My current Jund build. Dynavolt Tower has been over performing but I believe 2 is about all you want in the deck. I tend to either have to much energy or not enough in the later stages of a game and Tower has been great in shoring up these holes. I mean who doesn't like getting 4 energy off of an Attune with Aether and then turning that into a Lightning Bolt with minimal help. I dropped Voltaic Brawler for the Towers as I felt Brawler was the weakest creature. Give it a Whirl and see what you think.
this is the deck i'm now taking into FNM. it's a creature-heavy jund deck that aims to flood the board with creatures and utilize snek, rishkar and nissa to increase my energy input and help beef up creatures
I would say Lifecrafter's Bestiary could be valuable in the Jund version as a source of card draw/scry in slower matchups; I haven't tried it out in that context but generally found it redundant in a Temur deck with Rogue Refiner and Jace, Unraveler of Secrets.
I'm currently considering a switch to the Temur Tower build, but I am quite intrigued by the inclusion of Dynavolt Tower as a 2-of as seen above to help level out energy counters and provide some extra burn, as I have had a similar experience of often ending a game with more energy than I know what to do with. Still, I'm not sure it helps in the early game, which is where I've experienced more issues with this deck. Maybe that's just my lack of Heart of Kiran though.
2-Drop, 2-Drop + Greenbelt Rampager, into double 2-Drop or 2-Drop, Rishkar, into 5-Drop is what can make the deck have an aggressive board state on Turn 4 on the play. Heart of Kiran is pretty important to increasing the threat I'd agree, but there's nothing wrong with x2 Voltaic Brawler, a Rampager, Longtusk Cub, and a Scrapheap Scrounger threatening on the board either. On the draw you have a lot of removal options to control the board state and eventually slam down your own threats. Not to mention Rampager can wall off a large number of aggressive threats out there today. Dynavolt Tower I think would do better in a deck devoted to it like you say given I don't like potentially slamming down 3 mana worth of something that can't do anything, and a lot of our creature drops don't futher the Tower plan enough. Temur Tower Control is really good though so I doubt you'd be disappointed with moving into that.
Went to GPNJ this weekend and played in the side Standard tournaments. First round I tried out Temur Tower but it wasn't working out so I switched back to Temur Energy for the rest of the weekend. Here's the list I settled on by day 3:
I started the weekend with a lower curve but kept getting blown out by planeswalkers in game 1 so I brought the Skysovereigns back to the mainboard. With the exception of some very frustrating games vs. 4-color Saheeli, I was quite satisfied with the deck's performance. I went at least 2-2 in three of the five tournaments, and could have done significantly better if I'd prepared properly and not misplayed several key games. I played against a ton of Copycat, a few B/R and Mardu aggro decks, two Temur Tower and one G/B Constrictor. Highlights included:
-baiting out a Torrential Gearhulk vs. Tower to include it in a Release the Gremlins
-hitting a Glimmer with the sideboarded Dispel (same match)
-numerous opponents' reactions to me dropping Hellion G2, T3
-G1 use of the mainboard Natural State vs. Heart of Kiran was a lifesaver
I lost my only game against B/G Constrictor so I'm still not sure on that matchup. My only real issue is getting through all the planeswalkers in 4C Copycat; I may need more Negate in the sideboard, probably in place of Heroic Intervention (never used) and Dispel (useful but not critical).
Aethersphere Harvester would fit in as a direct sub, but I think if you go without the Heart of Kiran it'd be better to make sure you have the black for Winding Constrictor and go that kind of route.

my build's already tight, if i'm going to have snek, i have to remove scrapheap scrounger. if do that, i also have to remove my unlicensed disintegration.

Disintegration is still good without the extra 3 damage. I've been tuning up my deck and adding black to it. I had the same conundrum over snake vs. scrounger. I went with scrounger ultimately because of the mana requirements for snake. The fact that we might get 3 extra damage off disintegration with the scrounger, and the easier mana requirements is why I chose scrounger in the end. Scrounger is also just a little extra card advantage for us in a deck without much. If they fatal push your snake, you're not getting it back. Fatal push a scrounger on our side of the field? No problem.

i ultimately ended up with scrounger. not just because of beat stick reasons but it makes my opponent think twice on wasting a removal on it. when snek dies, it dies, but with scrounger, they have to exile it to remove it completely. plus, i'm an aggro deck, since my local meta is full of midrange and control, but mostly the latter, my graveyard is full of creatures, which adds fuel to scrounger. another thing is it can crew my vehicles with no problem whatsoever. an unremovable hydra plus a recurring scrounger is glorious to see on the board, since my opponent needs to do alot of things in a turn just to clear the board.
That's a good point about Hydra paired with Scrounger. I traded my Hydras in for Tireless Tracker and an Arlinn Kord. Not sure if this is the right move. My reasoning is that I have to play around a tapped land on the 4th turn sometimes Tracker can be played turn 4 with a tapped land and give me card advantage, something the deck really needs. (Plus turns on Unlicensed Disintegration!)
I'm back to playing r/g energy and this is my first attempt with a black splash. Feedback is welcome. Know that my FNM thankfully doesn't have many netdecks. I don't have to fight a plague of crazy cat ladies and b/g snakes, but there are a couple of each of these decks at FNM.
The mana base has been very tricky for me. I want to continue to play Chandra as she wins games for me, but double red is kind of tough. I think this most recent incarnation does the trick at 22 lands, but I've had to concede to playing 2 servant of the conduit in order to do so. I'm considering taking out an Aether Hub for a forest. Having lots of green mana keeps the Elephants dropping and 1/2 land hands alive.
I've also considered playing 1 or 2 fatal push mainboard in place of, or next to harnessed lightning. I shied away from fatal push initially as the black mana wasn't quite there. This mana base can handle fatal push mb I believe.
Tips on playing the deck, manabase, sideboard et.?
we have the same build, only i have no rishkar, gearhulk, walkers and heart. i used to have rishkar, but he keeps on choking up in my games. i ultimately exchanged him for other creatures. this is the build i'm currently playing and it has won mean FNM and finished 3rd on a GPT.
Now that Cat is banned, lets talk about RGx Energy and the new cards.
I'll start us off:
Variants on Shock are important. Dealing with Scrapheap Scrounger is the real deal.
I think this card stinks. Probably will be good if you have a madness theme.
Good if you need a 1 drop. Kinda' under powered unless you're trying to go-wide.
Not really something I had in mind. Probably good for the RW Humans lists. However, we're typically not wide or fast enough to reasonably play a 1/1 for 1 and have it be a serious play. Maybe the combo lists will be interested?
Again, not super useful if you're only attacking with 1-2 relevant threats.
I love this in Gruul Blitz decks. Something to think about.
I don't love this but it could just be good enough.
If we can ever develop a recursion sub-theme that'd be great. Until then, flinging Lathnu Hellions and Scrapheap Scroungers is probably the extent of what we're doing.
'nuff said.
I like this but it is hard to cast. Good SB tech for the inevitable humans lists.
Combo piece?
Cool cool. Probably not something the midrange lists really need.
It depends on how the format shakes out. It could be worse than Servant. It could be better.
This will probably be used -- however, I foresee it being a budget beater more than a format staple.
Probably not. Who knows though, once upon a time Brushstrider top 8'd an open.
You don't have to splash black to kill a Heart of Kiran any longer.
Doesn't seem like a vital mana dork.
When this card was first spoiled, I thought it had flash (cause I'm dumb, ok?). I compiled a half dozen lists, all built around the fact that I thought this card had flash.
This card does not have flash.
I no longer have any lists with this card.
This card is bananas. I'm in love.
Probably not?
Hippo tribal is always a potential theme next block. They've been waiting in the wings for years.
My suspicion is that this card is very good in MUs where tracker is also good. It depend on how things shake out. Dies to chandra though.
Either the blitz or combo lists want to try something like this. Could be super terrible or great.
This card is a reasonable magic card. I do think it's something to keep in the RGx box as a potential SB contender.
3cmc mana dorks are yet to catch any traction in standard. Cool for Reality Smasher and World Breaker decks.
Give her a hat and she's still a 3/4 for 5.
She's slow and doesn't protect herself. She needs things to be going right for her to take over the game. C+ at best.
What. Why do they keep printing 3/3s for 3 in RG?
Better in the ramp decks than here. Still, something to be aware of as an option if you happen to go bigger.
Other stuff:
Honestly, I have no idea. I do like evasion and flash.
This card is fundamentally powerful. I like it in 3 or 4 color energy lists.
tried playing khenra charioteers, samut, manglehorn and rhonas as proxies in a jund energy aggro deck. all four are crazy bonkers as a two of in the deck, especially samut and rhonas. the god can be easily activated and samut, even if she is a 3/4 for 5, at the end of the day she is still a flashy vigilance, haste, double striker that gives everyone haste and she will deal six straight to the face. to make it worse for our opponents, pump her with invigorated rampage or rush of adrenaline and give her trample. as for manglehorn, it's a great value card since it hates all decks that rely too much on artifacts like vehicles, aetherworks and tower decks.
The two cards not talked about I wondered are: Fling nothing special but sometimes if you can't protect your 5/5 beater, it would be nice to send it straight to their face. Rhonas's Monument getting a boost and trample for a creature every time you play a new creature could offer value. The scattered mana reduction isn't a bad bonus. The problem I see is turn 3 is crowded spot with ramp making it where we see a lot of 4 drops. With the rampager, you could get two triggers in a single turn for GG.
Glorybringer eats Gideon for breakfast so yeah I'd put that in. Just make sure to wait until release day to get them because the pre-order price is rather high for a rare card. I'm seriously kicking myself for not having the money available to buy cards when the thing was 1.50.
