to the best of my ability.

SO i playtested your list a little and dude, this deck impresses me! A fourth Nahiri sounds awesome. I am wrecking every matchup except one: The UW Flash deck with 3834238 counter spells. I think a second Nahiri might be good here
Favourite Deck: Elves (Modern & Legacy)
Standard: New Perspectives Combo
Modern: GW Hatebears | Death and Taxes | Eldrazi and Taxes | Abzan Liege | Abzan Company
Commander: The Gitrog Monster (Combo) | Noyan Dar, Roil Shaper (Control) | RIP Leovold Sultai (Elvestorm, no unfair locks) | Mono G (Yisan or Titania)
Tiny Leaders: Too many decks to keep track of
Pauper: RIP UR Drake | Mono B | GBx Goodstuff | Jund "Melira"
This is the list I am currently running. I am thinking about adding another strong creature for Nahiri Ult to the deck, because I had one of my control opponents nearly decked me with my own Combust Gearhulks and maybe playing 1 Emrakul might be worth (and cutting 1 Concealed Courtyard). or is there another valueable creature with something like a "i win" ETB?

Cutting Gearhulks is not a good idea IMO. It has the potential to make Refurbish and Ever After less powerful (which fuel the best card in the deck in Dr. Boom). So far the late game has been solid. Getting there has been soso and that's what I feel I personally for the deck feel the list needs work. My first list had Spaghetti in here but I cut her for more cards to influence the early game.
I've been struggling to fit Kalitas in the list. I simply do not know what to take out or what's less powerful. So after I get some games in, the sideboard will become easier to construct and match ups will become less or more reliant on sideboard cards.

I am playing 3 red, 3 black and 2 white Gearhulks andmight as well just cut 1 white gearhulk and play a third Ever After and maybe cut the fourth Nahiri to play a second Ulamog. Ulamog vs. BG Delirium is a game-winner
Edit after more testing:
I am cutting 1 Nahiri's Wrath for another Radiant Flames maindeck. we need more swipers vs aggressive decks
Edit 2:
we still have a lot of problems vs. aggro and control so i try to add 2 Liliana into the Sideboard because most T3 planeswalker don't get countered
Favourite Deck: Elves (Modern & Legacy)

I decided to try a slightly different approach. Instead of going all in trying to control the board until you can Refurbish, I think that providing a grave-based aggro package would compliment the main deck better.
The idea is that against midrange and slower combo decks, early pressure or blockers gives you time to get your Refurbish/Gearhulk chain going. Against control decks with counters, the recursive graveyard aggro gives you plenty of late game even if they have counters for your Refurbishes and exile effects against the top end threats. Aggro seems like the hardest match up, which is why the sideboard is set up to allow you to bring in large amounts of removal.
Like some of the Emerge/Madness style decks, this can put 9+ power into play on turn 3 or 4 via Prized Amalgams, Haunted Dead and rummage spells like Cathartic Reunion. Turn 2 Smuggler's Copter into turn 3 Scrapheap Scrounger provides an early start that also provides a discard outlet for the rest of your graveyard cards along with early magnets for removal to clear the way for Gearhulks.
The absolute nuts is something like Turn 2 Reunion, pitching a Gearhulk and Haunted Dead. Turn three you bring back the Dead, pitching a pair of Amalgams, putting 9 power into play. Turn 4 you Refurbish the Gearhulk, hopefully flipping over 3 more Gearhulks/Ever After for 18 damage.
So what's the plan against all these control decks?
historically, midrangeish decks have been bad vs control. This deck especially game 1 is bad because it is a blowout if voice and reunion get countered. Usually a good planeswaler suite can help with control but it is always an uphill battle. Transgress the Mind can deal with Snapcaster Hulk
I would also advocate for a Liliana or two in the Mainboard, in the absence of Refurbish, her -2 will get you that creature back.
Ive wanted to try this style of deck ever since I saw it in an SCG article a few weeks back. I usually like aggro but it seems that if you want to play aggro you need 4 copters and im not willing to shell out 70-80 bucks for em.
So what's the plan against all these control decks?
Currently I have 4 Nahiri and 7 creature-lands main and the sideboard contains 1 Chandra, Flamecaller (if she dies not get countered she wins you the game) and 2 Chandra, Torch of Defiance as well as 2 Anguished Unmaking (instant-speed removal when the tap out) and 2 Transgress the Mind in the side. So vs. control I cut the radiant flames, the white gearhulks and one black gearhulk.
Favourite Deck: Elves (Modern & Legacy)
Standard: New Perspectives Combo
Modern: GW Hatebears | Death and Taxes | Eldrazi and Taxes | Abzan Liege | Abzan Company
Commander: The Gitrog Monster (Combo) | Noyan Dar, Roil Shaper (Control) | RIP Leovold Sultai (Elvestorm, no unfair locks) | Mono G (Yisan or Titania)
Tiny Leaders: Too many decks to keep track of
Pauper: RIP UR Drake | Mono B | GBx Goodstuff | Jund "Melira"

I like the MAdcap idea, my main gripe is that RW and other vehicle aggro decks are a thing, and I would be hesitant to loose a bunch of life. And tbh I feel this that this deck has a difficult time vs the aggro decks if they get their good stuff before we stabilize.
Here is the list I've been testing out for 3 weeks now. This is my most recent version from the original list I pulled from SCG. My sideboard is very similar to Conley Wood's recent video series. I think having the Collective Brutality in the main is important for fighting control decks in game one. It is weaker against aggro but the meta in my shop is moving away from those decks. I like the ideas that are being discussed for this deck and will be trying out a few of them. I invested in the Invention Hulks in Mardu colors so I don't want to change my deck.

I have been testing Madu gearhulk reanimator against a lot of decks and particularly Vehicles and the RB aggro lists because that is what I believe will be at my LGS come gameday. I like how this list has many options that both deal with aggro and control in the MB, but in my experience what has given me a hard time more than any other card in RW vehicles was Gideon. When they get that curve from Gideon into Fleetwheel cruiser, if I cannot answer that some way as it is happening I have no hope of winning.
I think your mana might be good enough so consider replacing glare with Grasp of Darkness I think that you want to kill the copters before they get the chance to attack.
This deck looks real cool, I'm just curious though if this style can be implemented into a Jeskai deck? Blue just seems too strong right now to pass up. Plus protection from counters with counters. I was thinking
No sideboard yet, it's just an idea off the top of my head and curious to see what you guys think? Sorry if this is considering too off topic. If so just ignore me. Lol
Cards that well, not so much.... Radiant Flames (This is a trap due to the low number of aggro in my local meta so I won't buy into it completely) White Hulk (even thou It's card to get 2 for 1's with this guy a 4/5 Vig body is still very solid) Fragmentize Fumigate Ever After (I know, I know, but it's true)
The great news is that other than a few games vs Aetherworks Marvel I've felt I've been in every game. Excluding the stupid colorless monsters, I've not been blown out by any deck yet. I've yet to test Collective Brutality yet since it took FOREVER for mine to come but I now have them and hopefully will prove to be a huge add to my list.
Some of my struggles have been that I simply run out of threats. Only having 10-12 Hulks is defiantly a disadvantage. I've forced people to play an extra copy of Declaration in Stone, Transgress the Mind, and Angelic Purge. Hell, I even had a guy talking how he considered adding in Grip of Desolation for my list. (He dislikes cards like Shambling Vent and Needle Spires on top of the Hulks).
I've not got as many games vs aggro as I'd like to have but when 75% is blue based control I've got to do what I've got to do I guess (I feel this is exactly why this deck hasn't "caught on")
I'm very happy with my mana base. I feel it is very solid. No, I don't get consistent BB on turn 2 but fairly often by turn 4 I've got that in the bag. I'm surprised as to how the CitP tapped lands don't effect me as much as you'd think. I may have to wait a turn to cast a 6CC card due to the Vents, Spire, or Wilds to untap for my 6th. For that reason I've been hesitant to add in the 4th Needle Spires as the man-lands are amazing vs all the U going around.
I'm not an aggro player so obviously I don't get to get excited for the first 2 weeks or so of a standard rotation because it always aggro or some variant. Favourite Deck: Elves (Modern & Legacy)
Standard: New Perspectives Combo
Modern: GW Hatebears | Death and Taxes | Eldrazi and Taxes | Abzan Liege | Abzan Company
Commander: The Gitrog Monster (Combo) | Noyan Dar, Roil Shaper (Control) | RIP Leovold Sultai (Elvestorm, no unfair locks) | Mono G (Yisan or Titania)
Tiny Leaders: Too many decks to keep track of
Pauper: RIP UR Drake | Mono B | GBx Goodstuff | Jund "Melira"
I've been struggling to fit Kalitas in the list. I simply do not know what to take out or what's less powerful. So after I get some games in, the sideboard will become easier to construct and match ups will become less or more reliant on sideboard cards.

Standard: New Perspectives Combo
Modern: GW Hatebears | Death and Taxes | Eldrazi and Taxes | Abzan Liege | Abzan Company
Commander: The Gitrog Monster (Combo) | Noyan Dar, Roil Shaper (Control) | RIP Leovold Sultai (Elvestorm, no unfair locks) | Mono G (Yisan or Titania)

4 Scrapheap Scrounger
4 Prized Amalgam
3 Haunted Dead
1 Cataclysmic Gearhulk
4 Combustible Gearhulk
2 Noxious Gearhulk
Artifacts (4)
4 Smuggler's Copter
Sorcery (13)
4 Cathartic Reunion
4 Refurbish
4 Tormenting Voice
1 Ever After
2 Nahiri, the Harbinger
Lands (23)
3 Aether Hub
1 Concealed Courtyard
4 Evolving Wilds
1 Geier Reach Sanitarium
3 Inspiring Vantage
1 Island
3 Mountain
2 Plains
3 Smoldering Marsh
2 Swamp
4 Collective Brutality
3 Fragmentize
3 Radiant Flames
2 Transgress the Mind
3 Unlicensed Disintegration
Thoughts?
I would also advocate for a Liliana or two in the Mainboard, in the absence of Refurbish, her -2 will get you that creature back.
Ive wanted to try this style of deck ever since I saw it in an SCG article a few weeks back. I usually like aggro but it seems that if you want to play aggro you need 4 copters and im not willing to shell out 70-80 bucks for em.
4 Combustible Gearhulk
4 Noxious Gearhulk
2 Cataclysmic Gearhulk
1 Linvala, the Preserver
Planeswalkers
2 Nahiri, the Harbinger
Spells
2 Ever After
4 Refurbish
4 Cathartic Reunion
1 Tormenting Voice
3 Collective Brutality
2 Immolating Glare
4 Fiery Temper
1 Unlicensed Disintegration
2 Radiant Flames
4 Evolving Wilds
4 Smoldering Marsh
4 Inspiring Vantage
4 Shambling Vents
3 Mountain
2 Swamp
2 Plain
1 Geier Reach Sanitarium
I think your mana might be good enough so consider replacing glare with Grasp of Darkness I think that you want to kill the copters before they get the chance to attack.
3 torrential Gearhulk
4 combustible gearhulk
1 archangel avacyn
1 cataclysmic gearhulk
Planeswalkers
3 nahiri, the harbinger
Non-creature spells

3 radiant flames
2 glimmer of genius
3 void shatter
4 refurbish
2 anticipate
3 negate
1 skywhaler's shot
4 Aether hub
4 wandering fumanole
2 port town
3 spirebluff canal
3 island
3 plains
2 mountain
3 prairie stream
2 inspiring vantage
No sideboard yet, it's just an idea off the top of my head and curious to see what you guys think? Sorry if this is considering too off topic. If so just ignore me. Lol
Cards that have played VERY well.
Obviously the Red and Black Hulks
Nahiri, the Harbinger
Nahiri's Wrath (This is lights out vs Gideon)
Harsh Scrutiny (Very good vs anything with Avacyn, and Spell Queller)
Cards that well, not so much....
Radiant Flames (This is a trap due to the low number of aggro in my local meta so I won't buy into it completely)
White Hulk (even thou It's card to get 2 for 1's with this guy a 4/5 Vig body is still very solid)
Fragmentize
Fumigate
Ever After (I know, I know, but it's true)
The great news is that other than a few games vs Aetherworks Marvel I've felt I've been in every game. Excluding the stupid colorless monsters, I've not been blown out by any deck yet. I've yet to test Collective Brutality yet since it took FOREVER for mine to come but I now have them and hopefully will prove to be a huge add to my list.
For reference, here is my current list.
2 Concealed Courtyard
4 Evolving Wilds
1 Foreboding Ruins
3 Mountain
3 Needle Spires
2 Plains
4 Shambling Vent
4 Smoldering Marsh
3 Swamp
Creatures: (10)
2 Cataclysmic Gearhulk
4 Combustible Gearhulk
4 Noxious Gearhulk
3 Nahiri, the Harbinger
Spells: (21)
2 Cathartic Reunion
2 Collective Brutality
2 Ever After
3 Grasp of Darkness
2 Nahiri's Wrath
2 Radiant Flames
4 Refurbish
4 Tormenting Voice
2 Anguished Unmaking
2 Cataclysmic Gearhulk
2 Collective Brutality
1 Essence Extraction
2 Harsh Scrutiny
1 Lost Legacy
1 Radiant Flames
1 Ruinous Path
3 Transgress the Mind
EDIT: This list is non- Collective Brutality tested. I removed 2 Fragmentize, a Radiant Flames and a Ruinous Path for the set. Along with adding a Lost Legacy in place of Fumigate.
