And Besides Magus of the Jar can find my megrim
and i can't believe you don't think nihilith is good your crazy just try the deck
if you don't get megrim Nihilith can win you the game

Um, I am not stupid. i know full well that Nihilith is excellent. HOWEVER, this deck could probably use the slots for something else, since it tends to win without Nihilith. Perplex would be better I think, or even Drift of Phantasms. One plays into your combo while protecting it, and the other defends your life total, so you can go off. They also both transmute. I see these as being more relevant than Nihilith which, even though very good, only mattered in one game in one match that you showed. Even then, it was against a dredge deck, and thus was at it's prime, and still it only mattered one time!
I love Nihilith, but I don't think it has a home here, since there are just better, more synergistic cards you could be running.
i know your not stupid thanx for the imput test a build then post it please

I built your exact deck, ran it for 5 matches (1 D-Storm, 1 Gruul, 1 Bridge, 1 Dralnu, and 1 random rogue deck that I own, a Arcum Dagsson control deck).
I found that it can win if it disrupts D-Storm. If not, then pretty much own your face. It always came down to me transmuting a clutch for a Void and Voiding them turn 4. If I could do that, I tended to rip their best card, and won. If not, they beat me. I won the match 2-1.
Gruul was hard. It was just too fast. I never had enough defense. Sure, I had some bounce (which ate their scab-clan maulers), but it just wasn't enough. I died to burn twice, one time with Megrim and Magus on board, but summoning sick, the other with just a Megrim, since they kept killing my Magus and swinging in. I lost 0-2, though I think it's just because I am inexperienced with the deck.
Bridge is the only time I ever wanted to use Nihilith, and here it shined. Every game I had Nihilith turn 2, and every game I won because of it. It was that and disruption each time. I won 2-0.
Dralnu was difficult. I found that I had to bait out their counters with bounce targeting something of importance (colored land, Dralnu, Teferi, etc) and then slam Magus/Megrim. Once that was on the board, it was all over. I won 2-1.
The Arcum deck was... odd. It's a counter-based control deck that uses Arcum to go get an Akroma's Memorial and a Coat of Arms and Sliversmith to make big sliver tokens. This deck just plowed through it, since it doesn't have enough counters to stop the threats. I won 2-0.
Overall, I was just disappointed in a few cards. One, the Nihilith's I seriously WANTED them to be good.... but they just weren't. They did great against the dredge deck though, leading me to believe that they are in fact good sideboard cards. Two, the Wishful Thinking's. These were a nice touch, and sorta fun if you have a Megrim out, but I didn't really want to cast them often. If I didn't have a Megrim, I never wanted to use it. I think as a one-of tutor target though, I can see it working out. Three, almost the whole sideboard. Extirpate I can understand (and actually like in this deck, esp after a Mindstab). Same with Trickbind and Persecute. However, why the Grave Peril's, Pongify's, and the single Grim Harvest (I get the Harvest, but think it may be a wasted slot, since it IS only a one-of, in the side)?
Here would be my altered version of the deck (note: I've yet to run this, due to time constraints, but I'll give it a whirl soon enough):
The only notes I'll make here are that I always was wanting for some way to stop that burn spell, or to save that Megrim, or whatever. I tried to address that, while keeping your theme going, and playing to the deck's strengths (hence Perplex, since it goes to get both Megrim and Wishful Thinking).
My final note is that I do really enjoy the deck, and think you've got a great deck here. It just needs some polishing up before it goes out and wins Nats!
What's the purpose of Cluth of the Undercity? The bouncing ability isn't that great compared to wipe away or boomerang. Is there something you transmute it for?
It goes for Damnation. However, it really better than Wipe Away or Boomerang in this deck, mostly because of the 3 life loss. The combo only does 14 damage, so what you do is combo out, then Clutch something, then they discard one extra card, taking them to 1 from 20. You also can use Clutch+Soul Spike+the combo to kill them. It's not only resource denial, but partial win condition.
Kool glad you tested the deck and i will try your version.
you got three slots open in the side trust me put Grave Peril there. they will be for the aggro match up, they can kill anything they throw out next be it a magus of the moon to a Giant Solifuge. think of Grave Peril as a preemptive TERROR that does care for Targeting or protection
And Nihilith is bigger than most of gruuls creatures and only dies to a char which is good cuz it wont be aimed at your face
And you list looks awsome too wiill test it soon

i was gonna test it first befor stating anything though
O and BloodyDoves how did your deck list perform, Solid?
Side out bounce for Grave Perils against Gruul and throw in those Nihiliths too
it should beable to win, buts its stilll its hardest match
Pongify was the because you could potencially destroy any creature for 1 Blue mostly that Korlash and Bogarden Hellkite
then bounce the token
o and i haven't really tested the Grim Harvest was just a good idea to re-use Magus or get it back in case I mill it to Void or it runs into any trouble.

1. Swap careful consideration for Wistful Thinking, ADV: Discard 4, no card advantage, often the whole hand gone. DIS: Sorcery.
2. Why is Nihilith SB? It fits in well and is good against Control and Aggro, also it fits beautifully with the deck (as originally planned of course) 4/4 Haste for 2 is nothing bad. Keep it MD
3. Run at least 2 Extirpate MD, if they discard a Dragonstorm or Bridge, you'll win the match then and there.
I'll test, but all of the above seem logical to me. I'll also provide some results for you.
I found that Nihilith is a better sideboard card, since it's really only needed against decks that abuse the grave (of which there are not so many). Against said decks, it's crazy. Against anything else, it's not so much, though still decent. I'd consider them as a 2-3 of, but not a full complement MD.
I don't like Wishful Thinking much. I like a one-of for Clutch to go and get, but that's it. It's just clunky. Consideration can still hit you and dig without much pain, which is why i like it over Thinking. In a pinch, Consideration also slams the other guy for 6. I want versatility in my draw, thanks.
The MD Extirpate is an interesting idea, but I'm still in favor of it SB. That's just me though.

It's performing just fine. I like it a bit better than the originally posted version, just because it's really more my style (I like having an answer or two on hand, and Dismal Failure/Perplex give me that). However, 4 Failures is too many. I'm working on what to do with that number (I'm thinking 2 Failure and 2 [insert sekret tech here] :D).
Nice use of Pongify. Didn't stop to think about it. Same with Grave Peril. I'll give Peril a shot, though I just don't like the Pongify (fun card, but not really that great IMO).
Oh, and Tombstalker. Urr, not totally sure about that. I don't like it much here, but once more, that's just me. It is a cool idea though. Once again, maybe in the SB with my last few slots.

I see what you mean by you like more defense
i like the ideas and messed around with it allittle more and came up with this
damnation wasn't that good when you could bounce and discard using the combo.
Tombstalker is a good 1 of MD cuz when you activate magus you gonna wanna have some follow through and playing alotta spells for a low cost is keen
tapping 2 Black for a 5/5 flyer then removing to cards for Soul Spike and removing a blue card to bounce something into the jar hand. and playing a megrim all in the same turn is awsome.

I found the Grave Peril's to be really quite nice against Gruul. Good call there LAZ!
As for my super sekret tech.... The Rack!! It's the key I've found to ensureing that they are dead cookies right after the Megrim hand. I just Soul Spike (bringing them to 2) and the Rack typically kills them, since they've got no hand (or only one-two cards).
Until I find a much better update, I'm going to suggest this version, since I really feel it is balanced and strong all around. Once more, great job designing the deck LAZ, it's really quite top notch!
And i did try the rack but i was sub par in the deck at the time
But i didn't have Dismals in at the time either so coulda been why
Dismals are nice they Counter 2x Spells kinda like Rewind but combos with Megrim
i was testing Totem as a 1 of that perplex could get, also a finisher which this deck some times falls short a few points from the Win but I will try the rack again
o that second build had only 20 land which wasn't good sometimes but i uped the Dreadships to 4 becuz its always a good thing to have one early in the defensive version
------------------------------------------
all the bounce doesn't go great with the racks but its still good I'd say a 3 of

You've surprised me, this deck is incredibly efficient. I prefer Laz's build but a couple of extra lands are good. I have tested the Rack and it is excellent.
Thanks, No one believed me but I hope this makes it to the competitive once i take it to a few tournies.
Yeah i know the land ratio is a bit shakey, still messing with the ratios
I had signets in there but it messes up the Sligh of the deck and stone rain is not in Xth and signets can get countered witch blows
anyways glad you like the decki was thinking of puting in 1x Disrupting Scepter but I don't think thats in Xth either.
I have 1 rack in my possesion do you guys think its enough to put it in the deck?
was thinking if im losing late game against control becuse of Megrim getting countered or whatever and draw from Magus or Consideration it would be awsome cuz most likely there at no hand
O How Much Land did you think this deck should Run?

I've been using 2 Rack's and have found that it's a nice number.
Landwise, I like 24 land in most of my decks. This, being fairly land-hungry, is no exception.
I also like it in the super early game, or under the cover of some other spell that control taps out to stop. I have discovered though that decks with better disruption tend to beat this one (I've been testing against extreme decks, such as the all discard Rack deck, or the all mono-green hyperfast beats deck, or the 16 counterspell deck). Something with lots of discard and/or counterspells hurts PGN badly, but if you play smart and have a strong hand, you can fight through nearly anything.
One card I gave some though to was Pact of Negation (for the Jar hand) as Megrim protection. It strikes me that you won't get another turn after you Magus of the Jar, since you should win that turn, or on their upkeep (Rack damage), and so Pact of Negation might be a nice twist. Thoughts?
In my origanal build i had pact of Negation as a 2 of and tolaria west to get it so i could cover Magus of the jars back end, and it performed pretty good exept i didn't like that upkeep cost.
I agree as a 1 or 2 of could prove useful with tolaria west to transmute it up
but what would you Replace?
If i had no megrim on the board hoping to draw 1 with magus i couldn't play it till next turn when i had no pact upkeep. leaving me & magus valnurable again.
But i see what you mean would be nice In "the Jar hand"
So i took out the pacts and Delay(which are way better then remand btw)
for more important cards for the aggro match-up whitch is the hardest one next to Black Rack its Arch Nemisis!!!
yes Rack is hard to beat its mostly on the luck on the draw but Having 2 racks against them would be golden to win this match up. So In they go
I have some Ideas i will test 2 racks & 2 Pacts & 2 more lands
i like to cover My decks Weak spots (where its dragin back fat)
then to stengthin Its Storng Points (its already got that down)
i think thats how one could defeat the Meta (aka All Comers)
So Any highlights from those matches?

I'm honestly thinking of taking this to a few tourneys, and seeing what comes of it. I think a Regionals wouldn't be impossible for this deck to take, seeing as it's good, solid, and has game against a lot of decks.
However, it comes to mind that I do not know if Megrim is back in 10th edition... I think so, but would like to be sure before I sign off on this deck getting off the ground.
Also, as for the Competitive forum, yah, this has to be shown to win tourneys before it makes it in there.
Is there no chance for me to get this baby into a Pro Tourney before Ravnica Rotates out? Can someone find this out for me? I live in California
all i see is a Japan tourney
Does FNM do Decklist Registery? was thinking about going today and I've never been

Suspending Spells Early Like Mindstab or Nihilith
then throwing out a Megrim
while having Perplex & Dismal for back up
all while Letting The Rack do its thing
(making them keep cards in hand for me to discard mwahahaaa)
its near Perfection
i can feel the Darkness becoming overwhelming

Looks great. It's pretty much what I've been running, though I still shuffle the Nihilith's off to the board most games. Still, it looks really good.
If I have the chance to hit up a regionals or something, I will be sure to do so with this deck.
he Bloody i know how you think Nihilith's could be replaced with more control
so try 2 Nekratals and a Tombstalker
Nekratals can kill alotta things without dying Groundbreaker & Giant Solifuge mostly
and we run so much bounce could get multiple uses of its CiP kill
and its a target for clutch transmutation
Tombstalker could cost 2 replacing the Nihiliths general cost, but mostly a back up finisher in case things are looking grim

the funny thing about this deck is no matter how the meta just shifted, my deck is still on top of it all.
I accually run 2 decks both Black & Blue, One caring soley on what the opponent is doing (Teferi Teachings) and the other caring nothing for what the opponent is doing (PGN), i tell you this PGN beats Teferi most days of the week

I've thought about decks like these before (Magus of the Jar+Megrim), and always thought of Underworld Dreams. Have you considered that card?
Also, have you thought about Magus of the Future? He's a fun guy to help you find your key cards faster.
Last note, why the Nihilith? It's not really needed here, though it is a nice trick.
Radha, Heir to Keld, Vorel of the Hull Clade, Kemba, Kha Regent, Vela the Night-Clad, Kozilek, Butcher of Truth, Barrin, Master Wizard, Slobad, Goblin Tinkerer, Patron of the Orochi, Oloro, Ageless Ascetic, Thraximundar, Roon of the Hidden Realm, Prossh, Skyraider of Kher, Marath, Will of the Wild, Teneb, the Harvester
If you did this, tell me and I'll credit you!
And Besides Magus of the Jar can find my megrim
and i can't believe you don't think nihilith is good your crazy just try the deck
if you don't get megrim Nihilith can win you the game

I love Nihilith, but I don't think it has a home here, since there are just better, more synergistic cards you could be running.

3 Magus of the Jar
Disruption
4 Perplex
4 Dismal Failure
3 Snapback
3 Clutch of the Undercity
3 Vesner's Diffusion
3 Mindstab
1 Wishful Thinking
1 Nightmare Void
Kill
3 Soul Spike
3 Sudden Death
2 Damnation
3 Megrim
2 Carful Consideration
Land
4 Island
4 Swamps
3 River of Tears
3 Watery Grave
2 Underground River
2 Dreadship Reef
2 Dimir Aquaduct
1 Urza's Factory
1 Urborg Tomb of Yawgmoth
4 Nihilith
3 cards (not sure what yet)
3 Extipate
3 Trickbind
2 Persecute
The only notes I'll make here are that I always was wanting for some way to stop that burn spell, or to save that Megrim, or whatever. I tried to address that, while keeping your theme going, and playing to the deck's strengths (hence Perplex, since it goes to get both Megrim and Wishful Thinking).
My final note is that I do really enjoy the deck, and think you've got a great deck here. It just needs some polishing up before it goes out and wins Nats!

you got three slots open in the side trust me put Grave Peril there. they will be for the aggro match up, they can kill anything they throw out next be it a magus of the moon to a Giant Solifuge. think of Grave Peril as a preemptive TERROR that does care for Targeting or protection
And Nihilith is bigger than most of gruuls creatures and only dies to a char which is good cuz it wont be aimed at your face
And you list looks awsome too wiill test it soon

you know after pulling one out of a fat pack i was thinking of the same thing cuz really this deck doesn't do nothing with its grave thus being able to delve it all exept Nightmare Void
i was gonna test it first befor stating anything though
O and BloodyDoves how did your deck list perform, Solid?
Side out bounce for Grave Perils against Gruul and throw in those Nihiliths too
it should beable to win, buts its stilll its hardest match
Pongify was the because you could potencially destroy any creature for 1 Blue mostly that Korlash and Bogarden Hellkite
then bounce the token
o and i haven't really tested the Grim Harvest was just a good idea to re-use Magus or get it back in case I mill it to Void or it runs into any trouble.

I see what you mean by you like more defense
i like the ideas and messed around with it allittle more and came up with this
3 Nihilith
3 Magus of the Jar
1 Tombstalker
Disruption
3 mindstab
3 perplex
3 Dismal Failure
3 wistful thinking
1 Nightmare Void
3 Snap Back
3 Vesner's Diffusion
3 CLutch of the Undercity
other spells
3 Sudden Death
3 Soul Spike
3 Megrim
2 Careful Consideration
1 Phyrexian Totem
overall improved matchups game 1 post side board
which is really good
damnation wasn't that good when you could bounce and discard using the combo.

I told you guys it was Meta Crushing

I do really like the deck. It's fun and simple to run.

O How Much Land did you think this deck should Run?
currently using 22

Thoughts?

However, it comes to mind that I do not know if Megrim is back in 10th edition... I think so, but would like to be sure before I sign off on this deck getting off the ground.
Also, as for the Competitive forum, yah, this has to be shown to win tourneys before it makes it in there.

he Bloody i know how you think Nihilith's could be replaced with more control
so try 2 Nekratals and a Tombstalker
Nekratals can kill alotta things without dying Groundbreaker & Giant Solifuge mostly
and we run so much bounce could get multiple uses of its CiP kill
and its a target for clutch transmutation
Tombstalker could cost 2 replacing the Nihiliths general cost, but mostly a back up finisher in case things are looking grim

I accually run 2 decks both Black & Blue, One caring soley on what the opponent is doing (Teferi Teachings) and the other caring nothing for what the opponent is doing (PGN), i tell you this PGN beats Teferi most days of the week
