Went to PPTQ with my list, 0-3 Drop. Played Temur Marvel, RG Pummeler and Sultai Marvel. I did make a mistake that might have put forced a game 3 in match one, played a puzzle knot for 1 with 2 mana and an inspector in hand, I should have played the 2nd inspector putting more potential damage on the board while casting the knot for free and helping out the rest of the game, my last attack with ulamog tapped I got him to 1 so, if that 2nd inspector had gotten in for 3 damage he doesnt attack but Flagship I had in play does the work?
In anycase RG pummeler comboed on me twice by turn 5 for uber damage, one turn I played cards instead of leaving mana up for Rebuke, mistake in hindsight.
Sultai maravel just ulamoged me to death, played Ishkanah and chumped and absorbed trample damage from cloak until ulamog showed up and exiled those Colossuses.
If you cant beat them join them, I think im done with this deck, came to realize I was under a false sense of success running this deck at my LGS, not good enough for higher competition.

Loving my Grixis colossus so far.
LOL, you absolutely right, HAHHAA
Still not the best deck but its mine.
I told others in the marvel thread to come check us out.
whats your current list looking like?
Following my failures with another builds, I'll be back to Colo as well and to my last grixis build.
Even zombies won't be a drama if they emerge, as I played 4x Radiant Flames and 4x Unlicensed Disintegration against any creature based deck to allow some extra time. That was my last known list, slightly updated with AKH (Fling and Fetid Pools), but untested yet. Although as I play 8 creatures only, perhaps vehicles could also be replaced.
Is there like a stock list of this deck I could start with on MTGO? It's so cheap and I have no standard deck, I might as well give it a try. I only see the one "Heavy Metal" deck on mtgtop8.com, thanks!

Can you start with mine, I got kids and stuff and dont have time to play online as much as I would like.
Otherwise this deck is completely under the radar!
^It does look interesting, I looked through all the builds on the last couple pages and they are all so different. Would like to see some gameplay of them to help decide.
SB, and what your overall SB plan against existing decks?
have you liked fling? have your Tried [card »
heart-piercer manticore[/card]?
I've not worked my SB for current meta yet, nor having got a chance to test Fling yet, perhaps this weekend..
Manticore seems to be a win-more card for me. Once Colo is on the battlefield, it's usually followed by one of his bros and it is very rarely from my experience that the game is not on a win course.
Win more??? If Manticore is 'Win-more' then I think the whole 'Fling' concept would be as well.
What I am thinking is that Fling by itself does nothing and there are no other creatures in the deck I want to fling. One can at least play manticore as a 4/3 creature that can crew a vehicle by itself and has Embalm so if it dies or gets discarded you can play it again; its like having 2 flings on one card.
Therefore I think that if one wanted to incorporate a 'Fling' ability, Manticore would be the way to go.
Completely Monocolored, no mana issues, makes your Colossi super evasive. The biggest surprise is how Padeem, Consul of Innovation feels like Dark Confidant but for 4 mana and the added hexproof bonus. Also, I feel like I want Key to the City almost every game.
Hey guys, if you're looking for a good place to start I had a very sweet (for the meta) colossus build before cat combo was broken. (1st pic)
Now that Marvel is out of the picture I've been working diligently on a new version since this is probably one of the better more explosive archetypes left.(2nd pic)

I had tried Herald over Inspector and this was my conclusion:
HeraldCons
-cant Crew our vehicles by itself(major)
-isnt an artifact for: Crane, spire of industry, inventor's fair, sack to get colossus back and for my deck I couldnt tutor it with Trophy Mage (major)
-have color requirement in CMC (Major)
-less attack power (minor)
Pros
-higher toughness against aggro decks (selling point)
-makes EDF cheaper (minor)
-would make a card like Kozilek's Return cheaper, one of the reasons I wanted to try it(selling point)

I have an event coming up and was considering playing Colossus, as I've had previous good luck with the deck.
Personally, I am not a big fan of either the Cranes or the Foundry Inspectors. I'd love to play a Foundry Inspector on t3 if I got to untap with it, but I've found that it never happens game 1. As for Crane, I try to focus on explosive power first and I don't like paying mana for something that doesn't reduce the cost of Colossus and much prefer a Puzzleknot, Prism, or Key.
Instead I'd prefer to invalidate creatures altogether since the top decks all rely on attacking. I was intrigued by the monoblue list running Engulf the Shore, but I am extremely worried the creatures in this metagame will rapidly grow out of it's range. Furthermore, this deck's explosive potential is contingent upon playing your Sanctums first, which is a nonbo if you need to use Engulf to survive. I also like Baral's Expertise and Skysovereign, but I think I'll stick with the gold standard of Fumigate.
Does anyone have strong opinions on the way I have constructed my deck? I'd love to entertain argument for Crane or Inspector. It's also possible 3 Reverse Engineer is totally unnecessary until after sideboard and I should replace some or all of those with more interaction. I am definitely worried about the Mardu matchup.

What about the use of Reverse Engineer? Its sorcery speed which sucks but its a potential 3 card draw spell for 2B
Reverse engineer is a good card if you want to draw cards but the age-old question is what do you take out? I think this deck should play 4 prisms and 4 puzzle knots so all of those are cantrips and I personally like crane because it digs for what you need and it's a good blocker early and I have three other creatures in my deck that I can team up with it to help crew a vehicle. A quick side note is that reverse engineer could cost one colorless and 2 blue instead of two colorless and one black. I think a deck with reverse engineer would be a completely different build overall one that is perhaps more controlling and doesn't play Foundry inspectors Etc
Sorry about not getting back right away, work and all.
Card choice:
Herald of Kozilek vs Foundry Inspector: It all comes down to the numbers on the card, Inspector dies to all early interaction in the meta decks especially those playing basic mountain. Losing a 3 drop to a shock and getting time walked is very bad. Opponents would be saving this removal anyways since it doesn't kill crane.
When I first included it was concerned with the colors being hard to hit by turn 3 but this is fixed by a couple things. 1.) Aggressive mulliganing, we have more incidental card draw than pretty much every deck so mulliganing down to 5 isn't so bad. 2.) Sequencing, playing the correct lands and being able to filter is very important.
Doesn't crew can be an issue but its irrelevant when that isn't our main game plan. Crewing a caravan to chip damage into any open mana and potentially losing it slows our tempo. We need a colossus on 5 or sooner and try to win on the next turn. Skysovreign attacks on turn 6, having a colossus crew it to kill a ground target on attack so the others can get in is usually what you want to be doing. Crane/herald/inspector all serve 2 purposes, ramp us into fast robots and have giant tappy squid blow out of them.
I liked reverse engineer when I first started playing the deck but realized that key to the city is just so much better.
Last weekend I drove out of state (barely) to the closest PPTQ so I could jam Decandio's list. His additions we'rent terribly impressive. The core of the deck was what got the wins and Herald of anguish seemed too clunky most of the time as it had a negative effect on your tempo to use it. Fatal push was pretty medium but what its good at killing isnt really much of a problem for the deck. I did like Ballista but it falls into the same trope as Fatal push, what it kills dies to something you should be running anyways. End result: Came in 3rd losing to Mardu vehicles in the semis in a very tight game 3 because of Thalia. If my land didnt come into play tapped I would have been able to play a colossus and emerge a deepfiend on his attack step once he animated heart clearing the board and untapping and winning on the spot. I was 1 mana short.
Changes i'd like to make:
I really want to shore up the results vs aggressive decks in game 1 and I think the best way to do that is more fire and calamari. The whole day I played I was wishing I had Kozilek's return in my main board so that people couldnt build board presence vs you. This is the list i'll be testing all week for another PPTQ for my last shot at the RPTQ invite. http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/20-06-17-ur-colossus/
I'd really like to fit Gonti's aether heartin here somewhere for the combo lol's but i'm not sure.
The problem with Gonti's Aether Heart is that it comes down after you've already thrown most of your artifacts onto the field; it's a bit counter productive to enable.
I'm curious on how 3 Elder Deep-Fiend will test for you. Unless you stick a Glint-Nest Crane onto the field, you have no real sacrifice outlets except for Metalwork Colossus, which will typically mean EDF comes down when you're looking to finish the game, and you have four lands that can tutor for EDF when you need it. You could use something like Tezzeret's Touch to enable your Prophetic Prisms and Metalspinners to become viable sacrifice outlets for the fiend (which you could then replay on your next turn to draw a card), but that would require you to go Grixis.
I like the idea of adding Harnessed Lightning, as it gives a good usage for your Aether Hub energy, but let us know how it tests for you.
I'm really excited for Mirage Mirror; it gives a lot of utility in letting us copy an opponent's creature and crew Cultivated Caravan (without having to run more creatures in the main), copying an opponent's Glorybringer to swing and exert and potentially sacrifice for EDF, or to just copy an on-field Colossus and swing for game. Thoughts on this card?
Please don't talk about new cards outside of Standard New Card Discussion until the entire set is spoiled. Thanks! -- Lugger
the deck is super well positioned now to win now that marvel is gone because we could not beat a turn 4 ulamog. i cannot stress the importance of cards like haunted cloak and key to the city enough. evasion is very key to helping out our vanilla 10/10's, and giving colossus 3 important keyword abilities is super relevant for winning before our oponent even sets up. haste is important because having a 10/10 beating down on turn 5 is pretty devastating for our opponent. vigilance is good because who wants to attack into a 10/10? and trample because...trample. key to the city lets you avoid any chump blockers they may have altoghether, usually at the cost of a land. to make the colossus destruction go off as soon as possible, none of your lands should enter tapped. this is why i feel going mono blue is the fastest way to make sure you win the game. for grindier matchups, bring in padeem. for counterspell decks, bring in negate, dispel and metallic rebuke. this deck will beat anything, from mardu to bg to uw flash to whatever, so keep beating down and smashing you way to victory!

I'm very excited for all of the new artifacts, proxy testing is going great but its hard to see what the meta will shape into.
For the Aether heart, if you have it in hand thats when you drop it and try to colossus chain. MOst of the time thanks to the hubs and harnessed lightnings you already have close to enough to sac it. I've also flirted with Deadlock traps for an additional energy source and a way to handle gideon before he can pressure us.
Please let me introduce myself.
I played magic for years.
Unfortunately my friends decided to take a break with magic so i followed them. (Don't know why...maybe it was not that fun to move to tourneys alone)
However, we started to play again this time with Standard (First was Legacy) and i decided to play this deck. I mean, i played Dredge before if you know what i mean regarding my decktypes
I just read the comments and took a closer look at the lists and the results:
Why is nobody talking about the first place with Grixis Colossus in Roanoke at SCG Invitational?
Redirus91 already posted the article from DeBrannon and i think to go Grixis is a good way.
I playtested this version a lot and i have to say: My friends don't wanna play with me anymore. Its like i win 80% of games.
In my location I play against Temur Energy, U/R Control, Zombies etc..all the top decks.
2 Pia's Revolution
4 Ravenous Intruder
2 Defiant Salvager
4 Implement of Ferocity
4 Implement of Improvement
2 Metalspinner's Puzzleknot
4 Prophetic Prism
Then you add your:
4 Foundry Inspector
2-3 Metalwork Colossus
4 Cultivators Caravan
1 Fling
1 Key to the City
Plus 21-22 lands and you should be good to go.
Any implement works, the cantrip is what's important.

Thanks! -- Lugger
my list is on the bottom of page 7
I'm very excited for all of the new artifacts, proxy testing is going great but its hard to see what the meta will shape into.
For the Aether heart, if you have it in hand thats when you drop it and try to colossus chain. MOst of the time thanks to the hubs and harnessed lightnings you already have close to enough to sac it. I've also flirted with Deadlock traps for an additional energy source and a way to handle gideon before he can pressure us.
Well see what they're replaced with when the new set comes out. As on now it's hard to imagine the deck without sanctum of ugin alone
