I went 6-2 in Chicago w/ tarmorack. The deck is sick. I could have easily gone X-O, but i could not find the second black to smallpox away my opponent's mystic enforcer, which beat me in the face ftw. I was suprized how much control there was. About half of my games were vs control (not a bad thing). Did anyone from Chicago see who ended up winning the whole thing, I had to go early.

The only difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has its limits.
i went 3-4 with wild pair blink. i won 3 games with the opponent having 0 permanents on board and won game swinging with 2 bottle gnomes...vs. a predator deck.
things ive realized are amazing:
chandra nallar (seriously...freakin reusable creature kill)
wort, boggart aunt
garruk
i forgot what else im really tired.
In what universe? If you build a deck like that, and ever draw that hand, I will personally come to wherever you live, perform complicated acts of awestruck *********, then disembowel myself to escape the world that allowed something like to to occur and validate you.
Snow White
MWC (with martyr's but more creatures, slightly more aggro control I guess)
Teachings
Black Blue Korlash
RB Goblins x2
Poorlash
Turbo Fog (me)
In the swiss I went 7-1, and I got Top 8 at Florida states, but lost first round of the T8 to Pollen Lullaby of all cards.
Go figure.
Also, I won a Doran from the random drawings, but they told me I couldn't get two, so the one I was going to win from getting into T8 was randomly given away to someone else. Oh well.
The T8 from Florida was:
2x Gw Elves
1x Gb Elves
1x Gb Rock with Hakkon
2x Teachings
1x UW Blink
1x Goblins
I played 2 U/B and a Tarmorack with my U/W Howling Mine/Forced Fruition deck... needless to say I dropped and drafted after round 3.
I knew 2 or 3 of the people in the Top 8, that was cool.
1. UGW Blink
2. Tarmorack
?. Goblins
Sorry, don't remember anything else. I did see this really interesting Land.dec, though - The guy played Crucible of Worlds, a couple planeswalkers, manlands, and Mouth of Ronom. Very interesting - I think he was in the prizes (top 16).
Also: I'd wager that a fourth to a third of the field was playing some version of Tarmorack. Ridiculous...
T8: Brian Breedwell, Elves
T8: Michael Eskridge, U/B Madness
T8: Adam LeGear, Mono-Green Dourbark
T8: Blair Simpson, U/W/R control
T4: Todd Anderson, U/G Tempo
T4: Jay Owen, R/G aggro
T2: Zack Kitchens, U/B control
T1: Greg Wilder, Merfolk
I played WW Kithkin and scrubbed out and I should have played Predator instead, I think. I play at the same store as Adam, Jay and Greg so it was a nice outing by my friends.
NOTE: I didn't see deck listings and didn't watch every match all the way through so my archetype listings above are approximate.
todd was playing UWG blink. seemed reasonable, i mean, merfolk is apparently a bad matchup for that.
I also played in CT, went 4-3. Not terrible, but I think I've given up tarmorack for good. Most of the matches I won, I won barely, and each of the ones I lost, I lost by a mile. Oh well.
Oregon State Champ was not in the cards for me this year. After a disappointing 1-2-2, I dropped (shouldn't have even played that long). I picked up the Legacy Control deck (and made the remark several times throughout the day that I shoulda played Nova Express) and was immediately won over by it...but I just couldn't draw what I needed. I knew the day wasn't going to go my way after a first round loss to KITHKIN!!?? How the heck do I lose to Kithkin...and not even GOOD Kithkin...Kithkin w/ Glorious Anthem and Griffin Guide!! A deck running 12+ removal spells...it made my head hurt. Second round was a DRAW against Merfolk. (That was my other complaint about the deck...it takes too long...) Third round was my win v. Doran...straight up wrreckage. Fourth round was a nail-biter v. U/B Teachings that saw us split games one and two and take it into extra turns...only to lose on Turn 5 to some Triskelavus manipulations...booo-urns. Fifth round was against the Slow-Play Champ...he was running U/B/w Teachings...with a Aven Riftwatcher recursion engine that was just slow and boring. I scooped first game after he got good board position...and he just slow-rolled me second game until time expired...I hate people who play like that..but such is life.
It was just disappointing to spend so much time playtesting, running hours of gauntlets over the course of weeks+ and to take a deck you really like v. the expected meta only to realize that the meta didn't show up.
As I spent most of the day saying..."..shoulda played Nova Express...shoulda played Nova Express..."
In what universe? If you build a deck like that, and ever draw that hand, I will personally come to wherever you live, perform complicated acts of awestruck *********, then disembowel myself to escape the world that allowed something like to to occur and validate you.
Went 6-2 at Oregon states playing my build of predator justice... I titled it "Sweet Predator".
I almost made top 8... 12th, with four other 6-2 players above me, a grand total of one 6-2 in the top 8. There was around 300 people at teh start I heard. Too ****ing many, made our top 8 consist entirely of people with one loss or less... of well. I got twelve packs for making top 16. Got chandra, R/W dual, Teeg, some uncommons I needed. Well worth it.
Could anyone placing in the top 4 of their respective States/Champs event be so kind as to give a decklist on here and maybe what they might have wanted to change? I would be most appreciative, as I'm sure many of our other forum members and readers would be too. Thank you in advance and congratulations to everyone who performed well.:)
Can we see your MBC list, or redirect it to us if it's on this site already? I'd like to know which cards you used that worked out, and which ones didn't.
Sure, here it is- I hope I get the deck tags right
1 B/U teachings
1 B/U/w blink
1 U/W pickles (one with a blink engine and Epochrasites and one without
1 mono blue pickles
1 B/G/W Doran
1 Mono red
1 Red/Green aggro
1 Elves
Elves beat red/green aggro.
mono red beat doran.
3 color blink beat u/w pickles
u/w pickles with blink beat teachings
u/w pickles with blink beat u/w/b blink
mono red beat elves
U/W pickles beat mono red
As for me, I failed to win either of my last two matches to not make top eight. I'm pretty sure I misplayed somewhere in the second game of round seven that would have put me in top eight had I won. (He ended the game at one life and I felt like I might have played a little loose on a few turns)
Our deck (U/B Harvest evoke mannequin deck AKA Harvest Moon AKA For Grandma) did pretty well though, from the initial reports that are rolling in. Second at New York, and I think first and second in Virginia.
I can give most of West Virginia States, but I left after the top 4 started playing
Top 4
Paired by who was playing when I left
Mono Red Ben Visnic
G/B Rack Ben Angel
G/U Aggro Peter Sjostedt
not sure on deck or person
Top 8
R/G Aggro Jim Aracich
U/B w/R Teachings not sure on person
I don't remember the other 2
I played G/w Aggro control and went 2-4 before dropping. I played against Peter Sjostedt with G/U Aggro and got beat down by a 10/7 Warhammered Aeon Chrinicler. Played against R/U block deck that beat me down with some quickly unsuspended Deep-Sea Krakens, beat G/B/U something, beat a R/W Stuffy Burn deck, lost to a Mono Black removal deck with Korlash, and lost to a Mono Black Rack deck.
I felt I got very screwed, but everyone may say that. All I can say is: Nananananananana ME!
Though, to be honest, I got more screwed by not drawing needed cards against the aggro decks. B/W control can't really beat those decks when it draws all the wrong cards in all the wrong orders.
well in MB it was an excellent choice, plus unlike what seems to be the case for most turbofog players, I'm actually a good player

I would have kept my maindeck the same. I would have played a different sideboard though since there was only one goyf rack player there and no pickles. I would have liked to have had Imperial Mask against shenanigans
I wish I had put Dunerider Outlaws in the sideboard- Rack was nonexistent and not many G/B builds played discard.
Actually, it was G/B Rock reincarnation.
The deck is a $700 beast featuring these (not all 4 ofs) in MD/SB:
Thoughtseize $25ea
Damnation $28ea
Tarmogoyf $35 ea
Masked Admirers $15 ea
Nameless Inversion
Treetop Village $3 ea
Gilt-Leaf Palace $12 ea
Llanowar Wastes $8 ea
Loxodon Warhammer $3 ea
Garruk Wildspeaker $25 ea
Call of the Herd $15 ea
Profane Command $6 ea
Extirpate/Tormod's Crypt
Shriekmaw
Wall of Roots
Harmonise - 1/2 I think
Troll Ascetic $12ea
Naturalise
($ - AUD :p)
It game first as well as placing a spot in the semi's. The 3rd entry lost the mirror in qf's. Not sure on the EXACT list and the deck is certainly not a secret by any means but it's def. a monster. Garruk, Damnation, Thoughtseize, Treetop Village and probably Masked Admirers are the core of the deck. Tarmogoyf as alway is just plain great. Troll's, g/y removal and a mix of aggro/control improvers are the SB.
The reason for throwing prices up there is just to indicate that whilst the deck is very powerful in the abstract... it ain't cheap, so don't feel bad if you can't throw it together overnight.
Like any true rock deck it doesn't have a particularly bad match up (TurboFog/combo comes to mind though), however it doesn't have a particularly great match up either. It wins attrition wars using the ridiculous Masked Admirers engine and Garruk Wildspeaker.
Do any of you CT guys know how the top eight turned out?
There was at least one other guy playing a G/B Haakon deck because I lost to it before I dropped. I was playing a thallid deck that I threw together really quickly -- it was fun but I had no answers to recursive Nameless Inversion. I saw another guy playing G/B Haakon who went to time against another G/B deck -- I think they drew so that would be at least two more Haakon decks for you (EDIT: actually, I just remembered that they were in game two so if they drew that one then whoever won the first one would have won -- so maybe that was you shminkledorf).
Also, if anyone knows how NY or MA turned out, I'd appreciate if they posted it.
I drew badly in two games: Game two of round four which became my only match loss in the swiss, and game three of the top8... I was forced to mulligan to six in the fourth round kept two lands and didn't draw a third land for my goblin king. Game three of the top 8 I mulliganed a 1 mountain hand into a 1 graven cairns hand into a one mountain hand which I kept. I drew a second land on turn four, but by then it was inevitable that I would not be taking home the plaque.
I went 2-3-1 drop at NY States playing Snow White.
R1 - Tarmorack: Win. Hoofprints and suspending Chronicler were the nut high.
R2 - Teachings Mid-Range without Teachings: Draw. Mesa was huge the first game, but Shriekmaw and timely Cryptic Commands wrecked me the second.
R3 - U/G/W (possibly Blink) - Loss. Mulldrifter, Venser, Saffi, Mystic Snake, and Familiar's Ruse - that's just sick.
R4 - Doran Doran - Win. Mesa and DOUBLE Gauntlet? GG.
R5 - Harrison Tietze playing Pickles - Loss. Playing things were either "damned if I do, damned if I don't."
R6 - G/B Aggro - Loss. Shriekmaw is still a house and even Mesa couldn't save me.
Card MVP - Sacred Mesa. Drop a Gauntlet and the game is over.
Least Valuable Card - Martyr of Sands? They rarely showed up, despite me packing a playset. They're still good.
My friend Jim Davis made top 8 at States playing Teachings, and Flores went 0-2 drop. lol
