Played this to a 4-0 double ID PPTQ with 45 players.
Was 2nd seed.
Lost in quarters to a worse version of my deck but I drew like a donk so my opponent could've been playing a sandwich and won.
The SB plan is actually insane. 100% the best part of the deck.
I'm testing this version and I'm really happy with test result, I'll play this weekend with it, hope get good results. What you use sideboard for? I played a lot of time with Naya version, with Nahiri's and never used this kind of sideboard.
Can you detail which card from sideboard did you use and in which situation will you need it? I'm don't know what do you mean with walkers or what's the purpose you use the Dynavolt Tower.

This deck is now probably unplayable. The format has changed alot. GB is far from top dog.
Anyway. Smasher and TKS comes in vs. Jeskai Saheeli. However, just Smasher comes in vs. 4c. 4c plays a million chandras.
Shock and Release are super obvious -- cars. Dynavolt comes in vs. Saheeli to keep them off of combo/kill them. I will often side out Ulamogs, World Breakers and sometimes Marvels -- if it doesn't do anything. Some number of KReturn can come out in MUs where it doesn't hit anything.
t4 Gideon is a problem for this deck -- which is why I'd be hesitant to sleeve it up now.

shocks and thopter have done well keeping my oppo gideons in check, either chumping or attacking.
So I had this plan that I would be playing Decimator with creatures in play and over run, but the format has a lot of removal and the top decks have creatures bigger than mine so try decimator was lame.
Back to Ulamog, don't know why I ever doubted it, oh well.
This is a list I played to a Top 8 finish in a 30ish person local tournament. I only dropped 2 games until the top 8 where my luck seemed to run out when I died to some pretty aggressive draws from my Mardu Vehicles opponent while having double Liliana, Death's Majesty and only one black source. But that's Magic for you. Anyway, here's where I started.
The deck was pretty good, even though I hadn't played a game with it beforehand. It was a list I threw together the night before the tournament. I built the board mainly targeting Control and Mardu. Though, I feel I misbuilt the sideboard. I knew the deck would struggle quite a bit against Control. Especially the two color versions, particularly UR Control. My game plan for almost all control matches is to jam threats until they run out of gas, all while playing around Censor if I can. I only played against Control once in the tournament, but as I predicted, it was strenuous. Every card I cast I felt had around a 25-30% chance of resolving. But eventually I ran the opponent out of resources and took over the game.
Throughout the swiss, I faced two G/B (2-0, 2-1), one UR Control (2-1), and one Mardu (2-0), ID into Top 8 . I felt by far my deck was the sweetest thing that was played that day. As you can see, I had a bit of spice in the list. The card Heart-Piercer Manticore, in most cases pretty terrible card, and throughout the tournament I boarded it out almost every game. But it was a cute, and I thought it would provide me some reach in some aspect. I obviously regretted it being in my 75 most of the time. But in the Top 8 match, I did live the dream by attacking with an Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger then Flinging it to OTW my opponent. But I would have much rather had a card like Manglehorn as a bullet instead of the auto-board out cute card.
I have since removed that card, and have been testing Demon of Dark Schemes. The card has been pretty stellar. Being able to EOT reanimate an Ishkanah, Grafwidow, Noxious Gearhulk, or a Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger is insane for obvious reasons. I've had to add another black source to accommodate this change, but I think it's well worth it.
As far as the board, I've been testing a few changes as well. I like Sweltering Suns, the cycling is beneficial, but double red is hard for this deck to get on time. I'm making a clean switch out to Radiant Flames. I may even go down to one copy, since I was really only boarding in one. It does the same thing early game, and late game when I have any combination of colors I can Radiant Flames for one to clear a majority of Mardu's team and still keep my spider tokens around. I also removed the walker from my board as well. She just wasn't really needed/relevant in Control matchups, which is where I planned to side her in. I know she's pretty good against other midrange decks, but I felt this deck just does the midrange game better with a game ending top end. Also, she's just another threat to get countered by the copious amounts of countermagic they have/bring in. Now I think the best way to beat them is attack their hand. That's why my board will be filled with hand disruption, probably 6-8 spells, but I need to make sure I don't dilute the deck too much. I think the matchup is definitely winnable post-board. I don't know if I'd go as far as playing a card like Prowling Serpopard. I don't play a ton of creatures, and I'd rather most of my noncreature spells resolve instead of my creature spells since I can reanimate them with Liliana, Death's Majesty. But it is an option if control becomes a tier one strategy, plus it's a 4/3 beater for 3 which isn't too shabby. I like my cards to interact with Mardu, so I don't think I need to change any of those numbers. That matchup really depends on how fast you resolve and spin marvel and/or how much removal you have.
I'm sure the deck can be built better. But I think it was good attempt/starting point for this specific color scheme/build for Marvel.
I'm seriously considering taking this list to a PPTQ this weekend. Is there anyone experienced with this list who can offer a general sideboard guide? I'm struggling with the sideboard strategy vs control, especially U/R control. What exactly is the plan? What is suppose to come out of the deck when most of the cards are live? Remember that UR brings in Thing in the Ice and Dragonmaster Outcast. Thanks in advance for any input.
I haven't seen any mention here of Sam Lowe's list from the SCG classic, a Bant list that placed 1st. Has been good in testing so far. Aether Meltdown is great against quite a few things. Especially great to nullify Zombies and Scrapheap rather than putting them in the yard where they can just be reanimated. Fumigate at instant speed when it happens is also a blast. Only thing I've been stumped on is how to sideboard for game 2 and 3 against Mardu thanks to them frequently bringing in more Planeswalkers. I know Tireless Trackers should come in, but no idea what to take out.
Thalia's effect seems to work pretty well too against us, delaying board wipes, cast outs, and marvels really hurts.
Im currently running bant, with 4 negate and 4 disallow in the main to help with the control matchup, which is actually helped alot. I too havent had much trouble with the aggro matchup, between lifegain and the removal package of meltdown, castout and fumigate.
The control MU is horrendous, to say the least. If you are playing the temur version game 1 is basically a free win for them and g2 even after sb things don't look better. All the other MU including mardu are good to slightly good for us.
Definitely dont agree, guess it depends on your 75 and strategy.
Show us your 75 and how your would SB against the MU.
Radekas is obviously right about Sphinx, but we don't win with Instants and Sorceries, so it's not as good for us as it is in the Control on Control match-up. I've had a lot of good fortune with Elder Deep Fiend. The tap ability is a cast trigger, so I just emerge it for a Refiner or Whirler at end of their tun and tap all their blue sources. That usually leaves an opening I can squeeze a Marvel into and then (hopefully) Ulamog. I also board in a bunch of Dispels/Negates for G2/3.
