I'm excited to see how the PT meta shakes out compared to the SCG Invitational. Normally I'm not surprised when a pro comes up with a good deck that nobody else has, but with how powerful White is it feels like this meta is being strangled a bit. Hopefully they make something sweet.
I agree with you. This format really feels wide-open, and it will be neat to see what the pros come up with.
It also feels like there will be a higher quantity of distinguishable "top decks," unlike last standard season where you heard either Abzan, Rally, or some combination of 4 colors.
Seasons Past is spiking after being bought out. I heard word Finkel is playing it in a brew. Does anyone know more?
its not just him its half of team channel fireball running GB Control from what i understand. the other half is running GB mid range Nantuko husk aristocrats .... ChannelFireball loving some GB.
Wow at that Shouta Match. Mackyl missing that Kalitas Exile won him that game

Yea, those are MTG Bars. What can I say, I am a dork
So is the Aristorcrats deck with Cryolith Rites. It is able to poop out so many creatures that esssentially become mana dorks which allows for more reatures and then you sac them all to to Shade and kill with cuttthroat
LSV vs Dezani with two cuttthroats on the field, sac 5 creatures get Ormendahl on turn 5

So about 41.54% of the field is variations of White Humans and Bant Company. Those include Mono-W, U/W and W/G Humans and Bant Company and something called Bant Company/Humans. How different is G/W Humans from Mono-W?
Couple things. I believe we basically saw decks alot of brewers have already pieced together but these have been formatted to beat bant and humans.
The G/B Aristo deck is not on the same level as rally before it. It's goal is the same tho. Muck up the ground and buy time to combo off by saccing to ormendal, or sacing for zulaport, or just to make husk really big.
Without rally, it's much , more vulnerable to sweepers. So yes, it's a great deck but I wouldn't climb aboard the buyout hype train.
The G/R Ramp deck looks to be ramp with goggles added. Pretty cool, but def not unbeatable.
W/B and R/B Mid range should emerge to fight both the aristocrats and the human/bant decks, which will allow ramp to get better, allowing a re-influx of aggro and the cycle goes on.
I'll admit I was a bit worried about Bant Company and when I first saw it, G/B Aristo being tier 0 because it just seemed amazing but after further reflection, both are very beatable and don't seem to be anywhere near as oppressive as Rally or Abzan was before it.
To sum up: I love it. Not having a clear top deck is awesome. Brewers rejoice!
So many sweet Decks being played. The G/B aristocrats deck is a more explosive version of Rally (Because of Rites). The G/B Dark Past deck is classic rock which looks to disrupt and out card advantage you. The R/G Goggles deck looks to ramp but runs infinitely more removal and card draw and can fireball you for a crap ton of damage. Bant Company is well bant company. The Mardu Control deck looks sweet. The Atarka Jund list Kibler is running is pretty sweet.
So many fun decks and not a stale format at all.
The big thing to gather is more than ever in Standard CARD ADVANTAGE is super important. Everyone of the top decks has ways to gain card advantage. The G/B aristocrats deck has Visionary, Recruiter, and Collected Company. The GB Dark Past deck has a tutor and gy recursion engine. The RG Goggles deck uses Tormenting voice and magmatic insight. Esper Dragon uses Painful Truths. Bant Company uses Recruiter, Collected Company and Tracker. Planeswalkers are everywhere. To me, that makes the format so much more fun, because my favorite thing to do next to accelerating mana is drawing cards. This meta is all about drawing cards.

Depends on the pilot. Some just splash Green for Tireless Tracker and Clip Wings in the board, some add Dromoka's Command or Sigarda and some go all the way with Duskwatch Recruiter.

why is everyone overlooking G/B control? Finkel is 7-1 with his only loss to Mana flood game 1 mana screw game 2 in a matchup that with maindeck kolitas should be like 70-30 in favor of him..... That GB control deck can wipe WW can go long vs Bant and can sweep to exile vs GB husk.. it may be the strongest deck of the tourney yet no one is talking about it.

I totally agree. I'm trying to figure out what cards he's playing that we don't know about, does anyone have a more exact idea of the list than what MTGGoldfish has posted as a guess? I'm really intrigued because this deck looks like the real deal

Per usual, they'll be doing rebroadcasts when coverage goes down for the day.

The draft portion has a definite effect on conversion rates, but they are still interesting to review.
